Become a master of thefts

The move Thief:
I´ll just say the basics. For more information about this move check this: http://bulbapedia.bu...ki/Thief_(move).
Thief inflicts damage and steals the target's held item if it is holding any. If the target is not holding an item or the user is already holding an item, Thief only inflicts damage and will not be able to steal an item.
TM for Thief, to be exact TM46 it is only obtainable in Mt.Moon (Go down through the second stairs. In that room go down the stairs again. There u will see one Team Rocket Grunt. Defeat him and head toward the only item on floor. That is TM46).

The move Covet:
Again only the basics. For more information about this move check this: http://bulbapedia.bu....net/wiki/Covet .
Covet inflicts damage and steals the target's hold item if it is holding any. If the target is not holding an item or the user is already holding an item, Covet only inflicts damage and will not be able to steal an item.

Thief and Covet changes from update 14/10/2013:

  • (PvE) THIEF/COVET will now have a chance to break the item if the caster of THIEF/COVET and wild encounters' level difference is too high:
    • <=5: 100% chance to successfully grab item
    • 6: 85% chance to successfully grab item
    • 7: 60% chance to successfully grab item
    • 8: 45% chance to successfully grab item
    • 9: 30% chance to successfully grab item
    • >=10: 20% chance to successfully grab item

Which means it got nerfed a little. To get it simple, if difference of your Pokemon and wild Pokemon less or is less or equall of 5 levels  it will steal item without miss (Example: you try to use thief with Meowth lvl 20 on lvl 20 Shuckle u will get item 100%). But if difference is more then 5 level your chances of getting item are smaller (Example: you try to use thief with Meowth lvl 100 on lvl 20 Shuckle and you wont get item for sure, only 20% of time).

Though its not all bad. You will get notification if wild pokemon is holding item and you were unable to steal it due to level difference.

Differences between Thief and Covet:

Thief

  • Dark type move
  • TM46
  • 60 base power
  • 25 PP (30 PP after one PP UP, 35PP after two PP UPs and 40 PP after three PP UPs or one PP Max)
  • Physical move
  • 100% Accuarcy
  • affect all Pokemon
  • 155 Pokemon can learn it by TM in this state of game
  • 3 Pokemon can learn it naturally in this state of game
  • 1 Pokemon can learn it by its pre-evolve in this state of game

Covet

  • Normal type move
  • no TM
  • 40 base power
  • 25 PP (30 PP after one PP UP, 35PP after two PP UPs and 40 PP after three PP UPs or one PP Max)
  • Physical move
  • 100% Accuarcy
  • do not affect Ghost Pokemon
  • 7 Pokemon can learn it naturally in this state of game
  • 1 Pokemon can learn it by its pre-evolve in this state of game
  • 59 Pokemon can learn it by breeding

So its your own choice which move u will choose.

As of 19/08/2014 update Thief got buff from 40 base power to 60 base power and increased PP from 10 to 25. Covet got decreased PP from 40 to 25.

NPC trainer´s Pokemon held items:

As of 14/10/2013 there are NO more NPC trainer´s Pokemon hold items.

FAQS AND ANSWERS:
I used the move but i did not get item, why?
-Probably because your Pokemon is holding item or wild Pokemon was not holding any item, or your thieving Pokemon was higher level then wild Pokemon.

Which Pokemon should i teach move too?
-Currently there is no difference in which Pokemon have thief.

How many times I must attack Pokemon to get item from it?
-If wild Pokemon holds item and your Pokemon don´t have held item and difference between your Pokemon and wild Pokemon is 5 levels, you only need to attack once to get it. But if difference is higher then 6 lvls, you might attack few times. If that is the case u will get message that tells you were unable to steal item due to level difference. Then attack few times more and you will get it.

Does it notify me if i stole item from Pokemon?
-Yes u got message on your battle screen or just check your Pokemon stats by right clicking them.

You should add the trainer's pokemon that you can steal from as well. I'm not sure which, but I think on 1 island there's a black belt trainer where you can thief black belts off repeatedly with vs seeker. And of course, the cool trainer with the chansey in victory road. A great idea though =]

Oops lol. The chansey has a 5% chance to hold a lucky egg =3

Really? I think we just found our next suicide farming NPC

EDIT: Maybe that explains all the ridicolous new trade threads where they offer tons of lucky eggs. Welp, maybe the staff should change that NPC, because that takes away all the value of the lucky egg completely.

Dont know if true is that trainer is holding egg. Can someone else confirm this??

Anyone know if they reduced the rate of kings rock in wild poliwhirls and metal coat in magnemites?

Cause I fight vs +50 of each and still nothing and in the other hand, i obtain 2 twistedspoon with only 10 abras...

Luck and Chance, there's all there is to it.
