What program should I use to create mods?

Hi all. some time ago I want to create mods for the game, however I do not know what programs to use. I was looking for the whole forum and I did not find information about it, if someone could help me, I would appreciate it, thank you very much.

...so what kind of mods? There's sprites, follower sprites (for pixel art, GIMP, Photoshop and MS Paint would be the best, for normal art: photoshop/illustrator/inkscape), music mods (idk, whatever you're more comfortable with in terms of composition), GUIs (I have no idea how to make these), so it depends. After you make things it's just a matter of implementing them, so formatting and naming. @DemonicDax @Staggiie what did you guys use for your stuf?
