about ferrothorns

i was gonna buy a 4V ferrothorn from the market and i want it to be perfect.

I searched through the internet for the ideal skills that it needs 

On some websites it said it was best to use curse but in the market there were only ferrothorns that used protect. Is there a reason to this?

There are different sets for every pokemon, if you see one that you like it and is not on GTL for sale you can request breeding services or make one with the movesets you like.

Thanks for the tip, but i was just wondering if I were to get one with protect, how does it really work (I'm relatively new to pokemon)

Protect allows you to scout for things that use surprise fire moves and check for Choice item locked moves, if you're carrying leftovers or your opponent is Leech Seeded it also grants you an extra turn of recovery.
