Whenever there's a giant period of nothing, no event or anything, it gets kind of boring. You can only grind so much to where you get bored and log off, especially when you beat the storylines.
My thought is that there should be little daily/weekly missions that have you do something.
Ex: "Catch 10 Pokemon with Repeat Ball" "Evolve 3 Pokemon via friendship" "Catch 5 Pokemon at Abundant Shrine" "Hatch 10 Eggs"
And once you complete these missions, you can get a reward depending on difficulty, such as berries, evolution stones, or fossils. Or maybe if you do one daily mission every day for 7 days, you can get a bigger reward, such as a valuable that you can sell for good profit at the PokeMart(It could be untradeable as to not manipulate GTL).
This would compel players to keep on the game instead of logging out due to boredom.
