Only one Server in the Game???

Is there more than one Server in the game? I'm playing for 3 weeks and I have 3 ensigns. My friend started playing yesterday and has no ensigns yet but he is also playing in the Kanto region. I tried to find him now in Viridian but I can not see his character and he can not see me either. Are we on different servers? Is it a game bug? Help me

The game does not have different servers, but we do have different channels. If you want to see your friend you both must be in the same channel as each other. 

 

You can see which channel you are in by looking at the top left of your screen: 

 

 

If you want to switch your channel, click the Community button in the bottom right and select "Change Channel"
