Co-op Battling in the Future?

Ok, so I don't know how possible this might be, but what if there was a system that allowed for co-op battles? My idea for it would be that anyone within your group would be able to assist you in battles. This would happen when a group member enters a battle with an NPC. This would then prompt any group members in the same route/area to join in on the battle (would only allow for 1 other member to assist at a time). If the initiator of the battle accepts their help, then each of the two battlers would select 3 Pokemon to fight with, and the battle would then become a double battle with each battler controlling their own Pokemon. I think this idea would make the entire experience more dynamic and would allow for people to do co-op runs of the game in a more involved fashion. I'm curious of the possibility of this idea and what people think of it.

Not to mention the amount of work to go back and rework NPCs AGAIN just so they have code for co-op battles.

Hmm, then what if you could only get help from people who have the same amount of badges overall as you? I definitely see the point on time required to adjust NPCs, was just curious on the possibility of the idea and the feasibility of its implementation.

and what if you can battle only the gym leaders this way and only after beating for the second time the elite four?

or maybe you could have a co-op battle only vs other players and not NPCs
