MrMasonMan
I'm making this guide because I see far too many people posting things like they have flawless speed, when in fact it only says 30-31 on the stat as well as people not properly knowing their IVs, which is important to know for things such as not wasting EVs, doing damage/speed calculations and knowing your Hidden Power type and base damage (not implemented yet, but it's a very important move and would definitely make some pokemon more desirable if they had a good hidden power, like Gyarados with Flying or Machamp with Ghost for example). So we're going to accurately determine our IVs. Given a level 5, it's actually possible to exactly know all of your IVs around the level 15-20. The first thing you want to do, is stop using Psypokes' IV calculator. Although it looks pretty, it isn't expanded enough to give you your exact IVs and I've seen cases where people have level 100s, but didn't know their exact IVs because of the way negative natures take 10% off. You want to find a calculator where you can input multiple levels, so I highly recommend MetalKid's IV calculator: http://metalkid.info...ulators/IV.aspx I will go step by step with this level 20 Calm dratini of mine. First input all the details into the calculator. You will need the Pokemon name and nature. Then in the table, you will want to input all the stats the pokemon has (level, hp, attack, etc; as well as any EVs the pokemon may have. Note that this pokemon is fresh so it has no EVs yet). The results should be identical to what Psypoke's would have given you. But now, what we can do is level up the Dratini (I'm just going to EV train it and then input the stats it has every time it levels up, updating the EVs each level as well) and it will narrow it down every level because different levels give different ranges (just the way how non level 100 IVs are with all the scaling and boosts dependent on natures). Obviously if one level shows 0-4 and the stats of the next level show 3-5, you now know the IV is either 3 or 4. So now I’ll just show pictures of each level being inputted into the calculator as I level up my dratini. Level 21 (note, I’m going for a 252 HP/252 SDef/6 Speed variant and I juiced it up on vitamins to make EV training faster): Level 22: Level 23: Level 25 (see how it shows the next level for more accuracy is level 25, so we don’t need to input in the level 24 stats unless we manage to get the exact IVs on SDef before levelling up, in this case we didn’t get the 152 so inputting in level 24 doesn’t help us): Level 26: Right now we can see we’re not going to get Special Attack done before level 30 (since I’m training this for the level 30 NFE tournament) so I’m going to do a little trick. Evolving it at level 30 may have given me the full IVs though. The trick I’m doing is just giving it a few SAtk EVs via Calcium and inputting the stats again. I tried 30 EVs and luckily it gave me an exact answer. I then cleared the EVs afterwards as to not stuff up my EV training. And now we are done. It only took 6 levels and I now know my Dratini’s full IVs. Unfortunately the Hidden Power sucks (HP Flying 36) but at least we know what it is. Now taking a look at just inputting this level into the Psypokes IV calculator we can see what the range would have been if we didn’t check each level: I hope this guide helps everyone in properly evaluating their IVs and will be a lot more important in the future when hidden power gets implemented. Atuan
A pretty helpful guide. I still use Psypoke's because of Metalkid's terrible color scheme. The same goes for Serebii's. Really, you're just taking the IV range at each level and narrowing it down. For example, at 20 your attack is 20-28 and at 21 it's 28-31,meaning it is definitely 28. Metalkid's calc does it for you, which is nice, but my eyes can't take that black and white on forest green. Shiny 1 Link to comment
Zoubek
Nice and helpful guide. Iam using Veekun though. It has better design imo, easy to use + you can input more levels. Link to comment

teeko
Let me first say, great guide! I still use Psypoke's because of Metalkid's terrible color scheme. You are able to change the color scheme from the default green To: There're also options for gray and purple with more to come. Link to comment
