New players looking for info.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so me and 2 mates have decided to start playing, mainly for casual reasons In between our normal games. We have all played Pokemon during our childhood but don't remember to much about it at all. We have also noticed small things such as beating surge no longer rewards Thunderbolt. So obviously this mmo version can't be played through using standard poke red walkthroughs and tactics (oh yeah forgot to say we all play kanto)

So basically we are looking for up to date tips/tricks and goals to reach in the game (as we have also noticed that a lot of info here is out of date) hence this post lol.

What Pokemon are best to aim for and what moves should be taken for them ect.. (that kind of info)

Please Halp lol

you can play using normal stuff, is just a bit harder. Any pokemon gets the job done, even spindas apparently,  @XelaKebert

So vanilla poke red setups will still work but it will just be harder to achieve things? For example, thunderbolt is one of the strongest electric attacks but is no longer acquired after the victory against surge, but I assume you can acquire it further into the game?

The only kanto walkthrough I found on this site mentions thunderbolt as a reward, so it's out of date and can't be followed properly. It also mentions TMs in the world that are not actually there.

You can buy it in Kanto and Unova, idk about hoenn, and you can also buy it through GTL.

rewards were nerfed to prevent alt running, which was pretty much the best money making method for a good while.

PokeMMO uses most of gen VI mechanics, so stuff that didn't exist in firered will be different. The physical/special split might be the most relevant fact story-wise.

As for pokemon you can pretty much build any team you like and have fun. Just dont focus on a single OP mon or it will cost you in the long run.

Once you are done with Kanto and want to move onto other regions you will find out that you can't use your Kanto team. Keep that in mind as well.

You can get thunderbolt TM (and others) from the Vermilion poke mart, same way with all other cities and their corresponding gyms (Earthquake in Viridian City, for example).

There are a few guides in the Guide Tavern you will find useful (Kanto walkthrough is in Work In Progress Guides but still should help a lot.)

You can really use any pokemon you want, but you might find something in Guide Tavern to help you build a well rounded team. (sweepers, tanks, walls, etc)

Good luck!

Yeah that makes sense. I fully understand the IV system and i am getting to grips with HV. I just got to get used to making money in the game so i can use the abilities i want to use on my pokemon. What is the best way of doing that currently?

I understand tanks. But sweepers? Walls? lol. Using my tiny brain, i take it sweepers are the highest damage pokemon just to blitz battles? Like a starmie/gastly/gengar?

There are not many if you are stil doing storyline unfortunately. Even for post gamers its hard.

The easier is to remach gym leaders every 18h. Which is a chore and you need to complete the story first.

In your case the best might be to sell any items you don't need. To catch pokemon with good IV and sell them. And use amulet coin for every battle.

Yep. High damage, good coverage, fast, some can set up (ex: Swords dance) to do more damage or gain more defense.
Walls cant do much damage on their own but can take a lot of hits, and heal health or status, sometimes on other members of their team (moves like wish and heal bell). An example of this would be Chansey. They basically slow an enemy's momentum and force them to switch. They are really only used in PvP where they are no fun to face, and you would probably be better off picking something with a little higher damage output for your story team.

Ahh right i see! That makes sense. I am interested in fully completing the Kanto storyline for sure and then i will probably dive into the other regions as i have no experience with them but i enjoy the games. So i will work on progressing the story first and then worry about making money. Downside to this is i really wanted a Kadabra but you cannot level Abra up and learn new moves, everything comes from a TM and i i cannot afford them then i cant really use Kadabra properly but thats not a big deal.

That makes sense! I can imagine them being pretty annoying to go against tbh haha. I do intend to jump into the competitive side with my friends eventually, just something extra that the original games didnt really have and that is when i will actually worry about min/maxing lol.

We have also noticed small things such as beating surge no longer rewards Thunderbolt

surge gym 3 never gave thunderbolt in firered gen 3.That item was given in fire gen 1 gym 3 surge.

You can get thunderbolt at 32500 in (mistralton city pokecenter) or 35000 in celadon casino.

You can also get thunderbolt in story in hoenn after 5 badges and helping 3rd gym leader in mauville city.

And can get thunderbolt in unova story at p2 laboratory also.

You can check my kanto and unova full walkthrough with all the items and hidden items available for story.

Is this walkthrough up to date with everything that has been changed in pokeMMO recently? I ask because one i was following previously was directing me to TMs and items that were no longer there.

yes that guide is up to date since last update.Alot of items were changed. For example there was a hidden maxeither in vermilion city and it was changed to a superpotion.

There is also pictures if u click on the hidden item in the walkthough.

Also, quick question to anyone really. I have noticed that there are mods for the game. I have downloaded a theme and sound pack but i was wondering if there was a mod that rates pokemon based on IV? So its faster to see if its good or bad?

As of right now we don't have any mods like this - almost all of them are purely visual.

I am interested in seeing how you get on with your playthrough, have fun!
