[MOD] HGSS and ORAS Music

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Here's a mod that makes ingame music tolerable.

Newest update introduced mod support for .wav, .mp3, .ogg and all that.

Meaning we aren't restricted to mindless, nonsensical, and laggy, out-of-sync midi files. Just put a normal music file in there.

That said, I decided to replace the laggy MIDI files with just regular .mp3 formats of the same songs. Except from the NDS titles, to bring the sound quality up to par with gen5's soundtrack!

Pack 1 : Kanto Music mod -- Replaces Fire Red OST with HGSS OST

https://www.mediafire.com/file/0h3p9xi2no2tomp/Kanto Music Mod 1.1.zip

Pack 2: Hoenn Music mod -- Replaces Emerald OST with ORAS OST

https://www.mediafire.com/file/7aqbe9nxjnlkoxv/Hoenn Music Mod 1.1.zip

Update 11/28:

-Globally reduced volume across all tracks

-Added missing track 386 (Meteor Falls / Cave of Origin)

Instructions:

-Download each .zip

-Don't extract them.

-Open pokemmo folder, go into 'data' and then into 'mods'.

-drop them there.

-launch pokemmo, go to 'mod management' and checkmark them!

Notes:

-!Warning! Volume is a lot louder than the in-game soundtrack. So if you leave unova to go to hoenn for example, be prepared to reduce your ingame volume.

-Looping doesn't work properly yet. The song will end in a fade out, and restart like maybe 2 seconds later. Not very disruptive.

-A couple areas in fire red and emerald don't exist anymore in hgss and oras, and don't have a corresponding track. (silph co, lavender tower, battle frontier), so i just put something i deemed fitting.

-A few songs might be missing. If you hear any quiet, original tracks from fire red or emerald, please do post in here! Though I doubt you will really find any. Even minor OCD errors, plz report!

edit: special ty to gilan who helped me get started figuring this shit out

and to darkshade who nagged me so much about volume and bothered to show me how to normalize mp3

Would you mind if I took the sound files for this and attempted to make everything loop? Editing loop data doesn't seem too hard.

It's not that it's difficult, it's that libGDX doesn't seem to support it yet for non-MIDI files.

You're free to mess around though.

its possible to do this but with Gen5?

because I want to try something if its possible :3

You want to mod unova? On paper, it should be possible, but I haven't really tried.

Isnt this mod, you know.... copyrighted?  Shouldnt we not allow this to be listed on the forums because were basically distributing copyrighted content?  Just saiyan.

Great mod :) really enjoying it. Although i have to say it's a little jarring when you enter a new area and the music just cuts out. Other than that great work thanks for making it.

subtle fade-ins/outs would be great, agreed.

that & looping is all this needs to be near flawless, my first impressions.

This will gonna be updated to the new audio system?

Nah.

Afaik, they only changed the way the game reads GBA sounds.

So the unmodded track will sound less like garbage.

But this mod will work the same.

Not working for me :(

Mod is no longer working as of the latest patch with the 'new' audio system.

If they offer a 'legacy audio' option then we can use this again but otherwise I don't see it being updated :(

The new music system is...passable.  Wish we still had the 'legacy audio' system available for those who want to use a mod like this.

Or, ya know, be able to read music from HG/SS if we have those roms available instead of only supporting the GBA games.

I'll test later.

@Desu any idea why this broke?

Can I fix something in the mod or do I need to wait for an update?

Should still work as far as I know. Anything in particular happening, or is it just not applying?

The mod doesn't work.  No music at all when it is enabled.  It worked fine prior to the 27-Feb-2018 update (hotfix didn't change anything for allowing this mod to work).

I'm at work so I can't say for sure.

But 2 replies in the thread say it just stopped working after the update.

Probably the latter?

Can you post a console.log?

Both of the mods use .OGG files
Perhaps something was changed coding-wise that broke the supported OGG format or something?

If we could get details on what was changed audio-wise, we could re-encode the music files in the proper format so that they would work properly with the new system.

I'll post a console.log as soon as I can.  Lemme get one generated first.

EDIT:
I've put links to pastebin since I can't upload simple txt files for some reason.
So far nothing in either log file seems to indicate any problems/issues.  I'm guessing that the reason the music isn't loading with the new engine is some changes made to OGG format support in the new engine.  And yes I enabled 'verbose' output for loading mods.

I think I see it and it's silly.

If you change the bgm volume while it's playing does it work temporarily?

I did a quick test to make sure it wasn't the OGG format being bugged.

I extracted a single music file (Poke Center) and converted it to 16-bit PCM WAV file and tested it.

No sound in the PokeCenter and default unmodded sound (using the new engine) outside of the center.

Same result with the OGG file.  For whatever reason the music isn't playing when being used as an 'override' over the original audio.

Just tested changing BGM while it is playing and that doesn't fix the issue.  Still no sound the entire time.
