Popular Post DoubleJ
What is this? The end. Why? Because Coolio. So now what? Parade. Ok competitive PokeMMO fam and friends this is DoubleJ signing out, but before I do I've got a few things to say. First and foremost, thank you to everyone for trusting me to steer the PSL ship for two straight seasons. It's a privilege to say that I have had the opportunity to host the greatest event in PokeMMO not once but twice. I recognize that we've had our ups and our downs, but overall I think we did good. We saw a cumulative 120M+ in prizes, the fewest activity decisions to date, and arguably the most passionate managers yet. Heck, one convinced his team to attempt to blackmail me through a boycott just to get an extension to play for a tie. A tie! Another almost got thrown out of the PSL, turned himself into a PokeMMO villain, and annoyed the entire community week in and week out just because he wanted his team to win so bad. The PSL even astounded everyone when they made PokeMMO Doubles one of the most competitive tiers in the game by swapping to a BO3 format. Shout out to @fredrichnietze for being right all along. We hosted a ton of random events throughout both seasons and made the credits system a lucrative part of managing. There was a draft, there were free agents, and there was even VGC. Before we get all sappy, I guess we should announce our champions. So without further ado, congratulations to @DaftCoolio and the Human Caterpie for winning the PokeMMO Super League Season 7. Lord @Draekyn blessed you all with sigs worthy of champions. @Vorred it really happened this time fam. Manager: 6,000,000 yen Player: 3,736,820 yen Total: 47,117,026 yen So what do we do now? Well we plan the future. As I've said countless times, I'm stepping down as the PSL Host. I feel I've accomplished what I wanted to do, and I've also realized a few things along the way. I've been a part of every PSL season ever, and each and every season I saw the host getting pushed around and manipulated by cry-baby managers and players. When I signed up to do this, my goal was to make the rules more black-and-white, enforce those rules, and punish players for skipping out on their matches because at the end of the day we want matches and not uguues. Unfortunately, it really didn't work out the way I wanted it to. Scum will still scum and no matter how black and white the rules are, players will still uguu when the hammer drops on them. It's just how it is. Despite all that though, I still had a pretty good time and I hope you did too. So what do I do now? Well I leave with my recommendations and my thoughts: Auction > Draft The JJ Credits System works and managers seem to enjoy it BO3 Doubles is lit PSL needs LC OU, OU, UU, NU, LC, Doubles, Showdown, Showdown (8 tiers for PSL8 HYPE) Showcase the best players and make the scrubs work for a spot in the line-up, make PSL gr8 again! Continue to not give extensions unless it's the finals, players have 7 days to schedule a match and that's plenty of time. Substitutions need a rework and managers need to stop being uguues about their players, if they can't play, they can't play. Get rid of my silly rankings system that forces players with better records to play OU1 vs OU2, etc. Figure out how you want to do trades, my system was fairly complicated and outright annoying for me as the host. Try to ignore the trigger happy trolls, I failed time and time again. Pick a diverse group of managers and recognize those you likely won't be able to work with. Hosts and Managers need to be able to function together, not against one another. Be willing to kick someone out of the PSL for inappropriate behavior, this is your event, not theirs. That's about it for my recommendations. I'm sure the next host can figure it all out. I know of a small group of players that are already working diligently to make PSL8 an amazing event and I wish them the best. Before I go though, it's time for some special thank you's: @Munya you somehow became my obligatory staff workhorse these past two seasons and I've just gotta say it's been amazing to work with you. You were always there for me and even helped settle down some silliness behind the scenes. You took a lot of flack, but hey this is the PSL afterall. Good shit Mun Mun, it's been a pleasure. @KaynineXL you and Jovi basically bent me over at the start of this season when you randomly decided to leave LYLE and left me with zero LYLE managers this season and a team full of rejected applicants. Fortunately, we still came out all buddy buddy and I owe that to your professionalism. I recognize I'm likely not the most pleasant fellow to be around half the time but hey, you stuck through it all and even came home at the end of the day. Kudos bro. @EricTheGreat you took a lot of shit this season from players and other managers, but you continued to do it your way. You pulled bizarre trades, drafted randoms, and even took a gamble on midseason scum (Jice), and yet you still finished as Manager of the Season and a playoff contender. You even had two players win Best of Awards and that's pretty tight. Besides all that though, you showed me you were a true bro this season and were out here to compete. Respect. @DaftCoolio I was hesitant to pick you for manager last season, but you proved to me that you're not just a "snake in the grass" but a pretty chill guy as well. I had a lot of fun working with you each season and I hope you felt the same. Although all good things do come to an end, well unless you decide to join LYLE. Yes, you can bring Toast too. @OrangeManiac and @Gunthug you both were there to help guide me every week and even went above and beyond in Season 7 to be a part of the administrative department even though I'm sure both of you so desperately wanted to stay away from that. Thanks a ton for your work and for being easy on me. @Draekyn the highest paid sig maker in the game. Respeckk for your craft bro. Keep on keepin' on! @gbwead fuck off =) And with that, I'm done... feel free to voice your thoughts below and please, speak freely. I don't give a shit anymore. DoubleJ
I'd have to agree. At least wait for the World Cup to end before even starting the donation phase. We really don't know what the devs have up their sleeves for a timeline on any updates. Link to comment
Laz
Small suggestion, give the rights to managers to be able to put themselves in their roster, if they feel like to. I mean, after buying all the necessary players and making line ups, managers just get to chill and wait for their players to do the work, it would be cool in my opinion for managers to potentially play on their teams as well. -Pros: New style, a manager could reach another level and be more active, they can also be the #1 Sub option. -Cons: 1 lesser spot in the line up, which means a player will need to be benched if the manager decides to play, but I doubt managers would like to play every week though. Three duels last a long time and teambuilding 3 teams per week is a lot of work. The break between duels should also be more clear imo. 15 minutes ago, DoubleJ said: PSL needs LC Ya, it could be cool, but perhaps BO3 like Doubles. 15 minutes ago, DoubleJ said: OU, OU, UU, NU, LC, Doubles, Showdown, Showdown (8 tiers for PSL8 HYPE) Ya that sounds nice. 15 minutes ago, DoubleJ said: Continue to not give extensions unless it's the finals, players have 7 days to schedule a match and that's plenty of time. Fair enough I guess. 15 minutes ago, DoubleJ said: Substitutions need a rework and managers need to stop being uguues about their players, if they can't play, they can't play. Yes, we need some very strict substitution rules. 15 minutes ago, DoubleJ said: Get rid of my silly rankings system that forces players with better records to play OU1 vs OU2, etc. Well if we go back to 8 tiers. There would be only OU1 and OU2, so I don't know if it really matters. 15 minutes ago, DoubleJ said: Figure out how you want to do trades, my system was fairly complicated and outright annoying for me as the host. Your system is not complicated. I suggested how to simplify it at the beginning of the season, but you didn't listen... My suggestions: Trade submissions need to be reworked. When a manager submits a trade, he is locked on that trade until all other managers involved accept or refuse that trade officially. We need to know for how long the manager that submits is locked by default. I personally always tried to avoid being the one that submits a trade just because I fear being locked for an unknown amount of time. The midseason credits and the preseason credits do not have the same value whatsoever and should not be considered equal either when it comes to trades. The tiers selection should be done following the sign up phase and not before. Ideally, players should be able to sign up in whatever tier they want to compete imo. I think the round robin scoring should be changed somehow or at least this qualifying stage in the competition should not allow teams that are already qualified or disqualified to compete against teams that are still fighting for something. hmmm, maybe more later... Tranzmaster
A few pointers: - 8 tiers sound nice, but do note there will be a lot of players not be able to play then. I mean if you have 8 PSL teams that means that there are only 8 UU and 8 NU players for the entire PSL (okay there are subs and rotations, but still). I kinda liked the fact of almost everybody being able to play (except if ur bad like that Lamborghini model) - Regardless of when the update hits it would be nice to have Gen 5 Showdown OU included (or maybe a custom pseudo gen 5 Pokemmo OU without legendaries, but then you can't guarantee it being balanced) - LC sucks - The playoff system was really good. Keep it - Obligatory "gb for host" mention kappa 3 hours ago, Lazaro23 said: Small suggestion, give the rights to managers to be able to put themselves in their roster, if they feel like to. That's not a good idea IMO. First of all you create in inherent advantage for teams with managers who are good at comp. Isn't the purpose of the auction to create an environment of equal value distribution? Then why start off the PSL on an unequal footing.... Also it gives no drawback of signing up as a manager, you will get a ton of manager signups who will just half ass their job because they only signed up cos they guarantee their spot to play and it will be pretty hard for the host to discern which manager signup is the most legit. LifeStyle
My thoughts on how season 8 should look like: - Life 4 Manager. - Add LC Bo3. - Remove Bo3 for Doubles, boring af to watch 3 long matches (Doubles =\= VGC). - Keep OU3, I want to make Hotarubae start from the bottom so she can become OU1 in Finals and beat Frags, receiving Breakout Player Award in the process. - Like my shop. - The Draft idea wasn't that bad at all, I say keep it but instead of randomly awarding the draft picks, give those as prizes for the Manager Tournament (Making it an incentive for managers to actually show up and play it). - Cut down Showdown tiers to only 1 (DPP OU), I feel like that's the only tier where MMO players actually invest their time learning and playing, even when PSL is on a break. - Keep 10 tiers, let the shit managers draft shit players and the good managers will teach how to make a squad. Tiers imo should be 3 OU, 2 UU, 2 NU, Doubles, LC, DPP OU. - BaenineXL 4 host, Orange would work too but I think he'll be busy, Gunt comeback??? - Bring back Salty Suite. Thank you for reading or if you just scrolled without caring, smd smh. Edited April 10, 2017 by LifeStyle dsteel23, Suneet, Gunthug and 3 others 6 Link to comment
