Random Horde Swarms

sherdoonach

Question

I suggest that random hordes are implemented everyday. Ie the television tells you what pokemon are now appearing in hordes. Make it RNG based so some days pidgeys are appearing in hordes and no one gives a shit while other days charmanders are in hordes and everyone freaks out. I am making this suggestion due to the limited amount of pokemon that are in hordes currently leaving shiny hunters with not many options. This will also help to spawn some rare shinies a few days a year giving a boost to the trading scene currently and giving people something to look forward to in game and giving people a reason to hunt more in the PVE sense. The rarity of spawns can differ among certain pokemon as long as it gives a slightly increased chance of encountering the pokemon versus regular single encounter chances.

pros:

new content

more opportunities for shiny/comp farming

as it is rng based not too many ultra rare shinies will be found while people will feel that they still have a chance of encountering a shiny they desire

gives reason for people to play everyday

cons:

Possibly devalues certain shinies over a long period of time

hard to implement?

Please leave your thoughts and suggestions about my suggestion below.

Yeah, and non shiny versions of those species.

Particularly those listed as 'rare' within the 'dex.

RNG is RNG, it can go in your favour or against it - but putting entire spawn tables in the hands of RNG probably isn't a good idea.

they are still 'rare' it changes nothing if they appear sometimes somewhere ?

its actually a very nice idea

That's dependant on how often that 'sometimes' is, which in this case is being put in the hands of RNG.

It's also dependant on the amount of species in each rarity category, etc. - this means they'll be likely to be picked more/less often statistically.

I dont think many people will catch the non shiny versions though, given that they have limited time to try find a shiny version of that specific pokemon taking a few minutes per battle doesnt really help.

I do agree that maybe RNG shouldnt be the deciding factor in what spawns unless it was done in like a tier based system. Some pokemon are tier one - rare - and the chances of a tier one horde spawning for the day is far lower than tier 2, 3 and 4 for example. Still gives an occasional opportunity to hunt rares in hordes without being too detrimental to the economy. In addition, if we look at charmander for example, if it is in a horde for 1 day a year, given the rarity of tier 1 hordes, its value wont fluctuate too much, even if people do decide to catch them. Thoughts?
