[PSL 7] HYPE Thread

Recommended Posts

Tiers we should have:

MMO OU1

MMO OU2

MMO UU1

MMO UU2

MMO NU1

MMO NU2

MMO DOUBLES

MMO LC

DPP OU

ORAS OU / SUMO OU

We are playing PokeMMO after all so it makes no sense not supporting every tier we have in the game. Even Smogon Premier League (SPL) has LC as one of the tiers.

Anyways, I say we see how many signups we get for LC and then we can tell whether it should or should not be a tier for this season.

Personally between ORAS and SUMO I'd pick ORAS, it's a finished product when SUMO is still being "polished".

As much as I would love to see VGC as one of tiers, because VGC17 is actually very competitive and playable, that much I doubt there would be enough players who would sign up for it or players who would be willing to learn it- it isn't a simple tier by any means and it's also under development.

nah dood, its super eaz

-2 UU slots is good, there is a lot of competition in UU too.

-2 NU slots might be too much. I think that NU2 last season was often pretty poor. What are your feelings about that ?

Im pretty sure that there are more NU players than UU players, were the psl matchs that bad?

Tiers:

OU1

OU2

OU3

UU1

UU2

NU1

NU2

Doubles (best tier)

DPP OU

VGC/Pokebank

Gauge the interest of LC and OU3, if the OU interest and sign ups are still there then keep the tier but if there are numerous sign ups for LC then remove an OU. Even though there were three spots for OU most OU3 matches were quality.  The last showdown tier should be something current, it shows adaptability and knowledge among the ever expanding Pokémon world.

SPL didn't have LC up until 6 or something afaik. SPL 1-4 didn't have LC, maybe even 5, and that's where BW2 was the latest metagame, and XY later on. So yeah, LC, by gen5, still wasn't included in it, so we really shouldn't just blindly follow a similar yet different competition and copy every aspect of it. That's one point.

Another point is, (and this is completely me saying how I feel about the tier, so this holds much less water than my statement above), is that LC still isn't been around long enough to really stick as one of the tiers this PSL. Could be wrong, but that's just what I think.

Ties are the best. Quit hating on the end of season suspense that ties bring us all.

no u

In all fairness though, I really don't get why we have an even amount of tiers, it's pretty dumb. The only thing that you really say to defend this point is that it benefits your credits system, however, people enjoy watching a close 6-5 victory for one team rather than a relatively boring 5-5 draw.

I don't mind ties.

Victories are worth more when you know you have a 2 point lead at least (6-4) as opposed to people who have put in basically the same effort and the difference between a total loss or 3 point victory is a missed rockslide in one game

Ties are the standard unless one team completely overwhelms the other. Victories feel more "deserved".

Ties will continue to be a thing for this season and for future seasons (hopefully). While it is nice to declare a definite winner week in and week out, you have to take a step back and think about the standings as we progress through a short season. If we didn't have ties, we would likely see a huge gap in the standings making it more likely that we know the playoff seeding early on in a season. This could potentially cause two problems, one being lack of interest from losing teams and their players and also a lack of effort at the end of the regular season. If you know your seed, why would you continue to put in effort? With ties, records will be much closer and teams can continue fighting for playoff spots.

Also, get gud and just don't tie you plebs.

Good point, guess we don't need to see another team like Riga trading off their players and fucking up PSL

Well that won't be a thing this season, and again, while it wasn't favored, it really didn't affect the PSL at all. The team that won the PSL didn't benefit from trades at all and most of the trades that did happen were pretty fair imo anyway.
