[OU Discussion] Snorlax [Test banned]

Recommended Posts

Snorlax is test banned to verify whether or not its presence in OU has an unhealthy impact on the metagame:

  • The TC expects that, by removing Snorlax from OU, the tier will open up as we will see more diversity than before. The TC wants a creative OU environment where the meta evolves and where players are not restricted to play generic cores.
  • The TC expects to see a more evenly spread usage table where we see less pokemon with 25%+ usage and more pokemon with 15%+ usage.
  • The TC expects to see less uncompetitive strategies.
  • The TC expects that, if Chansey’s usage sky rockets, players will be able to handle this blob in a swiftly fashion.
  • The TC expects that an increase in cleric’s viability will not automatically make offense and balance play styles any less viable.

Snorlax is quite centralising to a problematic extant; OU players bring several checks to handle Snorlax and sometimes this is still not enough. The momentum loss from a Body Slam paralysis proc is usually irrecoverable - especially since Snorlax punishes severely the use of Clerics. CurseLax' sweeping potential requires very specific answers that Snorlax can surprise with its versatile moveset possibilities. Pursuit Lax is a nightmare for a most special attackers in OU. It is very evident that playing Snorlax increases a player's win condition considerably - and arguably to a very unhealthy point where there is hardly any winning scenario for a Laxless team facing a Snorlax.

The test ban will take one month. After this month, depending on the meta adjustements, the Tier Council will decide whether or not Snorlax remains banned or not.

The TC - as well as many of you - wants a final decision on Snorlax as soon as possible, so let's really focus in on this test and determine once and for all whether this thing belongs in our OU meta.
