You will need the latest pokemmo-launcher .deb file from https://pokemmo.eu/downloads/linux/

UI Method:

To install through the built-in Software Center:

  1. Open your Downloads folder
  2. Right click on pokemmo-launcher deb file
  3. Open with the Software Center
  4. Proceed with installation

The Software Center may be different depending on your distribution. For example, the dialogue may say “Open with software installation”, “Open with GDebi package installer”, “Open with Ubuntu Software Center”, or “Open with QApt package installer”.

Terminal method:

To install with the Terminal:

  1. Open the Terminal
  2. Install the .deb using the following commands:
cd ~/Downloads

On NEWER versions of Debian/Ubuntu:

On OLDER versions of Debian/Ubuntu:

If Java is not already installed, dpkg -i may fail with an error due to dependencies. To resolve this, type the following:

To install through the built-in Software Center:

ZIP Installation

PokeMMO can be run as loose files which are not managed by the package manager. We don't recommend this if you can install the DEB or RPM instead.

To do this:

  1. Download the latest Portable Zip client from https://pokemmo.eu/downloads/portable/
  2. Unzip the files to your folder of choice
  3. Mark the PokeMMO.sh file as Executable using one of the following methods:
    • Right click the PokeMMO.sh file, view the Permissions tab, and enable the "Is executable"
    • Open the folder in a Terminal, and type:
chmod u+x PokeMMO.sh

After, in most Desktop Environments, you can start the game by double-clicking on PokeMMO.sh.

Some desktop environments, such as XFCE, don't allow executing shell scripts through their file managers. To start the game in these environments:

  • Open a Terminal
  • cd to the PokeMMO directory
  • Type:
./PokeMMO.sh
