Shiny Rate of PokeMMO

Recommended Posts

PokeMMO's shiny rate

In PokeMMO, the base shiny rate is 1/30000 with modifiers that would apply under certain conditions (active donator status or botting)

- confirmed on January 6th 2018, Kyu (see the original post)

Spoiler

pNu2E6B.png

The shiny rate with active donator status is 1/27000

- as stated by RacheLucario on May 19th 2018

Spoiler

9207TqW.png
The question asked was whether 1.1/30000 or 1/27000 were closer to the "+10%" boost from a donator status

Concerning the chances for shinies in hordes:
When encountering hordes (two, three or five Pokémon at the same time), each of the (two/three/five) encountered Pokémon have their own/independent chance to be shiny (original post here) and hence several shinies could appear in one single horde (original post here / example here).
Based on that, there is an approximated (not exactly, but very close) chance of 1/15000 to encounter at least one shiny in a horde of two,
an approximated (not exactly, but very close) chance of 1/10000 to encounter at least one shiny in a horde of three,
and an approximated (not exactly, but very close) chance of 1/6000 to encounter at least one shiny in a horde of five.

Data on the shiny rate & different impacts over time

On July 5th 2016 data covering the last 100 captured shinies was provided by Desu (original post in this thread) to confirm that "New players do not have a better chance than older" players; because of the (felt) inequality in distribution of shinies (with some players having a dozen OT shinies while others haven't found a single one)

On 7/5/2016 at 9:08 PM, Desu said:

Shinies and you: An informative PSA

While there's nothing to say that hasn't already been said in some form or another, here's a few important facts that keep being distorted.

  • Aside from Donator Status, there are no significant ways in which players can boost their shiny rates.
  • New players do not have a better chance than older.
  • Most importantly RNG is RNG, there is no guarantee to get a shiny in 100,000,000,000 encounters. Each encounter is a new RNG roll, independent of any previous.
  • Statistical outliers will exist in both extremes.
  • For every new player who gets a shiny, many thousand more do not.
  • Encountering lots of things, like using Hordes, is still the most effective way to encounter a shiny.

And here's some data.

Of the last 100 captured shinies:

  • The average played time is 15.76 days. (11.33 days if ignoring top 3/bottom 3 outliers)
  • The minimum played time is 1.67 hours.
  • The highest played time is 235 days.
  • 78 out of 100 were captured with a player with more than 1 day of played time.

Because 'How new you are' was stated to be one of the modifiers of the shiny rate, people with a longer playtime considered themselves to be unlucky (finding less shinies than newer players/accounts). The question if an account get "cursed" (with a rate that would be very low or zero) arose.
On may 27th 2016 in this thread cursing was negated

28th of april 2016: An outflux to shinies was added with shiny breeding

If both parents are Shiny, the child will now always be Shiny. When breeding Shinies, the child's IV inheritance behaves differently:

4 random IVs are passed directly from the parents to the child. Of these 4, 2 will always be the highest possible value and 2 may be chosen by Braces.
2 are averaged.

On June 18th 2015 we got confirmation that the original shiny rate was altered in PokéMMO to a lower, dynamic rate.

Before some point in time in 2013/2014 the chance to encounter a shiny Pokémon in PokéMMO has been (advertised to be) the same as in the original games - 1/8192 (lowered to 1/7373 with the buyable "Donator Status")

10 players isn't that big of a sample size, especially since you didn't randomly choose them and followed their encounter numbers or something, but just picked some that found a shiny recently.

[...] it seemed to have started the 24th of march [...]
[...] more I missed/forgot/didn't find again... [...]

Nonetheless, it is of course a subjective impression as I stated
Still, others might (or might not) got the same impression lately

First: Magmar is from Ruak ;)

How could you forget this Shiny Magmar of FlareblitzZ ;) I mean this Moment was like winning in Lottery xd After 4 Years he finally made it.

I really thought of that one but wasn't able to find it again :S

If we're noticing a huge difference in shinies being found, it's probably because the donator status is now tradeable, which means many players have now bought it and are using it.

I highly doubt devs changed the rates, unless they wanted sympathy for the hate they were getting in their previous thread. This was probably the best solution, and it seems to have worked well... (for now)

I thought about the influence of the tradable donator status as well, but personally believe the "+10%" are insignificant given the supposedly very low (dynamic) rate we have/had
Furthermore, I know for sure that some of the encounters of last month happened without active donator status, while I have no information about the others...

The more people who hunt with donator status, the more likely a shiny will eventually appear.

Also players hunt in many spots, so the variety of shinies will be likely to appear more frequently too.

That's probably why more 'rarer' shinies have been found, IMO.

I'm not sure why you made "10 players" and "recently" bold in my post. I'm pretty sure there are more than 10 players that find a shiny every week. Just because you heard of 10 players within a month there doesn't have to be a change in rate. Imagine throwing a coin. Just because within 50 throws you have a couple rows of 5+ heads doesn't mean the coin was rigged, especially if you only pay attention after you already got 4 times heads in a row.

oh hey, I'm in the OP. I must be getting famous.

You're making me a shiny celebrity with my low tier shinies again, don't you ?

To be more specific, I got some data for yours topic:

I've caught Primeape at  3238 hours,  this is true. I didn't used donator status and it wasn't in horde.

But most important thing: I was jumping from place to place doing shiny hunt only, so I counted encounters from start.
At the moment of shiny primeape I was at 2235 encounters,+- 3 or 4 pokemons.I don't think rate was increased drastically or in anyway. I think luck. determination and thing that thanks to hordes we actually start to search for shinies instead of bragging about not having one.

Thanks for the additional data
I added it, as well as the new possibility for an outflux of shinies with the new introduced shiny breeding

Regarding this, wouldn't this outflux justify a higher shiny rate?
(OT shinies are needed to breed an OT shiny / several shinies would possibly be needed to breed a shiny with good IVs...)

I wish the shiny child could be OT if any one of the 2 shiny parents were OT instead of getting an OT shiny child if only the female shiny breeder or the non-ditto parent is OT

Edit: someone ask that in suggestion box pls

Possibly the intention is to "sink" more shinies as you would need to add one shiny ditto (more) into your breeding chain (if you want to go that far) in case you have a shiny male OT to turn it into the female (as I believe gender select works the regular way for shinies as well?)

Unlikely, considering the primary reason we implemented it was due to market oversaturation.

So I assume there weren't any (recent) changes to the shiny rate (for example the dynamic rate not taking into account the amount of time played or anything alike that would give a character with more game hours a disadvantage compared to a character with less game hours/activity) and there won't be changes to the rate any in the future?
