This is certainly not a new idea, but I think with the mail advances that we got, we can make this happen now.
The plan is the following:
You can loan pokemon by mail to any user, in your list or not. That pokemon will appear transparent in your PC, with you being unable to use it until it returns, and a message saying it is on loan for x more hours/minutes.
The loaned pokemon is transferred to the said player, holding a special ribbon that does not allow it to be traded or bred. It can still gain experience, EVs and have its moveset changed, so some caution with what you loan is still to be advised.
The said loaned pokemon will function in your party similarly to an egg, which means you need to have at least one non-loaned, non-fainted pokemon in your party to roam the world.
At the end of the loan, the pokemon is restored to the trainer, even if both the parties involved are offline, working n a similar fashion with the mail system. An email notification will accompany, announcing the end of the loan for both players.
The advantages are as follows:
-helps the competitive community: just log in for 2 minutes to loan comps to a friend, even if he is offline, never having to worry about getting them back manually; arguably this can be done via mail, but a loan system gives you more security, and makes you more eager to loan to players you do not know so well
-helps the community work towards completing the pokedex: you can trade your mons to an absolute stranger, having the fact that you get them back guaranteed. This will remove the element of risk when helping a "newbie" fill the pokedex
-makes ev training services more reliable: as long as you pay in advance for an ev training service, you risk much less than by handing over the whole pokemon. Instead of losing something worth 1-2 million, you lose 100k at worst, in case the ev trainer lied about eving. But considering the demands for EV services is high, and supply low (with the supply of trustworthy trainers even lower), that is an improvement everyone will be happy about.
As a final note, pokemmo is very much a single player with scarce multiplayer features. I trully believe this change will greatly help the mmo aspect.
