Alright, here goes.

IGN OrangeManiac

[spoiler]

A Gym Leader; Timothy is the gym leader of Mikado City Gym. Timothy is a guitarist/keyboard player in a electro/rock/metal group “Sons of Giratina”, which is known band all around in the Pokemon world from Hoenn to Kalos. Timothy has always been interested in electronics and is a qualified electrician. He’s 22 years old. He has been a huge fan of music ever since he was four and this remained as his hobby to his adult days in which he has one of the most successful bands in the Pokemon World. Timothy is really interested in using technology inventions in order to make his music better and more creative.

Gym Type; Electric-type

Gym Badge; Amperebadge. It’s a thunder-icon shaped golden-yellowish badge.

Gym Layout; Gym has 3 rooms and one big hall (concert hall) in which the leader Timothy waits. The 3 rooms have a trainer awaiting. Each trainer asks you to repeat a melody they’re playing with the musical mats (equivalent to the ones in Secret bases) and if the challenger repeats the melody and rhythms it correctly, the challenger goes through. If slightest fail, challenger has to battle. Each room has harder and harder melody to play.

You can just imagine it but here's Ms Paint layout: http://i.imgur.com/i7WBD2S.png http://i.imgur.com/UOJ411R.png

Gym Leader's Team;

Team 1:

Timothy leads the first battle with level 43 Manectric. This Manectric is Timid 252 Speed 252 Special Attack and has a diverse movepool of Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Hidden Power Grass and Signal Beam, ability Lightningrod holding Leftovers. This Pokemon causes a huge beginning pressure on his opponent with amazing movepool.

Timothy’s second Pokemon is level 45 an Adamant Raichu. Even with first challenger Timothy wants to surprise his opponent. This Raichu is 252 HP 252 Attack and has Volt Tackle, Iron Tail, Endure and Reversal holding a Liechi Berry. This set surely is weird but Timothy was never afraid of experimenting. Maximum HP makes sure Timothy can spam the Volt Tackle as many times as possible while either recoiling himself on Liechi range or Enduring to 1 HP trying to Reversal opponent. Timothy might also go for 1 HP Volt Tackle, he is just the kind of a reckless guy that doesn’t care.

Timothy’s third Pokemon is his level 46 Modest Magneton with 252 HP 252 Special Attack and holding Leftovers. The moveset for this Pokemon is Metal Sound, Thunderbolt, Hidden Power Grass and Tri Attack and has Magnet Pull. Metal Sound is there because YEAAAH METAAALLL \,,/ .. no I mean because it can cause some pressure on special walls which will not get 2HKOd easily. Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Grass takes care of the coverage and Tri Attack is just a nice move to annoy any opponent that think they can avoid being statused.

Timothy’s last Pokemon in 1st run is a level 47 Ampharos. This Ampharos was the first Pokemon Timothy ever owned and they go way back. As a 6 year old him the hipster he was when everyone wanted to catch intimidating looking Raticates and Mightyenas while Timothy wanted a Flaffy. His friends often laughed how he wants a sheep as a Pokemon, it’s like he wants to lose. Timothy, however proved everyone wrong when he raised his Flaffy adamantly and it eventually became an Ampharos. This Ampharos has won the biggest Pokemon matches for Timothy and is the main reason Timothy became a gym leader in this Electric-type gym.

His Ampharos is Modest, 100 Speed, 154 Special Attack and 252 HP. This Ampharos’ moveset is Agility, Thunderbolt, Signal Beam and Hidden Power Water. Just with one turn Ampharos becomes a really fast Pokemon and Timothy likes his Electric-types often fast, just like his music. This Pokemon is usually the one that cleans the table.

Team 2 (lv 100):

The problem with Team 1 is that Ground-types tend to have an advantage against it. For a second battle, this has been changed a lot. All Pokemon are level 100.

The second battle Timothy leads with an Electrode. The Electrode is Naive 252 Special Attack 252 Attack because it’s so fast anyways, it doesn’t care about speed. It has Rain Dance, Thunder, Explosion and Hidden Power Water and holding a Magnet. Electrode always sets up turn 1 Rain Dance and depending on the damage it either Thunders or just Explodes away.

The reason for all of this is now Timothy’s second Pokemon, Lanturn. Your Ground-types should be very afraid now. As Ground-types are generally slow, Timothy wants to guarantee the first and and therefor his Lanturn is timid 252 Speed 252 Special Attack. The moveset is Thunder, Surf, Ice Beam and Thunder Wave. Not only are Ground-types afraid of this Pokemon, barely anything switches in reliably. Obvious Volt Absorb and holds Leftovers.

Timothy’s third Pokemon is his old Manectric with the same set as first time. Except, well… this time you shouldn’t be able to live a single hit because of the level. This time has a Petaya Berry for extra surprise.

Timothy’s 4th Pokemon has been changed from Raichu to Jolteon. Gottagofast? Nope. This Jolteon is Bold 252 HP 252 Defense and has Wish, Heal Bell, Protect and Thunderbolt. It’s supposed to be offensive but uses its time to support any of its injured teammates. Basic Lefties.

Timothy’s 5th is Magneton again. This time not the exact Magneton. This Magneton is Timid max Speed max Sp. Atk and has Hidden Power Water, Tri Attack, Thunderbolt and Substitute.

And Timothy’s last resort is his MVP, his favorite Pokemon of all time - Ampharos. The Ampharos still Agility set because he doesn’t want to bother his best friend with any new gimmicks. If it ain’t broken, why fix it. Has Magnet but it doesn't need it, you should have lost by now.

Gym Leader Script

When challenged: “Hey there! You came here to jam with me? No? Ah, a Pokemon battle? Right, I’m a gym leader. Almost forgot that while playing my guitar here. Well, I sincerely wish we will have a good and electrifying battle!”
When Timothy wins: “That was an intense battle.”
When Timothy loses: “I guess I wasn’t electrifying enough…”

Gym Trainers;

The gym has 3 trainers. These trainers will battle you if you fail to play the melody correctly with musical mats.

In the first room, there is a “Guitarist” Roger. He runs a Modest level 40 Magnemite with Sonicboom, Thundershock, Thunder Wave and Swift. Just a basic warm for what’s about to come. Roger’s second Pokemon is a level 42 Modest Magneton which has Lock On, Zap Cannon, Tri Attack and Metal Sound. A bit more intimidating Pokemon than the first one, this Magneton tries to Lock-On to guarantee a Zap Cannon hitting and then finish you off. A weird set, but hey. He’s only the first trainer so you can’t expect much. Doesn’t even hold items, because too poor for them.

Second trainer is a “Rocker” Ian. This guy is all about making the sound. He has two Pokemon, Loudred and Exploud. His Loudred is Adamant and has Thunderpunch, Body Slam, Brick Break and Dynamicpunch. For some reason it holds a Magnet, probably Timothy told him to. Ian’s second Pokemon is a Exploud which is Timid 252 Speed 252 Special Attack and has Hyper Voice, Shock Wave, Surf and Flamethrower. This special coverage is something very nice but Ian usually just ends up spamming the Hyper Voice. This thing holds Magnet too.

The 3rd and final trainer of the Gym is "Rocker" Jonathan. You’re most likely not able to play his music combo with the mats because it’s so hard to memorize so you probably end up battling this guy. He challenges you to a double battle with Plusle and Minun. Their Plus and Minus abilities make these two really strong in Doubles. They both are Timid w/ max Speed/SP.Atk and have Helping Hand, Thunderbolt, Hidden Power Grass and Encore. Helping Hand kinda doesn’t make sense because he could just make both Pokemon attack the same thing, but he’s a trainer on the way to gym leader so let’s just cut him some slack.

Challenges within the Gym

You will be faced with 4 challenges in this gym:

  1. The Dark Room -Flash can be used
  2. Multiple Transporters -which transporter WON’T take you back to the entry room?
  3. Boulder Puzzle -Mind your step! NOTE THAT THE TOSHLEY SPRITES ARE BOULDERS! Also note that you CANNOT cross the holes until all 3 holes are covered.
  4. Sandstorm [Rematch ONLY] -whilst traveling through the gym the second time for the rematch, you will notice a sandstorm has brewed (the sandstorm DOES carry through the fights just as it does in the desert in Hoenn)

Gym Leader Astrid

[spoiler]

[/spoiler]

Meet Astrid: A 19-year-old gym leader originating from Hoenn. Despite her family gym being fire-type, Astrid’s specialty is ground types. It mainly has to do with her sibling rivalry between her and her elder sister.

This was my first time doing pixel art and I’m pretty happy with the result :3

The first Astrid is the first match (obviously) and the second, more decked-out Astrid is the rematch. Astrid-rematch is ready for the sandstorm with her cape and goggles, are you??

Gym Badge

This is the badge I made for the gym. I call it the Spirit Badge. It's named after the Desert Spirit Flygon to keep with the desert-like theme. That's why it's a Flygon Tail.

Astrid’s Backstory/Gym Trainer’s Script

[Fisherman Welsar]

Journey to Kanto Entry #1: Nryufufu! The escape was successful! I’ll show sis that a fire gym is truly the inferior gym!

[End of Battle]

“Phew! I need a drink!”

[After Battle]

I heard Astrid and her sister always competed for first place, maybe that’s why she ran away to Kanto.

[Kindler Pokta]

Journey to Kanto Entry #8: it’s been a few days since Flygon and I made I to the base of the mountain. Now we face our greatest challenge yet: Hoenn’s route 110 Desert!

[End of Battle]

“It’s too hot for this!”

[After Battle]

Astrid braved the desert alone when she was 15. She probably developed her odd speech during that time too.

[Psychic Kaorine]

Journey to Kanto Entry #12: JEEPERS CREEPERS! It’s blazing during the day! Now Flygon and I travel at night. Did ya hear that?

[End of Battle]

“I knew you were strong, but this...!”

[After Battle]

No matter what she does, Astrid always cares for the well-being of her pokemon above her own! Isn’t she just amazing!

[Hiker Daktri]

Journey to Kanto Entry #13: Woah, a crowd of Baltoy and Cacnea! Why’re they in that pit using Needle Arm??

[End of Battle]

“You may have escaped now, but you won’t next time!”

[After Battle]

Despite her family gym being fire, Astrid got a Trapinch for her birthday. Maybe that’s why she chose ground instead of becoming a fire gym leader.

[Ruin Maniac Koji]

Journey to Kanto Entry #14: They’re bullying that Trapinch cuz he’s different! Flygon, quick! You scare ‘em off, I’ll save that poor Trapinch!

[End of Battle]

“Scurry on, little Mouse!”

[After Battle]

She may speak tall-tales, but she definitely aint! Don’t go telling her that, she’ll blow a fuse. Haha.

 [Ace Trainer Libelldra]

Journey to Kanto Entry #23: I remember the time I saved Trapinch from those bullies. Now he’s a beautiful Vibrava! I know one day we’ll train him up to be a beautiful Flygon!

[End of Battle]

“What Mystical sorcery is this?!”

[After Battle]

Astrid has always been kind to us trainers. She got into a lot of trouble at first but I guess her goofy personality and speech covers that up for her.

Gym Leader Astrid’s Script

[Opening]

Nryufufu! Y’ve done well getting’ this far. We’ve all worked hard ta prove ourselves. But now’s th’ most important moment in y’er journey. ...BAM! LET’S GET THIS SHOW GOIN’!

[Trainer Loss]

Nryufufu! I won’t be stoppin’ here! Try again lat’r!

[Trainer Win]

Jeepers Creepers! Y’re good! Congratz, ya got mah respect.

[Closing]

That there’s th’ Spirit Badge. It proves y’ve worked hard ta get where ya stand now. Wear it proud and may the Desert Spirit watch over ya!

  Astrid’s Rematch Script

[Opening]

Quite a storm we got goin’, ey? Nevertheless, we gots us a score to settle! I’ll show ya th’ truu power of th’ Desert Spirit’s Blessin’!!

[Rematch Loss]

Nryufufu! Th’ Desert Spirit is always with meh!

[Rematch Win]

Th’ Desert Spirit has smiled upon ya.

[Rematch Closing]

Even after all this time I can’t seem ta beat ya!

[/spoiler]

Unfortunately, in the video I couldn’t get Astrid to say her line when she wins the battle (Trainer Loss & Rematch Loss) so it’s a good thing it’s listed here ^^

A Little Something-Something

[spoiler]

The Map

[spoiler]

You wouldn’t be able to tell in game, but if you take a closer look at the floor layout, you might notice a little something-something ;)

VIVA VCO!

Gym%20Easter%20Egg_zpst3xu2hay.png

[/spoiler]

Trainers

[spoiler]

If anyone knows me (and only VCO members really do v.v ), you'd know that I am a language junky. The Easter Egg in regards to the Trainer names will help you prepare for Astrid's rematch battle. It also explains why the trainers change from their trainer sprites to Pokemon. Allow me to explain:

Welscar = German for Whiscash
Pokta = Korean for Camerupt
Kaorine = French for Claydol
Daktri(o) = Korean for Dugtrio
Koji = Korean for Sandslash
Libelldra = German for Flygon

[/spoiler]

The Pedestal

[spoiler]

It's not exactly an easter egg but it is something that can easily be overlooked.

Upon entering the gym for the first time, there will be a pedestal in the dead centre of the room. When you interact with it, the following message pops up:

"There's writing on the pedestal. It's too eroded to make out any words."

AFTER defeating Astrid for the first time, if the player goes back to read the pedestal, the eroded words become the Journal Entries stated by the trainers within the gym. It tells the story of Astrid as she makes her way from Hoenn to Kanto and her first encounter with her Shiny Trapinch.

[/spoiler]

[/spoiler]

[/spoiler]

That's all there is to it ^^ Was a long but fun challenge :3

I hope the winner's idea will be considered to be added into the game in the future, i mean, If we ever get to that point it would be a valid use of it and i'm sure the person who made the idea would be thrilled.

They could definitely make a new region and implement the winner as the 8th gym leader of a NPC after their character.

Unfortunately, in the video I couldn’t get Astrid to say her line when she wins the battle (Trainer Loss & Rematch Loss) so it’s a good thing it’s listed here ^^

You wouldn’t be able to tell in game, but if you take a closer look at the floor layout, you might notice a little something-something ;)

Probably should mention that the random Toshley sprites are the boulders, if you didn't watch the video.

quick question, do the physics of the gym puzzles have to exist in game, or can they be made up?

Use your Gamefreak Logic.

[/spoiler]

In this video, I go through my gym (on RPG Maker) and show you first hand everything from how the gym looks like in game to the challenges you face while going through it.

Of course, I won’t just be having that as the main source of information. So YOU DON’T HAVE TO WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO IF YOU DON’T WANT TO!!!

This is how the gym looks like without the dark room:

Challenges within the Gym

You will be faced with 4 challenges in this gym:

  1. The Dark Room -Flash can be used
  2. Multiple Transporters -which transporter WON’T take you back to the entry room?
  3. Boulder Puzzle -Mind your step! NOTE THAT THE TOSHLEY SPRITES ARE BOULDERS!
  4. Sandstorm [Rematch ONLY] -whilst traveling through the gym the second time for the rematch, you will notice a sandstorm has brewed (the sandstorm DOES carry through the fights just as it does in the desert in Hoenn)

Gym Leader Astrid

[spoiler]

Astrid%20with%20info_zpsz1llnvb3.png

This is the badge I made for the gym. I call it the Spirit Badge. It's named after the Desert Spirit Flygon to keep with the desert-like theme. That's why it's a Flygon Tail.

Please note that this is going to be REALLY LONG because it’s quite literally just me going C+P from the script word document I wrote out in preparation for this.

You can also see the trainers saying their lines in the video at their time frames listed under Gym Trainer Battle Teams.

[spoiler]

Astrid’s Backstory/Gym Trainer’s Script

[Welsar]

Journey to Kanto Entry #1: Nryufufu! The escape was successful! I’ll show sis that a fire gym is truly the inferior gym!

=BATTLE= “Phew! I need a drink!”

I heard Astrid and her sister always competed for first place, maybe that’s why she ran away to Kanto.

[Pokta]

Journey to Kanto Entry #8: it’s been a few days since Flygon and I made I to the base of the mountain. Now we face our greatest challenge yet: Hoenn’s route 110 Desert!

=BATTLE= “It’s too hot for this!”

Astrid braved the desert alone when she was 15. She probably developed her odd speech during that time too.

[Kaorine]

Journey to Kanto Entry #12: JEEPERS CREEPERS! It’s blazing during the day! Now Flygon and I travel at night. Did ya hear that?

=BATTLE= “I knew you were strong, but this...!”

No matter what she does, Astrid always cares for the well-being of her pokemon above her own! Isn’t she just amazing!

[Daktri]

Journey to Kanto Entry #13: Woah, a crowd of Baltoy and Cacnea! Why’re they in that pit using Needle Arm??

=BATTLE= “You may have escaped now, but you won’t next time!”

Despite her family gym being fire, Astrid got a Trapinch for her birthday. Maybe that’s why she chose ground instead of becoming a fire gym leader.

[Koji]

Journey to Kanto Entry #14: They’re bullying that Trapinch cuz he’s different! Flygon, quick! You scare ‘em off, I’ll save that poor Trapinch!

=BATTLE= “Scurry on, little Mouse!”

She may speak tall-tales, but she definitely aint! Don’t go telling her that, she’ll blow a fuse. Haha.

 [Libelldra]

Journey to Kanto Entry #23: I remember the time I saved Trapinch from those bullies. Now he’s a beautiful Vibrava! I know one day we’ll train him up to be a beautiful Flygon!

=BATTLE= “What Mystical sorcery is this?!”

Astrid has always been kind to us trainers. She got into a lot of trouble at first but I guess her goofy personality and speech covers that up for her.

Entry: [spoiler]

A Gym Leader: The Dark type gym leader, Mare

5dc60613c1f907a006b8d8938f04cb22.gif

Mare has led a troubled past. Being an albino, he had trouble fitting in at school and even around his own home. He found himself everyday cowering in a dark corner, hoping it all would just go away. One day, he was walking in a dark forest alone when he spotted a Murkrow. He was intrigued and began to follow the dark bird, but he quickly noticed he was lost at one point. Then, the sun dipped over the trees, revealing a pack of Houndoom waiting in the wings. Instead of attacking him however, they found solace in his personality and took a liking to him. Since then, Mare has accepted darkness as his calling, never going out into the sun. Thus giving him the nickname "Vampire"

  • Gym Type: Dark type
  • Gym Badge: Nocturne Badge
  • bb9189c0-c133-11e5-8cb9-79f74532907e.gif
  • Gym Layout:
  • de3098b74224ab1f36fe8025df7a94b5.png
  • The way this gym works is a simple premise. When you walk in, the whole gym is pitch black. You must navigate your way through without getting lost or sent back to the beginning.
  • The green path is an outline of the winding roads you can take. The yellow squares indicate a trainer battle that you cannot skip.
  • Another thing, if you happen to hit one of the many dead ends in this gym, you will be sent back to the start, so keep that in mind.
  • Lastly, if a challenger happens to try and use Flash, it will not work as the darkness is too thick.

Gym Leaders Team:

FIRST TIME:

Mightyena lvl45

Ability: Intimidate

Item: BrightPowder

Moves:

Sand Attack

Double Team

Crunch

Dig

This is his lead, which gets off an Intimidate and will then proceed to raise its evasion or lower accuracy to annoy you. Dig is also there for added evasion. This pokemons function is mainly to soften up your pokemon for his heavy hitters.

Murkrow lvl 46

Ability: Insomnia

Item: Sharp Beak

Moves:

Drill Peck

Shadow Ball

Heat Wave

Faint Attack

A mixed attacker, Murkrow can hit a fair amount of types super effectively with his moveset. He is a glass cannon however, so strong moves should be enough to take him out.

Shiftry lvl 48

Ability: Chlorophyll

Item: Miracle Seed

Moves:

Sunny Day

Solarbeam

Explosion

Faint Attack

This can be a threatening pokemon as Shiftrys speed doubles while under the sun, making him a terrifying sweeper if you don't have a fire type to resist his Solarbeam. Shiftry is weak to a lot of types though.

Sharpedo lvl 48

Ability: Rough Skin

Item: Blackglasses

Moves:

Crunch

Waterfall

Earthquake

Scary Face

Sharpedo is quick and can hit hard with his physical attacks, but he can't take one himself.

Houndoom lvl 50

Ability: Flash Fire

Item: Salac Berry

Moves:

Flamethrower

Reversal

Destiny Bond

Endure

His signature pokemon, Houndoom can catch many by surprise when he uses Endure to take a Surf/EQ. He can then hit hard with Reversal and use Destiny Bond if the pokemon is too bulky. Definitely a pokemon to watch for.

REMATCH:

Sableye lvl100

Ability: Keen Eye

Nature/Spread: Impish, 252 hp/def

Item: Leftovers

Moves:

Toxic

Torment

Recover

Night Shade

Sableyes function is to wittle you down with Toxic and recover HP. Generally just an annoyance.

Houndoom lvl100

Ability: Flash Fire

Nature/Spread: Hasty 252 speed, 200 spatk, 52 atk

Item: Charcoal

Moves:

Fire Blast

Pursuit

Will O Wisp

Hidden Power Grass

Houndooms role is to now just cripple your physical attackers and slam your team hard with a STAB Charcoal boosted Fire Blast. Ouch. HP Grass is there to cover water types who would wall him otherwise.

Crawdaunt lvl100

Ability: Hyper Cutter

Nature/Spread: Adamant 252 atk/speed

Item: Scope Lens

Moves:

Dragon Dance

Crabhammer

Crunch

Superpower

Crawdaunt can sweep with ease if he gets off Dragon Dance and the scope lens is there to boost the crit ratio of his moves, namely Crabhammer which already has a buffed crit ratio.

Absol lvl100

Ability: Pressure

Nature/Spread: Jolly 252 atk/speed

Item: Kings Rock

Moves:

Bite

Megahorn

Swords Dance

Superpower

Absol has high physical attack and can net a surprise flinch with Bite, but Absol is very frail.

Umbreon lvl100

Ability: Synchronize

Nature/Spread: Relaxed 252 hp 128 def 128 spdef

Item: Leftovers

Moves:

Curse

Moonlight

Body Slam

Bite

Curse is an annoyance which increases Umbreons bulk even further and allows him to damage with Bite and possibly net paralysis with Body Slam.

Tyranitar lvl100

Ability: Sand Stream

Nature/Spread: Jolly 252 atk/speed

Item: Lum Berry

Moves:

Crunch

Rock Slide

Ice Punch

Dragon Dance

Mares biggest threat, Tyranitar is capable of squashing the opponent with powerful rock slides and crunches. Dragon Dance can amp him up even further if he is not taken out quickly.

Gym Leader Script:

First time: "Hello. I'm surprised you managed to find your way... my name is Mare. People call me many things. Skillful trainer is one of them. Hmph. Well, I won't waste your time. Let's see what this light of yours can do."

Win: "Now I see..."

Lose: "If you can't handle darkness, then you have no business here. Be gone."

Rematch: "You came back... spending time in the light has really given you power hasn't it? The dark has also shown me many things. If you're prepared to fight again, then come. Show me what you have learned."

Rematch Win: "Shining above the darkness...my what a trainer!"

Rematch Lose: "It seems I have proved my point."

This is a pretty cool gym, good job.

One thing I would have liked to see, personally.

If these were linked, you could literally go around in circles, that would be annoying haha.

Not needed for sure, I just think that would add to the annoyance of that maze. Good job tho.
