The one and only PICKUP THREAD

It's about time. Share all your information about pickup to help your fellow players finding good stuff all around Kanto. Here is what I know based on testing on the PTS and live server:

Pickup only works in Kanto. Item drops seem to be purely based off the area you are in, although I'm not quite sure. I'm also not sure how an area is defined (is each route different? etc.) The pickup rate seems to be around 5-10%. Balls, repels and potions seem to be the most common. They increase in value the further you get into the game story-wise (pokeball -> great ball -> ultra ball, repel -> super repel -> max repel etc.) Random berries appear in some places. I also managed to pick up a miracle seed north of Cerulean on the PTS, so I suspect type-boosting items will be in different areas.

Let's do this!

EDIT: Just found a spell tag in the Lavender tower.

EDIT2: Okay, I'm gonna make a list, feel free to add your input. Stuff in brackets are not confirmed on the live server, only the PTS.

Only your mind is misleading you. Coolio is still welcome to come with some pickup lines, though.

Just wanted to note the following after having visited Cerulean Cave:

-In ceruleans cave you seem to have a higher chance of picking up an item. This might suggest the probability of picking up an item is not constant (needs more testing)

-Tiny mushroom and big mushroom were only picked up after defeating a parasect. Black belt was only picked up after defeating machoke. The other items were also found after defeating the same spieces of pokemon. This might suggest that the picked up item does not only depend on area, but on the pokemon you defeat.

Thanks a lot Blonde! I will incorporate your results after doing some more testing about whether items are in fact pokemon dependent.

EDIT: Some results. I found 13 items from 118 encounters in Mt. Ember. I found 11 items from 100 encounters in Cerulean Cave. I think I was either lucky or biased yesterday, the pickup rate seems to be a contstant 10% (both of these experiments suggests 11%.) Here is a list of items I found in Cerulean Cave, in correct order and together with the pokemon I defeated:

Hyper Potion (Ditto)
Metal Coat (Ditto)
Magnet (Golbat)
Twisted Spoon (Golbat)
Max Repel (Electrode)
Hyper Potion (Parasect)
Super Potion (Magneton)
Black Belt (Parasect)
Super Potion (Magneton)
Metal Coat (Machoke)
Black Belt (Electrode)
Twisted Spoon (Parasect)
Metal Coat (Magneton)
Super Potion (Ditto)
Tiny Mushroom (Magneton)
Metal Powder (Parasect)
Great Ball (Ditto)
Metal Coat (Ditto)
Metal Powder (Magneton)
Metal Powder (Parasect)

Based on this, I can not conclude that items are pokemon dependent, it seems rather random to me. For now I will keep listing the items independent of pokemon.

I think the pick up rate is around 10-11% too. I know for sure I was underestimating my icefall cave encounter count. I found the best way for me to keep up with the encounter count was to just count the PP. I was using a meowth and the moves are 20 PP each. easy peezy.

 1. Put a pokemon that knows the pick up ability at the front of your party and dont make it hold an item. list
 2. Enter into a wild encounter in the kanto region or islands (not useable in hoenn I don't think.
 3. faint the wild pokemon.
 4. An item may now be generated and check your pokemon with pick up to see if it is holding a new item. If the pokemon is holding an item, take the item off so you can get more.

Repeat 2-4
