NU Tier Discussion Request Thread

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure Claydol, Chimecho, Bellossom and Tangela are just straight up counters to Donphan. While it is a rapid spinner (which isn't necessarily a bad thing in a tier where spikes are so good) and be used defensive. I think offensive will be used the most but there seem to be enough things that deal with it. I can see it being less problematic than Granbull.

Problem I see isn't Donphan itself, but what you can pair it with to setup on its counters and sweep, if your opponent doesn't teambuild thinking of Donphan too much then it just loses to band EQ anyways. Also Sturdy lead is always annoying.

Yes, I think new NU meta will centralize around Donphan that much, but we'll see.

Grumpig is shit @SweeTforU

Donphan will just play a similar role as it did in UU before Golem. If your opponents can't cover ground attacks, you're fucked.

Crazy how pokemon battles work, if your opponents can't cover water attacks your probably fucked as well. Donphan not having rock blast or rock STAB makes it a lot more manageable than golem

Yeh, if you don't cover ground attacks, your team building is flawed - but it did happen in pre-golem UU occasionally(although before Meganium, it was more often with Vileplume being more common).

What I meant was, because stab EQ is so strong, anything that doesn't resist it is not going to wall it, unlike a lot of other types.

I'm not saying Donphan will be strong btw, I actually don't think it will be great in NU, too much ground resist/immunity.

Should be comparing it to Aggron tbh. Either way, lacking a secondary, powerful STAB really screws Donphan over. Its checks are many and all are commonly used.

Ok I'm getting on the "ban Granbull" train now, that thing is fucking cancer to play around with. Only ways you don't lose more than a mon against this shit are pack superpowers on everything, pack specs on everything (and even most spec mons cant ohko it and get ohkod back) or bring a fuckle (but then again, Iron Tail > fuckle).

It takes time before opening a discussion thread, so feel free to give more feedback about Granbull here in the meantime. (Not making any promises about a thread being opened tho)

I also think Granbull deserves a thread

252+ Atk Choice Band Granbull Iron Tail vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Shuckle: 70-84 (55.1 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Granbull Double-Edge vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Whiscash: 102-121 (47 - 55.7%) -- 77.3% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Granbull Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sableye: 77-91 (49 - 57.9%) -- 62.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Granbull Iron Tail vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Solrock: 144-170 (73 - 86.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Plus access tot he Bulk up /rest set that can also be pretty miserable to play against in the current meta.
