Competitive Assistance Quick-fire Questions.

Hello,

I'm currently trying to breed a somewhat bulky Jolteon, to improve its survivabilty vs Chansey and to put its great spdef to use

Do you know what EV spread would work?

So far I came up with: TIMID => 232HP / 252 SPATK / 20 SPEED + 4 wherever

(HP IV is 30, which is why I dont go 236)

20 speed gives me 168, enough to outspeed speed nature base 100

My problem is according to damage calculator seismic toss is a 4hKO with this spread, and that with a little more HP investment it becomes a 5HKO

Is this really a case scenario I should prepare for ? Do you think there are other threats I should prioritize?

Jolteon only needs to hit 162 hp to be able to stall out chansey with wish, as wish restores 50% (81 hp) and leftovers restores 10 hp per turn, so you heal 1 more than two seismic tosses. Bulky jolteon isn't too useful if you don't run wish since it's still going to lose to chansey. I'd say you want more speed as there are certainly some threats between 168 and 200 such as espeon, tauros, starmie, alakazam, sceptile, and then the ability to speed tie aerodactyl/opposing jolteons. I'd say 190 speed or 184 speed is a pretty good speed to hit, as aerodactyl's aren't horribly common and you can just freely switch out instead of trying to gamble on a 50/50 speed tie. 190 speed will let you outspeed sceptile and alakazam. If you're not worried about those too much, then you could drop down to 184 speed, which puts you above max speed starmie.

For moveset, thunderbolt+hp ice+wish are fairly mandatory. Last can be either growth, which lets jolteon actually beat chanseys without toxic, or it can be heal bell so it can be a pretty nice cleric, or it can be protect, so that it can wish+protect vs higher damage dealing threats than chansey.

Thank you very much for the info on seismic toss/chansey matchup

Yes it is a wish Jolteon with Wish/HP Ice/Tbolt growth (soon)   because I already have a max speed Jolteon So I wanted something different

I'm not trying to speed tie Aeros because I'm not fond of speed ties + I have a reliable check for it, Same for Kazam/Espeons, I already have a few answers ready for them.

But since I actually need to invest less EV in HP than I thought, I have a bit more to spend so I'l probably aim for a higher speed cap, thank you

Just for reference, what would be the most popular

sets for Aerodactil?

Sorry for the double post...

Rock Slide/EQ/Crunch or pursuit/Double Edge with choice band, if you like you can go Aerial Ace too for the double stab but I don't think it's worth it.

You could try a mixed set too but I dont know if it's as effective. Fire Blast/Rock Slide/EQ/Crunch or Double-Edge with a naive/hasty nature and Life Ball.

Some players they may not have friends that are very experienced in the competitive scene. It is also a lot less daunting to be new and ask for help in a pre-existing thread rather than start one yourself.

I'm hoping that this thread can be used for competitive players to share their knowledge with each other for the small issues of training/battling/making competitive Pokemon. If it doesn't take off, then we can always just close it - it does not hurt to try something new though. :) Queries that need some more in depth answers (such as "rate my team") should have their own threads.

Good afternoon competitive community! Roy Rogers Incorporated has an announcement to make that will blow your mind and will address @Noad's main concern. Roy Rogers Incorporated would like for newer players to watch this video and don't worry, I will provide time stamps of different aspects of the competitive community as well as some of the guides used for this broadcast! So sit tight and enjoy!
