Safari Zone pokemon rotation?

First off I'd like to apologise if there's a topic already like this one, I did a search but didn't really find anything quite like what I'm reffering to.

My suggsetion is simple, impliment some sort of rotation to the safari zone that could have us catch Gen II and III pokemon, perhaps having the catchable pokemon change every month. For those that like to grind for Lucky Eggs and the dragon items Chansey, Dratini and Dragonair should be kept where they are, or perhaps there could be a designated area within the Safari zone that always has Gen I pokemon in it.

As a very rough example:

Nidoran (m) & (f) -> Aron

Nidorino & Nidorina -> Lairon

Doduo -> Wingull

Paras -> Surskit

Parasect -> Masquerain

Kangaskhan -> Spinda

Pinsir -> Volbeat

Scyther -> Illumise

I think this should be a bimonthly thing, so once the month is over it should switch back to the Gen I pokemon, and then next month switch to Gen II, or just some different Gen III pokemon. (Seviper and Zangoose in place of Scyther and Pinsir, as an example)

Terribly sorry I'm not too good at explaining things, if anyone's confused as to what I mean I'll try to explain further.

Not bad i guess, i don't believe i've seen it suggested, although i could be wrong. Although they will be adding gen II and gen III eventually so there is little point unless you want to catch all these pokemon soon.

I'm aware that gens II and III will be implimented eventually, I meant this as a sort of temporary 'here's a little thing to hold you over till then' sort of deal.

The problem would be getting the pokemon to be of relative equal worth. Nobody wants to lose the ability to catch a core poke such as chancey for the likes of zigzagoon or some other throwaway.

But sure, if its balanced I'd have no problems.

Edit: However I do enjoy the current "event" implementation we have. Like how we got some Halloween-y themed pokes for Halloween in the wild.

I did account for people who like to grind.

It's not necessarily a "grinding" issue. But PokeMMO is very end game based. The main storyline takes about 10 hours, and after that, anyone who stays either A) Hunts for shinies or B ) goes competitive. If we were to remove and replace a bunch of competitively fit Pokes are replace them with trash, it would probably impact the game in a negative manor. Just my thoughts.

Fairly certain boss said it would be a rotating thing, we wouldn;t be getting rid of the pokes like chancey and tauros.

We would just have a few foreign Pokemon in the safari, popping in, not replacing, as there's more than one area in the safari zone, leaving chancey and the likes where they should be.

It is a true fact that in Pokemmo;s state, the replay value has diminished as Pokemon fire red is not naturally an MMO, and the MAJOR fact that this game is in Alpha. With the lack of hoenn trading, we;d need SOME way to get Hoenn pokemon into johto, such as the event we have right now, and Boss;s idea is a perfect example of one of these ideas that could be tweaked and worked in properly.

Did you know, Pokemon Emerald actually has a special post game section in its Safari zone for Unobtainable Pokemon naturally in the wild, such as Houndour?

Its not really diminishing the replay value, its trying to add more. More Pokemon, more variation in teams, more things to do. I fail to see how its a negative thing.

Also Pokemon like Aron aren't trash, they're variety, remember Boss was just giving examples.

You cant assume other region Pokemon are all trash, who said only trashy Pokemon were on rotation, and the fact that a good Pokemon may only be there for a month would give people a more active Play-style to catch the best one sooner.

I personally think we should just stick to paper, voice ideas and have that dealt with, but focus more on the base of the game and not what we WANT, but really sorta need. We want to get the base layed down before we start putting the paint on the walls that aren't even standing yet.

Do you know what generation this is?

I say toss this idea out. When we get to Johto and Hoenn, they will have their specific Safari Zone counterparts.

Yes, FR/LG is Generation III. If you'd read the topic you'd see that I said this should be a temporary thing to hold people over until other regions are implimented.

I kind of like this idea, except not do a long period like a month, more like a week or even a day, so that it is a lot harder to get other gen pokemon and rare pokemon. Maybe we could do like one day of the week the pokemon will change to like gen two pokemon, and then the other 6 days of the week it is a normal firered safari zone. Then the next week the day will do like gen 3 or so. This way it is a small window of time to get other gen pokemon so that we are not polluting firered/leafgreen with all of the other pokemon so fast.

Like some have said, the really difficult part would be deciding what pokemon to replace current ones during rotations.

On top of that, how many rotations should there be? 2 rotation sets? 3? 4? more? (including current spawn group as one rotation set)

I think weekly rotations would be good. No need to do month long ones and possibly screw new players out of getting certain pokemon for extended periods.

I like this variation idea. I completely agree with the final boss from one of the MOTHER games. That way nobody can complain about the pokemon that are "supposed" to be there.

Of course if they are supplemental to the normal pokemon I agree with Gizmo that weekly would make more sense. A month can feel like an perpetuality, and could discourage players from returning. If every week it rotated it could serve as a good reason for players to come back week after week. Especially if they were pokemon with hold items (Like how chansey has the lucky egg)

And if it was a weekly rotation, I think four rotations would be enough. That way people get something new every week, and one week out of every month get a chance to encounter rare pokemon.

And from an implementation standpoint, the current game seems more than equipped to handle clock based events.

There has been conjecture that both Giegue and Giygas are the same entity. With that said, it would

make sense you would agree with one another because you're the same thing.

Anyway, I agree with every point you make and genuinely believe this is a good idea.

That was the joke :v

As for what pokemon to feature in the various rotations, I honestly don't care. But I do like the idea of having Aron.

Perhaps the different rotations can be type-themed.

One week could be a Fire theme, so pokemon not found in Kanto but with a Fire type can now be found in the Safari Zone. Another week is Ice theme, so same but with Ice pokemon instead. Bugs/Poison, Rock/Steel, Grass, Water, Flying, etc.

I didn't expect so many replies when I woke up, there are a quite a few replies so I won't quote.

'One month is too long!'

Thinking on it more I agree, when I was typing up the topic I was thinking about the current Halloween event. Of course I failed to consider it was a month long because it was a holiday themed event.

'How would the pokemon in rotation be decided/how many?'

I hadn't actually thought about this, maybe there could be a public poll of some sort? On the other hand I REALLY like ratikarp's idea of having the weeks be type themed.

'How many rotations in total?'

As others have said before I think 4 rotations in a month (One a week) would be the best way to go.
