I was never in the elite circle of graphic design forums, so I'm not very good at this. Nevertheless, I would like to recommend some things to judge on if you guys don't already have some stuff.

Example 1

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds

4t3h8g.png

*Rule of thirds - wolverine slightly off center for more dramatic effect,

*The focal point is wolverine. The text and lighting do not draw your eye way away from wolverine - good flow. You don't want a whole bunch of focal points spread around in the sig everywhere. You want focus.

*look at wolverine's back. The artist of the sig blurred wolverine's back to give perspective. That and the added effect on the claws to make them pop out make wolverine look vicious. 10/10 sig.

Example 2

*Blending. Blend it all together. It's not supposed to look like a picture placed on top of another picture. That looks amateur or lazy.

*People always yapped at me for trying to make fancy text. If your sig includes text, you want your text to be very readable to anyone. No crazy fonts no faded text. It needs to always be readable.

Example 3

*IGN on the license plate, cool touch huh? Text is easily readable. You have your effects all flowing with the car - FLOW. no bright lights or text making you look away from the car -the focus is all towards the car (focal point).

Example 4

*if you have your rectangle shape signature then you have a render that you want to make pop out of the box (like an arm or wing or whatever), you always want to make sure that you finish the shape. Don't cut it off. Lke here with the hand - let it p0p OuT. :) I'm not 100% sure why, but I had a friend that did graphic design for a living tell me that. If you think about it, cutting it off after you pop it out does kind of defeat the effect you are going for. You are saying it's not constrained in the box by popping it out then you constrain the render anyways by cutting it off - self defeating I think, don't cut off renders like that, resize them if you have to.

_______________

Okay so my favorite graphic design communities unfortunately died out literally years ago and I'm having to dig deep to remember anything worth writing. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.  I think a 5/10 sig with some form of simple animation will beat a 8/10 sig without animation in PokeMMO forums. You all seem so animation hungry, lol. Still, good luck to everyone. I always like looking at art contests.

3. Entries must contain the user's IGN.

4. Do not include any text on the signature.

Hi! Could you clarify these points? Should the signature image contain ONLY IGN (but no team tag no quotes etc)? Or is it like the signature should have not a single letter at all and the IGN should be in post where you submit your entry?

No, something like this.

IGN: Inarin

Submission:

I think it would be better to have the users IGN and possibly the pokemon's name as well. For two main reasons, (1) having my username on my signature would prevent (kinda) other people from using it without my permission, (2) text usage, placement, and etc is an important part of signature design. Just my 2 cents, but I will submit to this regardless.
