Altering Cave is a mysterious cave that appears in both the Kanto and Hoenn Region. Currently features for Hoenn's Altering Cave are not implemented and it has a 100% encounter rate of Zubat. Altering Cave runs on cycles, each cycle you have a chance to catch a different set of Pokemon. It is a great chance to fill up your Pokedex easily in one place!

PokeMMO Cycles is a great website to bookmark so that you can keep up with the cycles in game. Please be aware that depending on the time of the year it may be an hour off because of daylight savings. Note: This is a player made website, not an official one.

Edit : The site may be wrong since last update. You may have to figure the current Cycle yourself. Each Cycle is 6 IRL hours.

What are Swarms?

Swarms are a limited period of time where a Pokemon can be caught outside of it's usual encounter spot and/or at a higher encounter rate. You will be able to catch some of the harder to obtain Pokemon a little more easily if a swarm of them appears. Swarms were recently reworked in the 2015 update so current durations of swarms and what Pokemon appear in swarms are currently unknown. If you find a swarm please post in this thread with screenshot proof.

How to tell if there is a Swarm?

Swarms are announced on the televisions in NPC houses.

Can you catch a shiny in a Swarm?

Yes this is entirely possible

As promised, a fully updated version of the Pokemon locations guide. When trying to update the old one, I realised that with a whole new region there was just way too much information to add so I decided to split it into locations. Feel free to let me know anything I have missed and please let me know if you spot a swarm on the TV (preferably with a screenshot!) I hope this is helpful for you all in some way!

I love the guide. It was worth the wait. Thanks to all of those that were involved in hunting everything down and getting this all put together!

Now, if we could have the devs update the "H" Frequently Asked Questions to link to this, and move that question to the top of there (instead of the middle where it is now),. and we'll be set.

Edit: Before, I had used this spot to point out a few things I had noticed that were left out. Since they were remedied, I'll post this here for reference.

Also, I've found fossils on Nosepass in Granite Cave so the Fossil locations could be updated unless they ninja'd it.

Day/Night Trades on Cinnabar Island don't line up, unless there are trades that pop at night?

Also:

Dragon Fang - Dratini , Dragonair , Bagon , Shelgon

What???

According to Darkshade the fangs can be found on those four Pokemon.

Also I will have to investigate the Nosepass fossil thing- do you happen to have a screenshot?

I don't want to embed a youtube video, but I took one of everything I was hunting for proof, two weeks ago when I was looking for all the new stuff. Try google'ing the following search critera:

PokeMMO Nosepass with Fossil

The first result should be the video I uploaded of finding a Root Fossil on a Nosepass.

As you can see, my Smeargle had nothing on him and switched items with the Nosepass.

Edit: Also, you forgot the Kanto Wilderness area: Cerulean Cave

200_s.gif

Another Edit. Metal Coat locations under Held Items - Type Enhancing Items. All I know of is Magnemite though.

Another Edit: Miltanks come with Healing Item Moomoo Milk (very highly if not 100%)

Incredible Guide! Love the new organization! Reserving for anything I might stumble onto! :)

Edit* Just noticed you don't have Shuckle down for Claw & Root Fossil. Having found 3-4 of each on them, I can confirm this.

Added the Cerulean Cave swarms and the held item information for Shuckle and Nosepass.

You forgot to add Treasure Beach, but aside from that, well done! This is really nice and helpful guide.

EDIT: You can get Horsea by trading Bagon in Pacifidlog Town.

EDIT 2: Few typos:

- Lavander -> Lavender

- Water Labrinth -> Water Labyrinth

- Primape -> Primeape (Route 23)

- Magma -> Magmar (Mt. Ember)

- Kangaskahn -> Kangaskhan (Fuchsia City Safari Zone)

- Taurus -> Tauros (Fuchsia City Safari Zone)

And there are some double Tentacool (Route 115 and 118) and Magikarp (Route 118).

EDIT 3: You missed one Snorlax, on Route 12.

Very nice guide. But I think that there could be some improvements at certain fields.

As an example, for the Held Items field, you should put a location for pokemon who's holding the Item.

I mean, Magma Hideout Gravelers/geodudes, doesn't wear fossils, And I haven't stole any Item from them (like everstones, or hard rocks) yet (100 of them by now) Which means, that depending on the location, pokemons could have or not Items.

It's perfectly possible, because of the way that pokemons are placed into the game. Years ago, I use to use Poke Map editor, So I can make my own pokemon games from original ones. And of course, you can place pokemons everywhere you want, but, depending on locations, you could change held items, so that, a Rock tunnel graveler could have hard stone, and a ceruelan cave one, doesnt.

needs to be more accurate regarding the swarm duration and appearance after another one

EDIT: There is already an existing thread about swarm, there is no need to polute this one/deem unusefull the other thread (https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/33024-confirming-swarms-new-pokemon-so-far-makuhita)
EDIT: It would be usefull to announce which NPC houses have TV's (its actually easier to list that those which don't)

Swarms have been completely reworked in the new update, so all those encounters/locations are now void as far as I am aware. I'm not sure if this also means the durations of swarms ect. I will ask Darkshade if he will make a post about it here.

Thank you all for pointing out things I have missed, I will update the guide tonight!
