In-Depth Hidden Power Trends

with Type Deduction Method

My Hidden Power Type Deduction Method

This method can be done within the proximity of Mt. Moon, and Route 3; I picked this location because it's easily accessible, and the wild Pokemon are relatively common and weak.

To deduce the type, connect the Hidden Power attack on the necessary Pokemon step-by-step, and watch for attack effectiveness; then you can run from the battle, defeat the Pokemon with just that one move or another move, or do a double check. Also, there is a misconception that critical hits can help deduce types, but it does not help deduce types whatsoever.

Step 1 deducible types: Water, Electric, Ice, Poison, Ground, Psychic, Bug, Rock, and Steel
Zubat: Poison/Flying (Mt. Moon)

Super effective: Electric, Ice, Psychic, or Rock

Normal effectiveness: Fire, Water, Flying, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, or Steel

Not very effective: Grass, Fighting, Poison, or Bug

No effect: Ground

Geodude: Ground/Rock (Mt. Moon: may appear less, but still likely to find them)

Super effective: Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Ground, or Steel

Normal effectiveness: Psychic, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, or Dark

Not very effective: Fire, Poison, Flying, or Rock

No effect: Electric

Paras: Grass/Bug (in Mt. Moon near the Route 3 entrance, there's a ladder that leads into another area where Paras appear 100%)

Super effective: Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug, or Rock

Normal effectiveness: Psychic, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, or Steel

Not very effective: Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, or Ground
Step 2 deducible types: Fire, Grass, Fighting, Flying, Ghost, Dragon, and Dark
Do not skip step 1 or you may deduce an incorrect type.

Mankey: Fighting (Route 3: may appear less during night time so you can battle a Slowpoke (Water/Psychic) instead at the Viridian City Pool - Surf (50%) or Super Rod (5%): Dark is super effective, Dragon and Flying has normal effectiveness, and Fire is not very effective)

Super effective: Flying

Normal effectiveness: Fire, Grass, Fighting, Ghost, or Dragon

Not very effective: Dark

Jigglypuff, Rattata, or Clefairy: Normal (Route 3)

Super effective: Fighting

Normal effectiveness: Fire, Grass, Flying, Dragon, or Dark

No effect: Ghost

Pidgey or Spearow: Normal/Flying (Route 3)

Normal effectiveness: Fire, Fighting, Flying, Dragon, or Dark

Not very effective: Grass

No effect: Ghost

Nidoran also appears in Route 3, but it doesn't help deduce as much compared to the other Pokemon within Step 2.

If it is all normal effectiveness on these Pokemon specifically, it is Dragon.
Calculating Hidden Power Type

If an Individual Value is odd, replace the type variable with 1.

If the IV is even, replace the type variable with 0.

Innate Hidden Power type value = ( a ) + 2( b ) + 4( c ) + 8( d ) + 16( e ) + 32( f ) = 0-63

f - Special Defense

e - Special Attack

d - Speed

c - Defense

b - Attack

a - HP

Every Pokemon has an innate Hidden Power type value from 0 to 63, and the table below can determine the Hidden Power type.

Do not conclude that 0 is the worst and 63 is the best as each type value is as valid to the beholding Pokemon.

Also according specifically to this game, Hidden Power is always Special, and the base power is always 70.

0-4          Fighting

5-8          Flying

9-12        Poison

13-16      Ground

17-20      Rock

21-25      Bug

26-29      Ghost

30-33      Steel

34-37      Fire

38-41      Water

42-46      Grass

47-50      Electric

51-54      Psychic

55-58      Ice

59-62      Dragon

63           Dark

Hidden Power Trends

Standard Type Trends
Dark should be the least common Hidden Power type at 1.56%, and Fighting, Bug, and Grass should be the most common types at 7.81% while every other type is at 6.25%.
Special Defense (Physical/Special) Trends (Outmoded)
According to the January 2015 update, there is no longer a Physical trend for Hidden Power. Before the update, if a Pokemon had an odd Special Defense IV, the Hidden Power type was most likely Special. If a Pokemon had an even Special Defense IV, the type was most likely Physical. The only exception to this was Steel (it was Physical but it would have a 50/50 chance of a Special Defense IV).
Physical Type Percentage Trends (Outmoded
According to the January 2015 update, there is no longer a Physical trend for Hidden Power.

Before the update though,

Special Defense: 2/34 = 5.88%

Special Attack: 16/34 = 47.1%

Speed: 16/34 = 47.1%

Defense: 14/34 = 41.2%

Attack: 16/34 = 47.1%

HP: 17/34 = 50%

Odd: 83/204 = 40.7%

Even: 121/204 = 59.3%
Special Type Percentage Trends (Outmoded
According to the January 2015 update, there is no longer a Physical trend for Hidden Power.

Before the update though,

Special Defense: 30/30 = 100% = Odd

Special Attack: 16/30 = 53.3%

Speed: 16/30 = 53.3%

Defense: 16/30 = 53.3%

Attack: 16/30 = 53.3%

HP: 15/30 = 50%

Odd: 109/180 = 60.6%

Even: 66/180 = 39.4%
HP, Attack, and Defense Trends
Through trends, there is almost no certainty to determine a Pokemon's Hidden Power type through HP, Attack, or Defense as odd IVs range from 25-75%, never 0% or 100% (excluding Dark type).
Special Defense, Special Attack, and Speed Trends
Through trends, a Pokemon's Hidden Power type is mostly determined through Special Defense, Special Attack, and Speed as all the types has an IV that is either 0% or 100% odd (excluding Steel type).
Types Favoring Odd IV Trends
Hidden Power types that favor odd IVs from least to greatest: Fighting (16.7%), Flying (33.3%), Poison and Rock (37.5%), Fire (41.7%), Ground (45.8%), Bug, Steel, and Water (50%), Electric (54.2%), Ghost (58.3%), Grass (60%), Psychic (62.5%), Ice (66.7%), Dragon (79.2%), and Dark (100%).
4x31 Trends
If there is a Pokemon with 4x31 IVs, the Hidden Power type must be either Ground (15), Bug (23), Ghost (27 or 29), Steel (30 or 31), Water (39), Grass (43, 45, or 46), Electric (47), Psychic (51, 53, or 54), Ice (55, 57, or 58), Dragon (59, 60, 61, or 62), or Dark (63). So if there is a claim of a 4x31, check if it has either of these Hidden Power types.
5x31 Trends
If there is a Pokemon with 5x31 IVs, the Hidden Power type must be either Steel (31), Electric (47), Ice (55), Dragon (59, 61, or 62), or Dark (63). So if there is a claim of a 5x31, check if it has either of these Hidden Power types.
6x31 Trends
A Pokemon with 6x31 IVs must have the Dark Hidden Power type (63). So if there's a Pokemon with Hidden Power that could have 6x31, check if it has that type (Dark is super effective against Psychic and Ghost, and not very effective against Fighting, Dark, and Steel).
Overall Percentage Trends
Special Defense: 32/64 = 50%

Special Attack: 32/64 = 50%

Speed: 32/64 = 50%

Defense: 32/64 = 50%

Lavender Town's Hidden Power Psychic
If however you can not use the above methods to discover the Hidden Power type, you can go to the Lavender Town's psychic on the first floor of the Pokemon Tower near the North wall, though you will need a Star Piece or 2 Stardusts as payment for him to detect the type.

A wild Staryu has a 5% chance of it holding a Star Piece, and 50% chance of it holding a Stardust; you can fish for them at either Pallet Town, Cinnabar Island, Vermilion City, One Island, Five Island, or Icefall Cave with a Super Rod.

Once you have paid the psychic, he will detect the type, and it will show the type in the Pokemon's moves tab of its info window.

(Although the psychic claims to be one, I'm pretty sure he also uses this thread for his Hidden Power reference. :P)
I have a friend that asked me for Grass HP on a Pokemon she wanted from me. I didn't know the chances of getting Grass HP so I made my own trends, and I hope it can help other players as well.

As for Grass, I need to have an odd IV in Special Defence. If it was 0%, it can't be an odd value.

Also, the chances of getting a Grass HP is 7.81% which is pretty good compared to other types.

Grass 5/64 = 7.81%

Special Defence = 100%
Special Attack = 0%
Speed = 100%
Defence = 60%
Attack = 60%
HP = 40%
