freds random fact of the day.

their is a new security exploit to just about every internet of things device in existence. it is called devils ivy and it allows just about anything if done right. completely re image and root access. according to several security camera companies it affects all or nearly all of their devices. literally millions of devices, not individual devices but millions of product sku's and billions if not trillions of devices. update your firmware and keep and eye out for updates in the coming weeks and months. you can also put your whole network behind a firewall(pfsense #1) or keep the devices on a separate network with no internet and no wifi/bluetooth active. biggest problem for you the user is once a hacker takes over one device on your network he can hit everything and will succeed given time inevitably. the bigger problem for everyone else is that once these get rooted, a lot of hacker will make sure they work fine so you dont notice, then add them to the bot net. if a single hacker exploited all of these devices (which wont happen) he/she could take down every site on earth with a massive ddos. realistically many hackers will take a few thousand or million devices each and ddos a few thousand sites and at this point even if every manufacture pushes a fix(lol) most users wont update.

TL:DR internet of shit is shit and will cause problems for everyone.

A business day is like 8 hours for most companies, unless your company opens 24/7. A business week is 40 hours. A business month is 160 hours. Now if you divide 160 by 24, you get 6.667, so a business month is roughly a bit short of a week.

TL;DR It's science; I ain't gotta explain shit.

freds random fact of the day.

their is a new type of filter that can remove heavy metals and shit from water better then anything else ever. further more it's cleanable easily and cheap. tl;dr this could fix flint michigain overnight without replacing anything at all and keeping all the lead pipes. once this gets mass produced it will kill off heavy metal poisoning overnight. furthermore you can use this to filter out waste water from cola plants and other industrial waste and keep the rivers and streams clean.

nobody gives a shit they just want clean water and this can be made and deployed by novices with a youtube how to in every 3rd world country cheaper then the cost of shipping.

Super neat, can't wait to see it being used all over the world. What they're going to do with the used up filter/used up vinegar though? Can the metals be extracted back from the filter/used up vinegar?

On a related science-y note, a bit of an old news, but wax worms are being developed to eat our plastic trash.

And a bit of fun

yes, the metals will be floating free in the liquid and you can use magnets and electrolysis to seperate the individual metals and shit and many of them are valuable and can be used in things like electronics and batterys.

oh yea, freds random fact of the day

the voting machines used in 3 us presidential elections are extremely easy to hack. the password is "abcde" an unchangeable, along with numerous other problems. they took them apart at defcon this year and surprise surprise, nobody makes secure voting machines. some of the numerous flaws are 15+ year old exploits that they just never bothered to patch. tl;dr if you make anything electronic, have it pen tested repeatedly, and never put your trust in "no one will figure this out" because if hackers could figure out the epileptic curve exploit they will find anything.
