[Contest] You Wanna Write About It? A weekly writing competition!

Recommended Posts

Once upon a time, Siara decided to write a story in the third person. She also decided to submit it post-deadline. For funsies.
Siara wrung the sweat from her palms. One. Two. Three. Pull. Pull. Pull. It always went this way--Insert coins, pull. Repeat until penniless. She bit her lip. Down to her last few coins. Again.

Team Rocket had rigged these slots, she was sure of it. She couldn't prove it of course--but it was so addicting; The lights, the sounds, the promise of riches untold.

One coin at a time. Click. "A seven," she thought, "Deep breaths now. Pull the lever again, girl."

Click. "A Psyduck? No way!!!"

"Shhh," scolded the nearby patrons.

She shrunk in her seat. One last coin. Her hand trembled before pulling the lever-- No. She needed something different. She needed a change of--Of course! She ripped open her bag and dug for her Lucky Egg. She rubbed it, chanting, "Numi, numi, numi." She was feeling luckier already. Numbers flashed in her head. The same thing happened when she was winning a duel.

She glanced around. No security cameras, and the attendants look glassy-eyed. In fact, half of the patrons did, too. She coughed out, "Blissey, I choose you," and quietly dropped a Safari Ball to the floor.

"Blissey!" it exclaimed, happy and noisy as could be. "Blissey!!!"

"Shhhh!" Sia tried to cover its mouth. Everyone looked her way. She threw up her hands and blurted, "Dropped my Pokeball! Silly me!" As she pretended to shuffle things back into her handbag, they lost interest. Situation diffused! "I need you to pull the lever, Blissey," she whispered, "can you do that?"

"Blissey?" it whispered, confused as a Spinda.

Sia rolled up her sleeves. It was up to her now. She bumped Blissey hard and it stumbled into the lever. Click! "Seven, yes!" She was pumped. So pumped. "Double-punch combo!" Blissey took it like a champ. Click, click! "Triple sevens, oh my Arceus," she exclaimed, falling to her knees. The jackpot bell sounded. Pokeyen signs filled her eyes. Again! "One. Two. Three. Triple-punch combo!"

"BLISSEY! BLISSEY!!!" it wailed.

Click, click, click! Click, click, click!

Alarms blared, the fire sprinklers went off, and everyone that was not a glassy-eyed zombie beelined for the exit.

Meanwhile, a bruised and somewhat dizzy Blissey rubbed at its side. Sia snatched the Safari Ball. "Return," she said. Blissey vanished in a skitter of light.

Team Rocket rushed in through the far northeast wall with a gaggle of Wheezings, Arboks and Ratticates in tow. But to their amazement, she vanished.

"They'll never find me in channel 8. Hue hue hue." Giddy, she ran next door. So many things she could exchange for. So many things. TMs? New hats? No. A Mysery Box! Maybe it'll have lots of TMs, she thought.

"HELLO-MISS-WOULD-YOU-LIKE-TO-EXCHANGE-YOUR-COINS-HERE?"

There was something fishy about the clerks in Celadon. But she digressed and pointed out the Mystery Package.

"HAVE-A-NICE-DAY. HUE. HUE."

She hugged the mystery box. Licked it. Hissed at people who walked too close by. "It's minesies!"

But before too long, Team Rocket showed up at the door. "Put that back, you didn't earn it," said one. Another cried, "Yeah, we're the only ones who get to cheat around here."

"Nonsense," countered Sia. "My Blissey won this fair and square."

"You're surrounded," countered the leader. "You can't escape, little girl."

"THEY-ARE-RIGHT. PLEASE-RETURN-THE-PACKAGE. HUE. HUE."

Defiant, Sia pushed the button. Currency poured from the box like water bursting through a dam.

They were all carried outside the building in the torrent of money. For some reason the Team Rocket members went soaring off into space.

"People of Celadon," she announced atop her pile of moolah, "today I bring back the wealth in which Team Rocket has stolen. Today, I liberate you of a corrupt casino. Today, I bring you ... One-hundred-million dollars."

But no one heard her since she was on channel eight.

*blush* Thank you! I really enjoyed reading your entries! I need to go back and 'like' them.

In fact, there's a lot of great stories here and I read every one. Love to read and write, but I have college courses starting soon and time will be short :c

Ahhh crap, my kickball team lost in the playoffs last night and I decided to drown my sorrows afterwards, completely forgetting about my promise. This is why ETAs are a bad idea, right? I'll finish things up asap
But on the other hand, my team , Manchester United, won the preseason ICC cup in America!

Edit: double post don't care

Oh I'm sure you could find plenty of clips from Roma's preseason alone to make me feel crappy

I'm primarily an AS Roma fan.... I like to remain objective in the Premier league so I don't have a favorite there

"WEEK 2" RESULTS!

At long last, I have quit being a lazy P.O.S. and finished up my scoring of the entries. Without further hesitation, here are the top entries from week 2:

Honorable mention: Eggplant (Combined score: 7.75)

Eggplant delivered a really funny story that mixed the pokemon world with the pokemmo we all know and love (to hate). Unfortunately, the story was taken down by an unknown staff member who doesn't understand what the phrase "fictional writing" means. If anyone would like to read this story, PM me and I will send it to you (if you're ok with this, eggplant).

I am not a big fan of censorship, and I honestly thought about asking for this thread to be deleted due to the actions of staff with regard to this one. But why punish everyone who enjoys the thread and entries for the actions of one misguided staff member?

Tied for 2nd place: Noadhunter and Ploegy (Combined scores: 8.25)

Noad and Ploegy both put forth fantastic entries this week, and what Think and I enjoyed most about them was their ability to build a solid story surrounding the topic itself. While some entries were just a continuation of the topic, both Noad and Plo managed to pack depth and action into such a short word limit, which is really an impressive accomplishment. Each of these writers is a threat to take home the prize every single week I put out a new topic.

First Place: Feravyne (Combined score: 9)

What can I say? This story was really hard to score, as I found myself immersed within it rather than objectively evaluating it. I strained to even find one single grammatical error. Fera's writing style is impeccable, and I can't wait to see what she's capable of with a larger word limit. So congratulations again, Fera, and whisper me in game to collect your prize(s).

With that, we have 2 new Masters invites going out. Because Fera already has one, they'll go to Ploegy and Noadhunter, bringing the total master invitations to 3. I promise, I still have plans to do this, but first, we have the "week 3" topic, which I'll post in the OP of this thread shortly! Thanks again everyone, and I really appreciate the patience. It's been a busy last couple of weeks, but I'm still taking this thread seriously, and I don't plan to quit anytime soon!

Once again, PM me if you want commentary on your entry...I wrote extensive notes on everyone's entry once again, and would be happy to provide the feedback!
