Introduction; The PokeMMO Super League
Welcome, to maybe the most competitive experience you will ever experience in your life time experience of PokeMMO. The PokeMMO Super League (or in short PSL) is a league where the best players clash against each other as their lazy ass managers sit back and enjoy the slaughter. Managers get appointed and set together their own team by buying players, which manager will be able to put together the champions of the second season of PSL?

The FAQ section can be found at the end of this post.

Managers:
Managers are sort of the team leaders of their teams. Managers handle the team finances and appoint their players to their battles each week. As a manager you have the responsibility of the whole team on you, if something were to happen, you are held responsible for that.

As a manager your most important role is (surprise, surprise) managing your team and also putting a team of players together. As a manager you will get 100.000cr at the beginning of a season. With these credits you can bid on players to try and get them in your team. More on this later.

Once you got enough players for your team you’ll assign players to their battles of the upcoming week. You PM me with the list example:

NlCEGUY – OU
LeGaryOak – UU
Amanu – Doubles
Etc, etc.

As a manager you can not participate in battles yourself. Also, once you are assigned a manager you should come up with a teamname that will carry through the whole season.

Note that I will handpick managers from the sign up thread, it’s not on first come first serve basis. This is because managers are a vital part of the competition and I need to be sure that managers are players that will stay fairly active through the season.

The Auction and player sign ups:
After the managers are appointed it’s time for players to sign up. The sign up format looks like this:

IGN: Archinix
Roles/Tiers: UU, NU, ADV OU
Timezone: EST

After all the sign ups are done I will make a thread with every player that signed up listed, the auction may begin! The minimum bid on any player will be 2.000cr, the minimum raise on an existing bid will be 250cr. So you can only raise by: 250, 500, 750, 1.250cr etc. This is to prevent annoying 1cr raises and other bullcrap.

Obviously only managers can bid on players. The auction will last for about a week, if by that time some managers still don’t have enough players there will be additional time. As a player you don’t get to choose for which manager you want to play, the manager that has the highest bid on you will ‘own’ you and you’ll play for them, like some sort of contract. The auction will look like this:

Amanu – Current highest bid: Team Wafflebusters 12.000cr
Fujimura – Current highest bid: Team Sausage 5.000cr
Marsus – Current highest bid: Team Parasect Overlords 5.250cr
Felixxx – Current highest bid: -
MsMayl – Current highest bid: Team NotSoSmart 25.000cr

Managers can raise their bids by posting in the appropriate thread. So for example if the manager of team Parasect Overlords posts in the thread with: 5500 on Fujimura I will update the thread accordingly:

Amanu – Current highest bid: Team Wafflebusters 12.000cr
Fujimura – Current highest bid: Team Parasect Overlords 5.500cr
Marsus – Current highest bid: Team Parasect Overlords 5.250cr
Felixxx – Current highest bid: -
MsMayl – Current highest bid: Team NotSoSmart 25.000cr

Just remember as a manager you only have 100.000cr to get your team together. Also remember you might want to have some extra players in case some of your ‘main team’ can’t make it for a specific week.]

Here is the first auction thread so you can see how it goes.

The format:
Again it will depend on the sign ups. You can expect these formats though:

- PokeMMO OU

- PokeMMO UU

- PokeMMO NU

- PokeMMO Doubles

- ADV OU

- X/Y OU

PokeMMO Little Cup may happen. This depends on the update's support on the LC tier, the popularity/demand. And of course how quickly people can prepare LC Pokémon.

Updated: Regarding Sportsmanship:
You will respect your teammates and above all you will respect your manager. If you got drafted by a manager you don't like or want you will have to put these feelings aside. Signing up is like signing a contract, and these are conditions you have to accept. Disobeying your PSL duties will result in blacklisting.

It’s fine to have a little bit of drama, in fact in can make the whole PSL experience more enjoyable. Don’t push it though and please refrain from flaming excessively. Try to keep interaction on a human level so we can all avoid large scale drama’s. Picking on players is fine as long as it doesn’t turn in to harassment.
Regarding ‘coaching’ or ‘ghosting’:
To all managers and players I would like to say please refrain from coaching someone or how some like to call it ‘ghosting’ matches. As a manager or a team member you should have confidence in the ability of your teammate. As a player standing from the sidelines you should have respect for a player’s ability.
Helping with practicing is absolutely fine and helping with teambuilding is also good, in fact I would encourage these activities. The grey area is telling what an opponent’s Pokémon set could be or what a player should watch out for. Some battlers find this irritating as it can ruin the surprises but some are fine with it.
Regarding getting your battles done:
This is largely in the players’ hands and there is not much to do about it. I can however try to award the player that is actively trying to get his match done as opposed to neglecting someone’s effort. Follow these guidelines to get your battle done in time or to at least secure a victory for your team in case of player inactivity.

Every week will have a separate thread with in it the week's match-ups and including a deadline for that week's matches.

Within 48 hours after the Weekly Match-Ups are posted:

 • PM your opponent with at least 3 different time ranges you will be available, at least 2 must be at least 24 hours apart.
 • Post in the thread stating that you have contacted your opponent.
 • If neither opponent does this: you risk a substitution (getting put out of a team due to inactivity) or a no-contest match. Don't risk yourself or your own team.

Within 72 hours after the Weekly Match-Ups are posted:

 • Respond to your opponent either agreeing to one of the proposed times or, if none of them work for you, respond with at least 3 time ranges that will work for you
 • When a time is agreed on, post in the weekly thread with the time of the battle
 • If you do not respond before the 72 hour limit: you must still respond 48 hours before the deadline.

48 Hours before the Weekly Deadline:

 • If neither opponent has PM'd with a time: The match is considered no-contest and does not count for either team.
 • If your opponent responds but doesn't do that within 72 hours of the Weekly Match-Ups are posted you are required to respond in 24 hours. You may accept the times given by your opponent or give 3+ new times that your opponent has to accept.
 • If one opponent PM'd within the timeframe and did not receive a response from the other player: The player who did not respond forfeits the match. It is a Win for the player who sent a PM and a Loss for the player who failed to respond.

Of course after the battle is done report in the weekly thread that you won or lost w/e.

Huge thanks to Imgur for summarizing it in a clearer way and to Aldaron from Smogon for the system.
Updated: Regarding usage statistics:
Giving usage stats will be followed more strictly now:

- Not giving Usage stats in a week will result in a yellow card.

- A second yellow card will result in a red card.

- A red card means you can't be play for 2 weeks. After these weeks you are down to 1 yellow card again.

- I won't PM you as a reminder to give me your team.

- If your opponent PMs me your team, I'll most likely add you to the conversation.

Usage statistics are just a part of the PSL and as you signed up you agreed to the terms. I have to know the six Pokémon you used for whichever week so I can add it to the statistics. Now you can give me your team before or after your battle has been done. As I am a neutral party and absolutely unbiased I can promise you your team will not be exposed. If you already know which six Pokémon you are going to use I would advise you to PM me your team beforehand in case you forget. I will be participating in this one.

In case you already battled you can still PM me but it’s also fine to state your team in the weekly thread. Whichever suits your biscuit best. If I don’t get a team from a player I will notify the manager of that player, if the player still neglects to do so I may give him a penalty (not being able to play matches for x weeks) or even substitution.
Regarding ADV OU and X/Y OU:
3rd gen OU, or ADV OU, like it's generally called is the 'complete' third gen meta. This means it follows the smogon rules for ADV OU. The list of OU Pokémon according to smogon can be found here, borderline, UU. Of course the third gen meta is not available on PokeMMO this is why these specific matches are played on Showdown.

Choose the correct format:
Make your team:
7EdtH.jpg
Note: Showdown shows all moves possible in all gens, however you can't use moves like Bullet Punch or Reversal on Dugtrio because they are not part the ADV OU meta.

When challenging your opponent to a battle agree upon a time and a 'lobby' find your opponent and challenge him, choose the right format (3rd gen OU) and click challenge.

Any more questions may be asked in this thread do no sign up in this thread, let the boasting (and discussion) begin!

FAQ:
What are credits, do you mean ingame money?
No, credits are just a fake currency in which we'll be working with in the PSL.

How do I become a manager?

As previously stated, a manager has a big role in the entire competition. Active managers can be the thing that keeps a team on top. You could say a manger's most important task is strategically drafting players and putting together a dynamic team. But even after the draft you have to keep tabs on your players, do they do well in their format? Do they need a week off to make a better team? Is one going on a trip for 2 weeks? These are all things to consider during the league stages of the PSL. So communication with your players is the key to success.

Because this is such an important task, I'll handpick managers myself. When you are thinking about applying as a manager consider this:

- Can I stay active through the whole season?

- Can I communicate well with my players?

- Can I handle team finances?

- Can I keep an eye on my players and those of the opponent

- Do I have knowledge of the competitive scene and the players?

- Will I keep interest, even when I'm on the losing side?

If you can answer yes to all this questions it's pretty safe to sign up as a manager. However, it doesn't mean you will be picked. I'll generally pick players I know better faster than players I don't know at all. As long as I know these players can handle the manager status. If you are a somewhat regular forum poster, I'll probably recognize you and that will give you a better shot as well. Try to have the best motivation for being a manager and I might be impressed. I won't take applications with 1 or 2 lines seriously.

Here are two applications from the previous sign ups that make me consider you:
IGN: ImguridianCity

Motivation:

I like games, particularly the strategy aspect. As much as I love battling, team management would be more fun for me. I like demanding games that require constant attention and dedication.

Experience:

I'm a big fan of fantasy football, even though I have zero interest in football itself. I was in 3 different fantasy leagues last season, and I only actually watched one of the games. Instead on gamedays I kept my browser open to the league pages to watch how the points played out. In all 3 leagues I was the most active team manager, and in one I was the only person to initiate any successful trades.

In PokeMMO, I've only been playing since November, but I've racked up over 1200 hours since then. I spend most of my time breeding and theorymoning with teammates, but I do attend most of the official tournaments. I spectate on a lot of the PokeDailies, although I've only actually participated in a few. I play a lot of Random on SD, but I've played some Gen3 as well.

I'm a big no-lifer and I'm going to put way too much time into this for sure.

Edit: Also I do have the X-Factor.

IGN: VatsugZ

Motivation: I love competition. I want this to succeed. Turtles can sleep under water for 5 hours

Experience: I've done it in the kitchen, living-room, stairs, roof, hanging from the chandelier and most other places you can imagine. Played PokeMMO, that is.

First of all, according to a former teammate I'm a "power hungry vampire pig" and I "party with uguus". That should leave out any doubt about my manager-qualifications. For a longer version, look below.

Less, but yes! I started the 3rd of January this year (2014), however, I've spent an unusual amount of time as I've pretty much been a no-lifer for 2 months. Waiting for a license, blah, blah..

I've played every day ever since, hosted a few spontaneous tournaments, won a few unofficial tournaments and a win-statistic of 1-1 in officials (fuck yuhh!).

I know the meta well in both OU and UU, as I work as a "counselor" for teammates. A nerdy conversation about team-building is just fun.

What makes me qualified? Don't ask my real life friends to vouch for this, but in the game I always show up for what I sign up for (on time). I'm often nocturnal. I work as an assistant-teacher (2nd grade), so I can deal with people. I'm honest and don't scam other than people who speaks no English, hence the reason I'm poor / not  a shiny trader.

What else? I'll win this shit and be crowned the prince of Norway. For more info about my road to become Dalai Lama, whisper me in game.

In the end I didn't choose VatsugZ as a manager, although I liked his application it was a bit too 'jolly'. There was also the fact that I didn't know much about him and I didn't want to take any risks in the first season. I've seen Imgur around and his application was very well written with a great motivation and also a great background, it made him an excellent candidate.
Here is how not to do it
IGN: Rigamorty

Motivation: Looks fun

Experience(?): I've been playing this game since 2012. I've been around the comp scene for the large majority of that time, and know most if not all the competitors in this game.

It's very short and doesn't tell me much. In the end Riga did become a manager because I knew him and I knew he would stick through the whole season. Basically Riga gets away with it because I know his traits. If I see far more impressive applications this season I'll probably give them a chance over applications like these, even if I know 'em.
How do I become a player in the PSL?

Sign up when the sign ups are open of course! Every team needs players, but once a team fills up they won't need more. What this means is that singing up won't guarantee that you actually will be playing, even if you sign up first. Managers will likely be players that know the competitive scene well. Meaning that accolades are an important asset. If you are a player that only plays in Viridian and never show up in tournaments, chances are managers will prefer players that show up in tournaments. (Exceptions to this rule are for example: Blonde (pls respond)).

Being an active forum member also helps, because subconsciously managers can be like 'hey I know this name..' and pick you above someone else. The easiest way is just to show up in tournaments (maybe win a round or two) and make good posts in competitive alley.

I missed player sign ups, what now?

There will be one more chance for you to sign up later on in the League Stages. Usually around week 4-5 of the league stages there will be mid season sign ups where managers have the option to buy additional players. Managers do have limited credits at this point, so it will be harder to get in if you miss the initial sign ups!

Manager: Can I bid something like 300cr over an existing bid?
No, you can only bid 250cr or 250 times 'x' credits over an existing bid.

More to be added.
