Rules for Client Customization - Read Before Posting!   04/30/16

1.) All global forum rules apply here, they can be seen here; http://forums.pokemm...-gameforumsirc/ 2.) If you're going to be negative, always give constructive criticism as to why you feel that way. Criticizing work just for the sake of criticizing it/being rude will result in your post being hidden. 3.) Only owners of the thread can double post, and the conditions for them doing so must be to display new customization(s). Try to make use of the edit button provided to you if you feel that you left something out. 4.) No going off topic, unless it is in some way related to the original post. Going off topic in a thread will result in your off topic posts being hidden/deleted. 5.) No request threads, if you wish to request a user make you something, PM them personally, or find a shop that fits the details of your wants. 6.) Do not post other people's work without permission, whether this be in a thread, or AS a thread. 7.) If you do use other people's work within your own, be sure to credit them for what they have done. 8.) Always keep thread titles accurate, and free of inappropriate language. Self-censored curse words will be considered as inappropriate. If a thread's title does not meet these guidelines it will be changed. 9.) Do not make threads, or post in threads asking how to customize, if you can't find a tutorial elsewhere, send a PM to someone in this section who may know. 10.) The only person who can "bump" a thread which has not been posted in for 3 weeks or longer is the original creator of the topic. Bumping another persons thread will likely result in your post being hidden/deleted. 11.) Please do not promote other websites, however linking to them as an example of work, or to show an already made customization is fine. 12.) Always provide a direct download link to every form of customization, if you fail to do so, your post will be removed. 13.) No ROM distribution, or talk on ROM distribution. Any posts discussing ROMs will be removed. 14.) All threads must be tagged appropriately. Look at any similar threads if you are not sure which tag to use, or consult me personally. The way in which you display a tag is not negotiable. They are as follows; [GUI] [iPS] [MOD] [Translation] [Tool] [Tutorial]   If a thread is missing a tag, or has been incorrectly tagged, it will be changed to match the content of the thread.

[Tutorial] Easy way to launch on Linux! AND Launching the game with Steam for Linux!

7 posts in this topic

So I've been trying to find a way to create a launcher (.desktop file) so I can launch the game without using the terminal and also to launch the game via Steam for Linux.  After countless errors I think I've figured it out. (I might redo the tutorial with pictures and more/better detail/instructions)
THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED ON Ubuntu 13.10 WITH openjdk7 INSTALLED AND Steam for Linux.
So first off what you'll need to do is make a central folder for the game, I used "/home/*yourusername*/Desktop/PokeMMO-Client".
!!!!Everywhere that you see *yourusername* put the username you use on your linux machine!!!!
Once you have your folder you'll need to open GEDIT (or any other text editor).
Within GEDIT add the following text:
cd /home/*yourusername*/Desktop/PokeMMO-Client
sh PokeMMO.sh
Save that file as "PokeMMOLaunch.sh" and make sure the file extension is .sh.
Tech Note: (Ok yes, having one sh file launch another sh file seems redundant but the game and java will both crash if you dont!)
Next open GEDIT again and add the following text:
[Desktop Entry]
Exec=sh /home/*yourusername*/Desktop/PokeMMO-Client/PokeMMOLaunch.sh
Icon=(Leave this blank unless you have a custom icon to use)
Save that file as "PokeMMO.desktop" and make sure the file extension is .desktop. (Sometimes you won't see the file extension once you've saved the file, this is perfectly normal.)
Now you can place the newly created PokeMMO.desktop file anywhere you'd like, to launch the game just double click the PokeMMO.desktop file.
Now if you want to be able to launch the game from steam you need to follow a few simple steps:
First, open steam and go to your game library.
Second, click on the "+ ADD A GAME..." text at the bottom of the screen.
Third, choose "Add a non-steam game..".
Fourth, click the "Browse..." button.
Fifth, find and select the PokeMMO.desktop file.
Sixth, click the "OPEN" button while PokeMMO.desktop is selected.
Seventh, click the "ADD SELECTED PROGRAMS" button.
Eighth, while in your game library right-click on PokeMMO and choose "Properties".
Ninth, set the Target as the path to your PokeMMO.desktop file and it must be in "s (quotation marks).
Tenth, set the Start In to the same path (Note: if this fails set it to your the path of your PokeMMO folder).
That's it! You can now launch PokeMMO from Steam and the Steam In-Game Overlay should work also!
Note that it may take a bit longer for the game to startup and load when you launch it from Steam.
Any and all feedback is appreciated!  I'd love to know how everyone else is playing it on linux!

I think the .deb installer is easier to use, but this sounds like a fast way to run PokeMMO on systems what don't support .deb extensions.

Its working on other distributions (since i was doing this on Mint and Kubuntu time ago).

I got a virus, help.

Try format your hard disk, and never turn on your PC again.

so, i'm curious to know how to get the .deb installer for it.  when i downloaded the client from the games homesite, all i got was a file titled pokeMMO.sh.   which, when i launched that (as per the instructions on the download page to run the game) it brought .par2 file.

"The application launcher "PokeMMO.desktop" has not been marked as trusted. If you do not know the source of this file, launching it may be unsafe."

How do I bypass this block?
