I have a non canon idea about items randomly spawning in towns across the map. There could be a system announcement to announce that an item has spawned in a town. Then it is up to the playerbase to find the item using the itemfinder, somewhere in the town. To make it worthwhile, the item would be something of reasonable value and use, e.g., an exp share, a rare tm, pp max, a lucky egg etc. They can occur at the same frequency as swarms or even once a day. The idea can go even further so that the first person to find the item (announced on system announcement) can recieve a small prize for being the first, or even receives two of the items that are spawned.
Pros:
Excitement generated in the game such as when a new swarm is announced.
