[Implemented] PvP Ranking System

Competitive Battling is starting to become big here on PokeMMO, but, we still do not have an official ranking system. I'm here to suggest a complete ranking system which will be used for all players and maybe even in the future, teams.

To implement this ranking system, I would need complete compliance with the staff in using this ranking system, as it involves the forums heavily. The good thing is that no work has to be done on the server itself, allowing for the coders to work on more important aspects of the game itself.

So, I introduce to you....

"The PokeMMO Trainer's League"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Registration:
To begin, all trainers who wish to battle competitively must be registered on the forums. This will allow the tracking of users' wins and losses much more efficiently.
All trainers will begin in "F-Class". This is the lowest class in the ranking system seen here:
There are two different ways to increase your ranking within the "Basic Classes", these are seen here:
  • Win 3 consecutive battles against trainers of same class
  • Win 1 battle against a higher ranked trainer
To organize a ranked battle, trainer must use the following method(s):
  • Posting a Notice on the "Competitive Alley" Sub-forum that you are looking for challengers
  • Replying to another trainers posting
Also, trainers who lose 3 consecutive battles will also rank down in class if they're higher than F-Class. All battles must be reported to the "Competitive Alley" sub-forum, for them to count as a victory for the trainer to Rank up. Also Video Recording or taking pictures of your battle is highly recommended so that any disputes or complaints can be argued with evidence. The implementation of video recordings and pictures also allows new trainers to see what battling in the league is like!
Player's can only reach "C-class" based on wins alone. To be entered into the advanced classes of B, A, and Special-A, you must have participated in a total of 50 battles while you are currently in C-class.
To advance from B>A>Special-A, players will have to use the following methods:
  • Win five (5) consecutive battles against trainers of same class
  • Win ten (10) consecutive battles against trainers of the class immediately below you
  • Defeat a trainer who is ranked higher than you
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"PokeMMO Player's League Championship"

There is a reason why trainers aspire to become at least "B-Class". Those who are, and ranked higher, are eligible to enter in the biggest tournament of the year, with Pokemon, and potentially money up for grabs.

The tournament would be open to any and all who are "B-Class" and above.

There will be rules/guidelines, but those would be detailed at a later time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Having an official ranking system would be beneficial for the game, and the players as a whole. It would allow tournaments to run efficiently and smoothly, while creating a pro-active competitive scene with set-goals in mind.
Any questions? Post here.
This may work for now but it will be a headache to organize and keep up with until such things as matchmaking and an ELO rating system are implemented.
And restricting the entry requirements for some tournaments may work for the super serious PvPers, but there will always be unrestricted ones that might have better prizes for the casual PvPers.
And then theres always the possibility of people throwing games for their friends with alt accounts.
All in all it sounds good for the number of PvPers we have now, but if that group grows too much it may become too hard to organize.
I'm going to tackle your thoughts one by one, so bare with me.
This is something I thought about. It does weed out a majority of players, but in effect, makes strain on the organizers and the competitors themselves much easier.
Also, it gives players something to strive for. Why play in that tournament that is giving away 4 or 5 decent pokemon, when I could win a shiny and actual money if I train on and off for a week or two. This is the big-leagues, and as such should be treated like them.
And then theres always the possibility of people throwing games for their friends with alt accounts.
That is an issue, but that is why the rank system itself doesn't reward players with anything but the class you compete in. So, sure you may have won five (5) matches against your friend, but when you're in the championships, you will see the experience difference of the actual trainer against the kid who cheated.
Like I said, this is why I would need the full support of staff for this to work. A dedicated group of 2-4 people can run the entire sub-forum consisting of reports of losses and wins, and disputes. If that happens, we can build on the progress, and allow more and more options to come our way.
It's better than just saying "Hey he's got level 100 pokemon so he's quite strong." Now you can say, im in A class or whatever...
Having a certain levelled pokemon is not a good way to determine battling strength. I might be the crappiest player in the game, but if my friends gives me a Level 100 Caterpie then I'm suddenly ranked with the best? No. That's just silly.
True, and I guess we will see what the prizes are and if they are funded from other payers contributing or if its endorsed by the admins and they will create a special Pokemon as a prize for each tournament.
True again, I guess the only purpose of boosting would be to increase your ranking on the forums.
Yea, and if you could convince the right people to make this happen you could start a new forum and have a few trusted people be moderators of that forum only. Then you could have a Ranked Players topic pinned and every time a battle summary is posted to a subforum the mods can update the pinned thread.
It could happen. And in fact I'd like to see it happen. ^_^
Cash prizes would be funded by a livestream that matches would be broadcasted on. Special pokemon would be great. Like a Pikachu that knows surf or fly? :)
Ranking on the forums would mean nothing in the long run once more people get into tournaments.
I hope a staff member sees this and messages me about it. I have counters for most issues.
Sounds pretty cool, but after this big tournament everyone should get set back to F-Class so they can move back up the ladder. This is pretty common in most games using a ranking system and keeps high ranking players from getting bored with the fact that they simply can't progress any further. Of course this depends completely on the time between the ladder reset and the final tournament, but still.
