fredrichnietze
ok so this guide was horrible im re writing it from scratch. how to catch snorlax ok so there are several good strategy's. false swipe. the importance of having this can not be overstated. false swipe is a move that always leaves your target pokemon with 1hp or more. what this means is you will never accidentally kill snorlax. good pokemon for this are scyther/scizor, farfetched, cubone/marrowak, breloom, fearow, and parasect. easily available to you the beginner is farfetched and cubone. another useful strategy is lowering snorlax's att. useful available moves are feather dance(pidgey), and growl (everything). another useful trick is skill swap/insomnia or vital spirit. skill swap is easily bought cheap in trade chat or found on route 12. when a pokemon with insombia/vital spirit uses skill swap with snorlax it is unable to rest making it much easier to capture. probably the best pokemon for this is hypno. pokeballs. there is no alternative to dozens of them. status conditions. if you skill swap then use thunder wave if you dont then use hypnosis/spore/sleep powder/lovely kiss, ect... if your using strategy 2 you'll want to start turn one. after that use strategy 2(if you have it) then 5 then 1. important things to consider is crits. every attack you make has a 6.25% chance of critical hit which drastically increases damage. this is a good way to kill snorlax if you dont use false swipe. for this reason it's highly suggested you only use false swipe. if you are having trouble doing damage you can use moves like sword dance and howl to increase att or tail whip, leer, screech to decrease defense. it's recommended you have pokes lvl 35 or higher before you try. also if you fail to catch snorlax dont immediately go for the second. continue the storyline and come back later with bulkyer pokes and better strategy. good luck Link to comment
Atuan
This isn't much of a guide. It's also written poorly. Is this for your first run? Because there are better ways to go about doing it, if so. Kupokun 1 Link to comment
Vanceypants
Snorlax tends to use rest quite often, so this method would take forever, and the false swiper might run out of pp. I would suggest paralyzing snorlax, maybe put it to sleep. If you put it to sleep watch out for sleep talk Link to comment
ph03nixwing
umm... I agreed with marowak false swipe, but it'll be useless if you don't make him sleep, he'll just keep regenerating. it's much easier if you have any ghost pokemon to make a stand for it, I'd prefer gastly with a hypnosis. he cannot attack you because all of his attacks are normal, and just hypnosis him and change to marowak to false swipe him till hp 1, if you're lucky he'll be sleeping for 4 - 5 turns, that's enough time for you to put him to 1 HP and catch him, I only used 3 or 4 pokeballs with this method, I never bought any great balls or ultra balls. besides, he's lvl 30, he cannot sleep talk, the only problem is his rest and snore if you ask me. and I'm sure your lvl 39 marowak (lvl 39 he got his false swipe) can take as much damage as snorlax can. snore is sp.att based and basically snorlax doesn't got plenty of it. and if you have gastly to stand there, he can't even lay a finger. it's not a direct method, but it's the safest. don't complain for being complicated, it's waay easier than taking down a freakin mewtwo for god sake. hope this helps, basically I used this method for almost all legendaries in every pokemon series, and it worked beautifully. and only pokeballs used. Because there are better ways to go about doing it, if so. can you give examples of how this can be better? and while there "MAY" be better methods this is the best for noobs so they dont kill it and the easiest for them to do. Snorlax tends to use rest quite often, so this method would take forever, and the false swiper might run out of pp. I would suggest paralyzing snorlax, maybe put it to sleep. If you put it to sleep watch out for sleep talk and after 2-4 false swipe at the lvl i recommend using, snorlac is at 1hp and false swipe has 40pp. also rest heals paralyze and you can false swipe while hes sleeping. also only has 10pp so hes more likely to run out of rest way before you run out of false swipe. Kelarr
only has 10pp so hes more likely to run out of rest way before you run out of false swipe. wild pokemon don't have pp it's going to rest you forever lel Link to comment
fovean
I'd recommend using an Onix to screech Snorlax down to minimum def, thereby maximizing the chance of false-swiping it down to 1hp while it's still resting. Featherdance/growl can also come in handy if you want to keep your swiper alive and not use too many revives. Link to comment

Mmmmmmmmmmmm no. Snore is not special attacked based. Also the whole training a cubone to lv 39 without going pass the snorlax is quite tedious. And I'd be surprised if anyone who actually needed this would read this by the time they face snorlax. I know I didn't have a forums account when I first ran through the game Dannnno 1 Link to comment

GG. most noobs don't have friends who have a smeargle with false swipe snore at low enough lvl that it obeys them, cubones however are easily found in the poke tower and can be found in the wild at lvl 46 in ilse 7 so are much easier for noobs to acquire Mmmmmmmmmmmm no. LedZeppelin
How about Taunt + False swipe ? Link to comment
Sakura
Most noobs don't even know the forums exist, so I'm not sure this guide is helping anyone. Most of the forum population have already fought the snorlaxes. I would suggest adding a section for people who want to catch the snorlaxes on their alts, which involves using the masterball, going to saffron to buy ultra balls. I just have 1 small request. Please tidy up the OP. it currently looks like an unappealing chunk of text, and the lack of capital letters annoys my inner grammar Nazi Link to comment

fredrichnietze
How about Taunt + False swipe ? no pokemon learn taunt naturally that you can catch at that point and most of the pokemon that can learn it (like absol and sharkpedo) are too expensive for a noob to trade for. also because the tm taunt is unrenewable it's a waste to use it for a "one time event" like snorlax instead of saving it for pokemon you'll use later in the game. Dannnno
Well.. You could always do my method, Put it to sleep then use Dream eater. Or Poison then Leech seed. both awful methods >.> dream eater is special, won't do shit to snorlax. And hypnosis has crap accuracy poison + leech seed will probably kill it before you catch it (although it'll let you know if immunity) Kupokun 1 Link to comment

Sammier
Best method for rookies: Get a gastly, because wild snorlax cant hit you. Lower snorlax's HP with night shade (also no crit chance) Hypnosis it when low. Throw great balls. Easy as stealing leftovers from snorlax. Kupokun 1 Link to comment
