Welcome to the General Thread of PSL Lab First Edition hosted by @Artemis4.

What is a "PSL"(Pokémon Super League)? It is a competitive Pokemmo event, which consists of team battles to define who is the best. Players will be auction-selected by one of eight managers of the season and integrate a team that will aim to win the PSL Lab crown. Once the teams are formed, the competition begins.

There are two phases to the event: the regular season and the playoffs. Based on their performance during the regular round-robin season, each team will head into the playoff’s single elimination bracket with some advantages or disadvantages.

Each week, managers will submit a tier-based lineup of players that will face an opposing team’s lineup. The PSL Lab First Edition tiers are: OU1, OU2, UU, NU, Dubs, LC, Manager Choice 1 (OU, UU, NU, Dubs, LC, UT) & Manager Choice 2 (OU, UU, NU, Dubs, LC, UT). Managers & co-managers will be allowed to play, but in exchange for weekly currency.

Remember, this event is fully sponsored by @ProfesorEinsteinnn.

Bolded terms are detailed below:

Players join the PSL by signing up in the “#inscripciones-lab-only-chat” and will be selected by a manager during the auction. The manager select which tiers his/her players will compete in, but a manager can't force his/her players to compete in a tier he/she didn't sign up for and a player is also not allowed to play in a tier he/she didn't sign up for. Every LAB player who registers will be able to play. When you join the PSL Lab, you are agreeing to play for any manager that selects you in the draft and that you are committed to playing throughout the entirety of the season. You will also follow the rules provided and will respect the decisions made by the host.

About Invited Players:

Spoiler

A “Invited” player signs up for the PSL to compete in duels and represent his/her team on a weekly basis in order to win the grand prize at the end of the season. Players join the PSL with an invitation made by the small council and will be selected by a manager during the auction. The manager select which tiers his/her players will compete in, but a manager can't force his/her players to compete in a tier he/she didn't sign up for and a player is also not allowed to play in a tier he/she didn't sign up for. Every invited player who registers will be able to play. When you join the PSL Lab, you are agreeing to play for any manager that selects you in the draft and that you are committed to playing throughout the entirety of the season. You will also follow the rules provided and will respect the decisions made by the host.

All players who have been expelled or resign from the PSL-LAB Lose all rights to receive prizes or honorable mentions during this event.

About Auction:

Spoiler

The PSL Lab Preseason Auction will be held over Discord (PSL Lab Official Discord) in a public channel. Only managers and the hosts will be allowed voice and typing capabilities. All others present will be muted and act only as spectators. The draft will occur after Player Sign-ups are completed. The time will be decided by all managers and the host in order for full participation.

  • The order of the auction will be announced at the beginning of the auction.
  • Managers will be provided with 300 credits each
  • Once a manager is called, they will have 2 minutes to select a player from the draft list
  • A manager may open the bid at 5 credits (minimum) or state a higher opening bid at the time of selection
  • Once a player is selected, other managers can bid on that player by manually typing their bid
  • A minimum outbid of 1 credit is mandatory, for instance a bid of 4 credits can be outbid by a 5 credits bid
  • Once a bid has been active without any other outbids for 10 seconds, that player will be awarded to the manager's team with the highest bid
  • This will be repeated in subsequent order as indicated at the beginning of the auction
  • Manager's must draft a 13 players on their teams.
  • A manager must keep a minimum number of credits to fill their roster. Credits will be tracked by the host, but please help out as this can get messy with a live auction
  • A manager's credits will be carried into the season. Each week, a manager will have the possibility to put himself in the lineup or put one of his/her players twice in the lineup for a cost of 3 credits (co-manager = 2 credits), that will be awarded to the opposing manager at the end of that week.
  • Remember, each manager must have a minimum of 4 lab members in his team.

No player can be drafted and purposefully benched. This is not respectful nor conducive to the PSL. In the event a drafted player is unwilling or incapable of playing, the manager will be able to release that player and replace him/her with someone that wasn't drafted yet.

About Managers:

Spoiler

Managers are responsible for leading their teams on and off the field. They are responsible for drafting their teams, setting weekly rosters, ensuring their team follows the rules and communicating team information with the host. Players who wished to be considered for the eight manager positions have signed up in the “#postulacion-manager-psl-only-lab”. As managers will be allowed to play the eight managers selected by the host will be chosen based on skill and competitive achievements. If the manager is at one point or another too busy to manage, he/she can select one of his/her player or ask a friend to take over his duties temporarily.

About Competition:

Spoiler

You will respect your teammates and above all you will respect your manager. If you got drafted by a manager you don't like or want you will have to put these feelings aside. Signing up is like signing a contract, and these are conditions you have to accept. Disobeying your PSL duties will result in being banned from PSL. At any point of time the host can give you a warning or a restriction based on your behaviour. Trying to purposely evade matches, or not trying to get your match done for example can result in penalties. It’s impossible for the host to plan for every situation, its possible something will arise that won’t fall within the bounds of the rules. It is important to remember the final decision lies with the host.

About Regular Season:

Spoiler

Seven week round robin, each team will play every other team once. A team will receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.

About Play-Offs:

Spoiler

All teams will be automatically qualified for playoffs. However, based on their performance during the regular season, some teams will be advantaged and other disadvantaged. In round 1 of the single elimination bracket, the best teams of the regular season will face the worst teams of the regular season:

Team #1 vs Team #8

Team #2 vs Team #7

Team #3 vs Team #6

Team #4 vs Team #5

There are 8 duels per face-off during regular season. During playoffs, there are only 7 duels per face-off to avoid tie breakers. There will be only one manager choice per week during playoffs and the highest ranked team during regular season will be making that choice.

Furthermore, for the first week of playoffs, out of the 7 playoffs duels:

  • Team #8 will have to forfeit 3 duels against Team #1
  • Team #7 will have to forfeit 2 duels to Team #2
  • Team #6 will have to forfeit 1 duel to Team #3

About Line Up:

Spoiler

Each week, managers must submit a lineup composed of players of their team that will represent them against another team in each of the official PokeMMO tiers. The manager may put himself in the lineup or put one of his/her player twice in the lineup in exchange for 3 credits (2 in co-manager case, 5 if twice) that will be given to the opposing manager.

The manager has the possibility to add to his/her lineup submission 3 availability windows of his/her players. By doing so and by respecting the availability windows, the host and small council will never reach an activity decision against that player. In the event a player doesn't provide any availability windows during lineup submission and another player does, if there is a scheduling impass, the player that did not provide availability windows at the start of the week will be automatically subbed out.

In the event a duel doesn't get played, an extension should be granted only if the extension duel gets scheduled before the week is over. During the extension, if the duel doesn't happen, the team that made themselves more available will receive the activity win.

Remember, each line up must include a minimum of 2 lab players (managers lab members will not count as a lab player)

About Schedule & Rules:

Spoiler

Once the week begins, players will have seventy-two (72) hours to schedule the date of their match. Opponents can be contacted by a Discord DM or by Pokemmo by whisper or mail.

Managers are responsible for the availability of their players and must be responsible for them in the event that there is no communication between them.

It is very important that when scheduling the players they communicate clearly. Especially when you agree on a date, it should be scheduled with the most convenient local time zone for you, but it must be identified in GMT/UTC in #scheduled-matches channel.

If any of the players does not show up at the agreed time, it is necessary to show some proof that the affected player did agree on a date to the host to take the following measures:

- Ask the manager of the absentee for a substitute on the agreed date

- If no one from the opposing team can fight, the activity win is granted to the affected

- If neither of the two players agreed, both managers will be asked for a substitute

- If both managers cannot send a substitute, the fight is annulled and neither team receives points from said fight, in addition to receiving a fine for the manager

- The fights can be postponed but not thirty (30) minutes before the start of the duels

- All duels must be played in Kanto, Route 4, Pokemon Center, Channel 4.

- All the combats will be valid as long as they are supervised by the Host, a small-Council, they are recorded or seen by a captain who has no affinity for either of the two players.

- All Matches will be bo3 (best of three)

- In all fights players must play in "Do Not Disturb" mode (Type /dnd + enter in the game chat)

- You must make sure to take and place Your Screenshot that you won your match in win-screenshot channel in case any inconvenience happens.

- In case of disconnection, the affected player loses the combat. Unless:

- The player has disconnected in the first turn and both parties agree to resume combat. In this situation both players must use the same equipment, if there is any suspicion of malicious disconnection. The player and the manager will be cautioned

- In case there is a dispute or inconvenience not mentioned, the host will be in charge of resolving said inconvenience.

- In each Team there must be 4 LAB players and each week there must be 2 LAB players in the line-up.

About Warnings:

Spoiler

Anyone who wants to break the rules will be penalized, from a warning to an expulsion from the PSL according to the offense.

The following practices are prohibited:

- "Coaching" (Help from third parties during combat. For example, friends advising you what to do during the duel)

- "Ghosting" (Let another player play for you)

About Code of Conduct:

Spoiler

Respect towards other players must prevail, we know what the wild spirit of the PSL is like. So insults, mockery, teasing and other 30 minutes before the duel to 30 minutes after the duel will be allowed. In order to avoid hatred and resentment, any player who does not comply or shows signs of not complying with this rule will receive a warning.

About Ban List:

xd, I didn't know that you had to ask for permission to use the term "psl" xd

I do not understand your position, yes, you are right, it is possible that the people who organized it have never participated as a host of a PSL, but that does not prevent them from seeing how other people have carried it out and from learning how, in theory , an event like this should be organized, so don't limit their learning capacity. The fact that one has ended and another is already starting, how does it harm the community? It is rather comforting that there are those who want to do long events like a PSL so that the players are entertained and have a time where they can compete against players that you never thought you would meet, much less have a duel. That you say to use another name is completely stupid, in all the editions they have said that PSL is a long-term event where there is a regular season and the playoffs, how does PSL LAB differ from other PSLs, that you do not host it you or someone you love and respect, because the format i see is the one they have always applied, also, don't say "don't use our language" this is a concept created for the community, and if the community wants to make use of I don't see the problem with him, unless you have registered somewhere the term "PSL" as an idea of yours, and we have to respect your copyright.

I feel you don't need to participate in an event to host something similar, you do need the experience yes (most likely from watching/observing how decisions were made), but most importantly good communication, leadership and decision making skills are needed to ensure the event runs smoothly.

There is also the small council involved, and although I haven't participated in PSL myself, there are others who have had the experience or even played and they will always be there to help the host.

Regarding 'PSL Lab', there was Lava PSL, Past PSL and Zero PSL which all followed the same format like this one will, which is basically a league (regular season and then play offs). It's a terminology competitive players here understand and the hosts are not claiming the level is high as the original PSL.

Generally there has been a lot of interest in this including from many who have just recently played this year's PSL and nobody has complained about the name - if you're concerned however (my assumption the usage of 'S' in PSL), feel free to suggest some alternative ones for the host to consider.

i think there is some misunderstanding here. if i take a photo it s copywrited to me the second i click that button. registering it gives me additional protections and the ability to sue for more $. if a person or persons create psl they have copy write with or without registering if it is copywrite protectable (it is) and if they give permissions to a person/s to use that name thats fine but if they dont the right to control copying exist and belongs to the rights holder.

its not community owned ip unless its explicitly made so by the rights holder/s.

heres a FAQ https://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html#what

Quote

When is my work protected?

Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is perceptible either directly or with the aid of a machine or device.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?

No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

Why should I register my work if copyright protection is automatic?

Registration is recommended for a number of reasons. Many choose to register their works because they wish to have the facts of their copyright on the public record and have a certificate of registration. Registered works may be eligible for statutory damages and attorney's fees in successful litigation. Finally, if registration occurs within five years of publication, it is considered prima facie evidence in a court of law. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration” and Circular 38b, Highlights of Copyright Amendments Contained in the Uruguay Round Agreements Act (URAA), on non-U.S. works.

you can argue all day elements of the psl are not protectable under scenes a faire but the name itself is open and shut case.

tl;dr is yes using psl without permission is in the wrong legally speaking no gray area but its a pokemon game who the fuck is going to sue over this? regardless dont be a uguu just because its not worth suing over and you can probably "get away with it" legally speaking

and you used the word we this is aimed at whoever is running this idk and idc

PSL Lab First Edition players auction will be held Sunday, March 6th 2022 at 7 PM GMT on the PSL Lab Official Discord Server and can be followed on the PSL Lab Spreadsheet. Managers can choose this co-manager to a draft for them in case they might be late or unable to attend the auction.

Each manager will start the auction with 300 credits and bid their credits on players to create their roster. At their turn, managers will have to nominate a player for an amount equal or superior to the minimum starting bid. The minimum starting bid is 5 credits and outbids are in 1 credit increments. If no one outbids after 10 seconds, the manager with the highest bid wins the nominated player. Managers are required to sign 13 players (4 of these must be LAB members). The nomination order has been predetermined.

Round 1

Spoiler

1.- Pablobacas

2.- lLatios

3.- xJoseee

4.- Mendeez

5.- XSofiaQwQXx

6.- Facursa

7.- zBondrewd

8.- GabrielAZ

Round 2

Spoiler

1.- GabrielAZ

2.- zBondrewd

3.- Facursa

4.- XSofiaQwQXx

5.- Mendeez

6.- xJoseee

7.- lLatios

8.- Pablobacas

Odd number rounds will have the same order as round 1 and even number rounds will have the same order as round 2.

If after completing their roster a manager has remaining credits, those will be used throughout the Regular Season and the Playoffs. Each week, managers will have the possibility to spend 3 credits for an advantage. The advantage can be a) the manager can put himself or co-manager in the lineup or b) the manager can put one of his players twice in the lineup. The manager against who an advantage is used will receive 3 credits. Only one advantage can be used per week.

I can understand your displeasure with the use of the term "PSL", however that term has been used several times by the community in the past (PSL Zero, PSL Pást, etc), and I don't think there should be an exception for Lab when trying to make their own PSL format.

I'm still looking for reasons to understand this part of your comment, if you don't like that I have been commissioned to host a 300 million event because I have never participated in the official format, you can complain directly to the sponsor of the tournament. I have been attentive to the development of the official PSL in order to understand the rules and how to carry out one, I repeat, if this bothers you, you can complain to ProfesorEinstein.

I hope to see you in the development of the next Official PSL, maybe you'll find me there, greetings.

I get JJ's initial reaction. But it's a team event making it distinct from the larger community PSL, self-funded.
Using the name PSL is just useful as a shortcut to everyone understanding what kind of event it is (no matter what kind of language they speak) thereby understanding the rules etc.
Credit was given for the walls of text, got no problem with it.

Psl itself is just a cheap knockoff now anyway so if every random person that can raise 300m of worthless fake money wants to use the name for some reason then whatever. Not really sure why it needs the psl name though? How would it change anything if it was named Pokemmo Labs or something?

I agree mad respect to someone for throwing 300m to the community and all but here are my concerns:

Firstly, PSL is an open forum based event that is dedicated to the whole of the PokeMMO community, thus "PokeMMO." This event appears to have had sign-ups in a private discord server which is against the values of PSL.

Second, past hosts of PSL have their own discord server and the tradition has been to contact someone who has hosted before to use the name or carry on the tradition of hosting a PSL. This was not done.

Outside of that, I have no objection and the community can do as they please. It's simply a respect thing, an inclusion thing, and a "don't burn out the PSL" thing. We hope to host a real PSL every year or so to keep the hype alive. Whenever we have this knock off events, community excitement dies down. Now I've said my peace, good luck.
