Event Suggestions & Feedback

Strych

Question

As you all know, we enjoy running events. We try to come up with as many new and exciting ideas for them as we can, whilst also attempting to cater to our broad player-base.

Have we run a particular event that you'd like to see again? Perhaps one that you didn't like so much?
Do you have an idea for an event that you'd like to see happen? We're interested in your feedback and ideas, so feel free to post them in this thread.

Please keep ideas within the realm of possibility. I realise "if X is implemented, Y could be a great event", but lets try to work with what we have.

Note: This thread is for the discussion of official events (like those posted in PokeMMO Official Events).

All of us on staff completely understand that more has been given out in the past, choice of Pokemon you own made shiny, but we acknowledge that doing so was a mistake and nothing of that nature will ever occur again.

Would you care to elaborate on that bold part? I really don't get why staff would think that, I feel like those kind of prizes are what made the seasonals have that "special" feeling, the OU seasonal going right now is a complete disappointment, I've seen better prizes being handed in 128 man OU tourneys. Staff basically turned a good thing it had going on into a joke.

It was way too much. The prize was essentially (in my opinion as I do not recall the whole rationale behind the choice anymore) used as a drawing point to bring players, who had left for various reasons and qualified for those events, back to the game. The old Masters format was drawn out over the course of an entire year. This meant that those who qualified early on had to wait at least 11 months before getting any kind of payoff for it. Having to wait 11 months for the finale during a time when the gameplay was much less engaging that it is now meant those players were the most likely to have disappeared. Given the shorter format of the seasonals, having a prize that valuable is way too much for the time investment.

Edit:

One thing I missed and was brought to my attention is that we almost always have a seasonal going currently. At the time there were only 3 different Masters events, Master of 50s/Master of Doubles/Master of 100s, with one culminating Master of Masters.

Too much for the time investment? So in your head you just think all it takes to win a seasonal is 3 months? I mean yeah putting it that way, it does look too easy.

But what about waiting a full year for that said seasonal to happen (You know, since not everyone plays every tier there is available, for example a person who only focus in UU has to wait until every summer to play the UU seasonal), what about the time/money it takes to get into competitive battling (breeding, training, movesetting, learning mechanics/playstyles, etc)?

There is more to complain about official tournaments tbh, most players' opinions are that the money reward is too small, 1M only covers the cost of making max 2-3 comps (Unless you're looking for really shitty ones which won't help you win anything) AND you get that same amount of money for winning a catching event which is literally almost free to enter (Just a big fuck you to comp players if you ask me). However, the shiny gift prizes are there to make up for it, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't (I still remember that NU official for a Swalot, what a waste of time lol).

My point is, that the amount of effort it takes to win a seasonal is way bigger than what you think it is, there are 4 seasonals a year so it's not like you will be seeing hundreds of players holding a shiny comp Charizard like, ever. So now explain to me again pls, how the prizes were too much.

You are looking at it from the wrong perspective. What we have today is not the same as what was available during the Masters series. Back then all shiny prizes were tradeable and the ones given out were highly desired at the time. Our past indiscretions with the value of shiny prizes being given out is partly, if not mostly, to blame for the large crash in the shiny market. That is why it was a mistake.

While your chosen tier may not be in a seasonal cycle currently, there are still multiple tournaments each month outside of seasonal events. While there are improvements to be seen in ensuring adequate tier representation for each month, the odds are far greater that there is a tournament in your tier running at least once per month outside of the seasonal events.

Just because all shiny prizes are now gifts, that does not mean that we are free to just hand out any shiny we want and not expect there to be adverse effects later on. If we were to hand out 100 gift Shiny Totodile then the overall value of Shiny Totodile will still drop because 100 less people want that shiny now. This also means that it is less rare as well because there are 100 more Shiny Totodile on the server. Over time the special nature of Shiny Pokemon drops more because more players have them.

That's kinda my point tho... nobody is asking you to hand out 100 totodiles, just 1 for each year would be enough, only way it sums up to 100 totodiles in this game over time is if this game lasts 100 years. Anyways I feel like I'm wasting my time here, you guys do you I guess.

So these leader board tournaments need to be better. The most recent two events didnt even fill up 16 slots, its blatantly obvious that very few people are interested in grinding on ranked to get a chance to play when the prizes are so terrible. For whats meant to be an exclusive tournament these prizes are pathetic and in no way motivate anyone to play ranked and get enough points to participate.

Would be nice to have some tournaments being held in different time zones, to allow people who have work routine schedules to be able to participate in some tournaments after work, similar to CC's.

@TheChampionMike something in between 6pm CDT and midnight ( 11pm - 5am GMT ) would be really nice to have, I mean it sucks to not be able to participate in anything other than 1 or 2 CC's per week..

Im not against doing a tournament here and there on that timezone if more people would love tournaments to be around this time specifically

Currently, we have a tournament system that rewards the top four finishers (64-man) or top 8 finishers (128-man). The total cash prize pool is 2M for 64-man and 3M for 128-man, with first winning the illustrious Comp Gift Shiny. I would like to suggest an alteration to the yen aspect of these tournaments. Considering how heavily RNG can affect a single match, players are often eliminated from round to round because of this. Players that play exceptionally in the first 3 rounds, could be eliminated in the 4th by RNG without a single prize.

With this in mind, I would like to ask the following: cash be rewarded for each round you win.

For example, if the total tournament prize pool is 2M for a 64-man tournament, each round can reward you with cash.

  • 1st Round Win: 25k (32 players; 800,000)
  • 2nd Round Win: 25k (16 players; 400,000)
  • 3rd Round Win: 50k (8 players; 400,000)
  • 4th Round Win: 100k (4 players; 400,000)
  • Championship: Shiny Prize

The only con I see with this is that it seems like such a small amount of money for the tournament winner, since the maximal amount of yen a player could win is 200k, rather than the traditional 1M for 1st place. This is definitely a socialist approach, but it might attract more players if they are guaranteed to be rewarded for immediate wins rather than suffering a massive loss in the 4th round and earning nothing, wasting both their time and effort. We might also consider increasing the total prize money since the yen isn't going to just four players anymore, if that is something that fits Kyu and Desu's model of our economy.

In my eyes, it would be optimal to see the following for a 64-man tournament using my model:

  • 1st Round Win: 25k (32 players; 800k)
  • 2nd Round Win: 25k (16 players; 400k)
  • 3rd Round Win: 50k (8 players; 400k)
  • 4th Round Win: 100k (4 players; 400k)
  • 5th Round Win: 250k (2 players; 500k)
  • Championship Win: Shiny Prize + 500k (1 player; 500k)
    • Total: 3M
    • Thus the following:
      • A player eliminated in the first round would earn 0
      • A player eliminated in the second round would earn 25k
      • A player eliminated in the third round would earn 50k
      • A player eliminated in the fourth round would earn 100k
      • A player eliminated in the fifth round would earn 200k
      • A player eliminated in the sixth round would earn 450k
      • The tournament winner would earn 950k + Shiny prize

Okay catching tournament prize gl

Haha I guess I should've been more specific. Although if you make Shiny Chansey as the prize for a catching event, I can imagine it being one of the most frustrating events since it's one of the hardest and most annoying pokemon to catch too.

FRUSTRATING CATCHING CONTEST YOU SAY????????????????????

Catching Contest where you have to Generate Shedinjas.

+Attack -Anything other than speed = Nature bonus

We need an excuse to generate good Shedinja's, with Gen 5 coming they will be more usable and at current getting a comp one is... *ahem*, anyway, Yea I want this event so I have an excuse to grind out Shedinjas.

Reward? idk, I would ask NOT for a shiny shedinja otherwise I would likely cry if I failed to win it.

For the event you'd likely have to permit a longer duration of time as levelling Nincada's isn't the easiest in the world, maybe a day-wide event? who knows.

I like Shedinja.
