Event Suggestions & Feedback

Strych

Question

As you all know, we enjoy running events. We try to come up with as many new and exciting ideas for them as we can, whilst also attempting to cater to our broad player-base.

Have we run a particular event that you'd like to see again? Perhaps one that you didn't like so much?
Do you have an idea for an event that you'd like to see happen? We're interested in your feedback and ideas, so feel free to post them in this thread.

Please keep ideas within the realm of possibility. I realise "if X is implemented, Y could be a great event", but lets try to work with what we have.

Note: This thread is for the discussion of official events (like those posted in PokeMMO Official Events).

I really liked the 64 man tourney yesterday. I don't know exactly how it went by so quickly (may be cuz of zebra getting dq, important lesson to take here Noad :P ) , but I'd be open to having one 64 man tourney per week. The past two tournaments I registered a bit early and I didn't get in and this time when I registered, I got in at the 40th position. Assuming that this wouldn't have been a 32 man tourney, it would've been frustrating to not get in.

Thanks for hosting it Noad.

Back again for more opinions o/

So my monthly Oceanic Tournament, what are your thoughts on trying out some other tiers/formats other than just OU? I ran a UU one once but I only just filled up my bracket, however I have noticed that the Oceanic has grown in popularity since then. I noticed interest in a tag team format, providing we could get 16 couples I am not against running this in the future. We could maybe do one partner doing OU and the other doing UU. Just some things to think about I guess. I would love to hear from those who participate in this tournament.

Tag UU would be cool.

Also what time are these hosted for you ?

Tag Team UU would be epic. So far we've had tag team OU and NU but no UU, so please make it happen Noad :)

Well I was referring to having Tag Team as a possible format for an Oceanic in the future. However, this is nice idea too- I think it was Kyzukun who asked me for this before but then the split happened and the tiers were reset. I think if this were to happen we could wait a little bit for UU to balance a little bit and let others have a chance to build a team they are confident in using. It makes for more interesting battles that way ;)

EDIT: @Archi- Usually Oceanics start at 10 or 11am for me (depending on time changes).

Yeah I meant for Oceanic as well since the last 3 Oceanics have all been OU, a different tier/format would be nice for a change.

I really like the concept of a tag team where one partner does OU and the other does UU. Not sure how you'd handle the tiebreaker match, though...maybe a coinflip, and the winner chooses tier?

That signature is hypnotising...

Anyway, I had a think about this tonight and came up with the following- If partner 1 wins their OU match first but partner 2 loses their UU match after then perhaps partner 1 will then have a UU battle for the tie breaker. This would work visa versa if the UU match was won first.

However, a potential con of this would be that some players specialise in OU and others UU. There could be some pretty amazing partnerships based off of this and forcing the OU player to battle UU may nerf this significantly.

A couple weeks after Hoenn is out and people start to get some new pokemon, how about a Magma vs Aqua tourney. Divide into two groups, Team Magma and Team Aqua. Magma are only allowed to use pokemon found in ruby version and aqua are only allowed to use pokemon found in saphire. I haven't thought too much into this clearly so more ideas for it pls.

Also uniform required

so doubles talk.

there has been one official doubles tourney to date since update/this year

https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/50678-pokemmo-doubles-sunday-15th-february/

and yes there is a second one in a few weeks

https://forums.pokemmo.eu/index.php?/topic/52547-pokemmo-doubles-friday-17th-april/

however if doubles is to be the 3rd "thing" for team tourney and a official format there are going to have to be more doubles tournaments. at the rate of 1 every other month, how will anyone find doubles players for pokemon super league season 3? how are new people suppose to learn what to expect from Team Tournament? ofc im biased as "the doubles guy" but does that mean im wrong?

also +1 to noad for hosting all of the doubles tourneys this year + majority of the rest of them.

TL;DR there needs to be more doubles tourneys if it's going to come back as the third tier.

heya so first off congratulations. the competitive community is getting bigger so you guys must be doing something right. however with a larger community comes a larger number of people trying to sign up for events. now their are all shorts of way to try to run larger tournaments or set it up so everyone gets in a small number of times, but the simplest and most effective way would just be hiring new staff to help run events. i know this idea isnt popular in staff, but it's really the only way to run larger tournaments to keep up with the larger number of players streaming in since hoen. without the comp scene many people will quit and no one wants that.

we could also go back to the old registration method - IE: register a few days before events

this might seem counterproductive, but at least it would reduce the animosity from those who narrowly don't make it into tournaments after devoting their entire night to it. Could this still happen w/the other system? yeah, sure, but at least expectations would be tempered - you'd go into the night of the tourney knowing that ur just a reserve and may not make it on. But with the current system, at 4:49 I have 3 hours of my night cleared for the tourney, and by 4:50:05 I'm 2nd reserve and have no chance of playing

Another idea, credit to Kragore, is to provide some sort of compensation for the first 5-10 reserves - something like, guarunteed entry into the next similar-tiered tournament. This wouldnt ALWAYS work, but for something like the spring qualifier I think this would work perfectly
