My Kanto Nuzlocke

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone !

I am doing a Nuzlocke in kanto and the beginning has been really hard, even before Brock, I started with a Bulbasaur, got a Rattata on r1, a Mankey on r22, a Pidgey in r2 and a Weedle in Viridian forest.

I trained my team so they are all level 12 at least, went to the 1st gym to fight the trainer and he has one shot my Beedrill with a crit, the first death and I was sad since it was my only evolved pokemon.

So I trained until my bulby evolve and beat the 1st gym, on route 3 I got a rattata (an other ) with horrible stats but in Mt. Moon I was lucky and got a Geodude with pretty good IVs.

I bought the Magikarp, and it was worth it because Gyarados has crushed Misty, on route 24 I got a caterpie and on r25 another pidgey.

Before daycare a Mewoth and on r6 another pidgey (damn I am not lucky).

In Vermillion I caught another Magikarp (just in case Gyarados dies) but it has bad IVs and nature, hopefully I got a pretty decent one in the water just before the SS Anne.
My geodude died to Gary's Raticate (did'nt expect water gun...) in SS Anne, so I went on r11 and caught a Sandshrew and got a Diglett but it died just after against a Hiker on east of Cerulean. There I caught a Ekans, and before rock tunnel a Spearow and in the rock tunnel I got a second Geodude.

Lt. Surge was surprisingly easy, thanks to sleep powder (bulby is definetely the best starter for Nuzlocke) but he killed my Meowth, and after rock tunnel was not so bad (repels and potions all the way).

Finally I was lucky and got a Kadabra on r7 (with 149 IV, 31 in at but whatever) and picked the Evee in Celadon (no casino pokemon then no dragonite for this game) and got a Bellsprout on r8. I am gonna wait for 4st badge since my team is not optimal for it.

Sadly I lost my Sandslash (was my most leveled pokemon) against Giovanni at the Rocket Casino. I got a crit by Kangaskan.

Now Sandslash has joined the other in the dead box, my alive box is still pretty good and I have an Ekans in the daycare. The Nuzlocke challenge is still getting more and more easy since I now have a lot of money for buying potions/heals and good EVs thanks to the grinding (Sandslash was already 155 EV).

After Sandslash died fighting Giovanni at the casino Rocket, I went to fight Gary in Lavender, the fight went well, except his Gyarados that was surprisingly tanky, but I won without losing anyone.
I caught a low IV Gastly but at least it's not a Zubat or a Cubone. I was a little surprised by how the levels of trainer's pokemons suddenly increased, a channeler killed my Ivysaur with an unexpected psychic and another channeler killed my Gyarados with an unexpected thunder.
They were my strongest pokemons, and just after loosing Sandslash I felt like the difficulty was increasing again.
I went to train my Kadabra, Gastly and my 2nd Magikarp then Gyarados by fighting a LOT of magikarps and digletts in Vermillion because in pokemmo Nuzlocke speed is very important.
Then I went back to the pokemon tower and finished it beeing very careful and also trained a little the EV of Kadabra and Gastly.

I then went to caught the two Snorlax (was really easier than I remembered) went to the cycling road and caught a Grimer (no 2nd Evee for this game then) and after I went to Safari and got a Nidoran female, I then realize that in order to have the multi exp I need 50 different pokemon in my pokedex.

I really wanted to get the exp. share to level faster and especially for the EV training, so I caught everything I could and evolved my pokemons :
I got a Slugma on r18, a Krabby on r13, a Nidorina on r15, and a Goldeen in Fuschia, and a Shellder on south of Fuschia (r19 I think) and I went to Viridian to caught a Poliwagg .
I evolved my Nidorina in Nidoqueen, put my Ekans and then my Spearow at the daycare, evolved my Krabby, my Poliwagg my Bellsprout my Pidgeotto and my Goldeen,
and then I trade Graveler, Kadabra and my Haunter and finally I reached 50 pokemons in the pokedex.
In the process I lost Arbok and Nidoqueen refighting trainers.
After I trained my Weepinbell until level 32 so I can have Sweet Scent.
I mainly EV trained my Gyarados, and a little Alakazam and Gengar.

I finally decided to go fight Erika and get my 4th Badge.
And it was pretty hard,  I started with Fearow (was my fastest pokemon and knew fly)
but it was killed by Vileplume on a crit Venoshock...
Then I discovered the power of Grimer! I used Minimize until my evasiveness was at its maximum (using a lot of potions)
and then used Mud bomb to lower the other team accuracy. But I ran out of PP
and had a hard time with the sleep powder spamming.
I switched to Slugma but it died on one Ancient Power.
I finished the work with Raticate, thanks to its speed it was pretty easy since all 3 pokemons left were low HP and low accuracy.

The gym leaders are still hard and I will have to be carefull with the next Gym : Koga.
Which I need to be able to use Surf and catch more pokemons and to continue my adventure.

I battled all the trainers between Lavender and Fuschia city found a Noctowl with pretty good stats on r14,
Then I went into Fuschia's Gym but fighting the trainers I understood I was a little underleved for Koga.
I went to Saffron to fight the karatekas in the Dojo (I am not taking the pokemon I think Lapras is better) and that was pretty easy since fighting type sucks.

Then I did about an half of Silph Sarl (I don't feel ready for Gary) and when I was around lvl 36-40 I went back to Koga's Gym.

His Crobat wasn't so hard I took it with my Pidgeot then Switching to Golem.
Koga then sent his Venomoth and I got surprised by its Giga-Drain and my Golem died.
I finished with Gengar since Weezing and Muk have both Dark type attacks and Curse Body unactivate the attacks.
Using a lot of potions (because Koga does it too) and spamming Psychics gave me the win.

Golem was a sad loss but it would have been usefull only against Blaine and I have good water pokemons.

I went to the power plant and got a pikachu, was hoping for an electabuzz or a magnemite but still better than voltorb... Was nice that he had a light ball a least.

I then went to r21 on the grass south of palet town and caught a Tangela that I evolved.

At the Cinnabar Mansion I failed to catch a Weezing because he used destruction.

And on r20 I got a Chinchou.

I went back to Saffron, to finish the Silph co. and get the useless masterball and the Lapras, I was afraid of Rival Fivel (his Leafeon mainly) but at the end everything went way better than expected :
My Snorlax, my Lanturn and my Pidgeot were the only ones I needed, (Gyarados, Gengar and Alakazam are surprinsingly useless). Snorlax with Surf destroyed Charizard, Lanturn took care of his Gyarados, his Alakazam and his Pidgeot, and my Pidgeot easily finished his Leafeaon.

I then went for Giovanni, and Snorlax was enough for his whole team! (With few potions) I didn't expect Snorlax to be so useful for a Nuzlocke, but yeah, HP and Def are the best for Kanto! If there are Nuzlocker here, I highly recommend it and also Lanturn!

Saffron is now free from the team rocket and can celebrate a beautiful Christmas!

I did the Cinnabar Mansion without trouble, and the trainers before Blaine were no match for my Gyarados. But Blaine, he was quite a challenge!

I one shot his Slugma with Gyarados, but just after his Arcanine killed it. I didn't remember his Arcanine has an electric attack...

My Lanturn finished his Arcanine and his Rapidash (with solar beam) thanks to a max potion, for his Magmar I had to switch first to Snorlax, then to Gengar and Blaine used a max potion too. I sent my Pidgeot but Magmar had a crit Fire Blast and Pidgeot was left with only 2 HP and...a burn.

Alakazam finished the work, but it's not a happy victory. I have lost two pokemons, Pidgeot was with me since route 2 and Gyarados since SS Anne. They are now in the cemetery box, and I am not sure how to replace them.
My next gym is Saffron and I was counting on Gyarados with his Crunch attack.
I am now in the Sevi Islands where I can catch new pokemons.
Maybe it's time to use Evee as a Vaporeon or a Umbreon, I would take any advices from you with pleasure!

Happy New Year to all of you, the Pokemmo Community !

best of luck,i think umbreon slowpoke or second snorlax are your best options for now.

i've done a few nuzlockes and i can say you are doing very well so far, this game isn't easy.

hardest part is yet to come though, level caps arent generous on elite 4 so be very prepared for it. build a team specifically for the elite 4 from scratch.

i took it on twice, once with and once without items, survived with 2 pokemon on the items one and lost in the itemless.
