Locally-hosted Servers

Bazzinioli

Question

While I do like playing on the main server, I do think it would be really cool if we were able to create locally-hosted ones of our own, ala Baldur's Gate or more recently MineCraft/Terraria.

Locally-hosted as in, people are connecting directly to your computer (likely using your IP to join), and if your computer/game is off, it will shut down and no one will be able to join unless you start it back up.
I'm sure hosting your own locally may be too resource intensive or laggy for some, but for those of us that could handle it, I think it would be cool for a few potential reasons:

1. You could have private play sessions with friends or other small groups of people
2. You could customize the experience in ways that aren't really suitable for the main server (I.E. turning on all Legendaries, disabling weather/nighttime, turn off the need for badges, cheat in money or other items, etc.)

3. People with programming knowledge could make mods for said play (theoretically)

Of course, to avoid cheating, characters created in these locally-hosted servers could only be used in these locally-hosted servers, and couldn't be used on the main server or any other one.

PokéMMO is definitely the best online Pokémon experience I've had, but I'm not always in the mood for the "massive" part, so this would be a pretty good solution for me and others who would like something similar, I believe.

Edit:

Ack, I'm sorry, somehow I completely missed Rule 3 on the suggestion rules...

Third rule is stupid, same as this game, you could easily spam your way up to 10 posts, useless rule.

Anyway, this suggestion is a bit unnecesary.

  1. I guess this could be fixed with the suggestion of hiding other players (which a lot of people seem to disagree), I totally agree.
  2. Uck, cheaters... Better do something else instead of playing a broken version of a game (go for Minecraft, is perfect for you...)
  3. People with programming knowledge could make a better game instead of making mods for this... (The problem is legally using Pokemon, I'm still surprised this game got so far, I still can't believe that they use the resources from the ROMS neither which means that if we ever get new Pokemon, every Pokemon will be 3D due to new GEN ROMS, which also means that the game will require more than 1-2GB to be played)

Anyway, they wont give you the original server files because it means that every player could easily know how the game communicates from the Client to the Server (and vice versa) which easies hacking, in order to avoid that, they should make a brand new server for private servers which is a waste of time, we need to wait more than 1 year for nice updates, imagine if they had to do something unrelated to the main game, just don't...
