[Guide] How to Search

Why Search?
If you were sent to this post, you must read this.

To ask a question:

The forums are a wonderful tool for quickly getting an answer for a specific question. If that question has not been fielded or if your question is a derivative of an existing asked question, then you can get very quick answers from the PokeMMO community.

If your question has already been answered, then searching will help you find that question quickly! The reason why this is so quick, is because instead of typing your question then hitting 'Send' (then waiting for a response), you could easily just hit "Search" and find your answer near instantly.

If your question has not already been answered, then searching will allow you the ability to confirm this. Without searching, you must assume that you have a unique question, whereas (statistically) you most likely do not. Most likely if you were linked to this post, your question was already answered and you did not take the time to search for it.

If your question is specifically about Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, or ANY other Nintendo Pokemon game, then your question can be best answered on a different website (Google will teach you everything you could possibly want to know about any of these games).

Before making a suggestion:
For 'Suggestions', one should always check to make sure your suggestion has not already been submitted and reviewed by the community/developers.

How do I Search?
There are two major ways:

Google Search (Preferred Method):

 1. Go To:https://www.google.c...ums.pokemmo.eu (or just search "site:forums.pokemmo.eu")

 2. After ariving at google, to the right of the existing text in the search bar, add a space and type what it is you are trying to look up, then hit the 'search' (magnifying glass).

 3. You will then be displayed all of the posts on that subject on the PokeMMO Forums.

Forums Search (Not Advised):

At the top Right, when you are logged on and accessing the forums, you will see a search bar, you can type 'words' into it,... and hit a 'search' (magnifying glass) to search (advanced I know...)

In theory, this should be easy, but the search algorithm is really bad (as of this drafting).

Because of this, I recommend using the first method of Searching.

Bookmarklet:
If you frequent the forums regularly, instead of copy-and-paste'ing the above google link, you can use the following for quick access for quick google searching on the forums.
Simply add the following to a bookmark.

javascript:(function(){var p = prompt("Search on PokeMMO Forums..."); if (p!="" && p!=null) window.open("https://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=+site:forums.pokemmo.eu+"+p);})();

Excuses for not searching:
You have none! Nothing here is that hard or confusing, and you can get your answer in less than 0.3 of a second. It would be selfish and disrespectful to not search before you post; So be sure to search!

Comments and suggestions are welcome! Thanks for your time and I hope this is helpful (or obvious--- both are good :D)!

And yet nobody will. ;-;
at least now there is another thread that can be linked when someone asks a stupid question.

There should never of been a need for this thread in the first place.
There isn't.

By the time anyone has found this thread and copy and pasted the link, they could have answered the question, or steered someone towards finding the answer themselves.

In fact, just copy and pasting a link to a different thread implies that their answer can be found there and is actually being pretty damn rude and ignorant.

I am not sure I follow your logic? But I appreciate your enthusiasm! Would you care to expound on your opinion?

If the answer they want is on, say, Bulbapedia, rather than making them read your entire post then search for it, wouldn't it make more sense, in both time saving and helpfulness, to direct them to the site that they're almost definitely going to find using google anyway?

If I asked a question and somebody posted a link to a thread, it would be safe to assume that somewhere in that thread there was an answer to the question, no?

This bit I owe you an apology for, there really was no need for the tone in which it was written, I'd had a bad day and I was tired and pissed off. Although I really do think my point still stands that it may be slightly unfair to lead somebody to believe that they might find an answer somewhere.

I absolutely agree with all of this! Very well said! (maybe I missed something, but I think you and I see things much alike :D)

Perhaps, you are responding to my post of:

I am going to send people to this post if I know it is a question that has already been asked... who knows maybe it might help /shrug
And to that, I must admit, in addition to posting a link to this thread, I typically like to post 'relevant urls' along with it (typically as many as I can find on a single google search--- on average about 4). I would recomend this to anybody else too! (my hopes are that this thread is helpful to those that could benefit from using search, rather than to scold those who don't).
