We've moved on to Gen 8 movesets, but abilities are still stuck in Gen 5?? it isn't a hidden ability (that's an entirely separate debate) so I don't understand the reasoning behind omitting this.

It didn't exist until generation 6. While our move/ability compatibility is mostly in line with generation 8, we're limited to what actually existed in generation 5.

Remember it like this. 

 

Things like moves and abilities are all gen8 AS LONG AS THEY EXIST IN GEN 5. If they don't exist in gen5 then it will not be in the game.

But why have this half-hearted implementation? Either have all the moves and abilities according to Gen 5, or go with Gen 8... Currently it just feels stuck between both states, where it can neither confirm to Gen 5 nor Gen 8

 

If implementation of Gen 8 abilities and moves is too meta-shifting due to the absence of fairies or sth, why not just stick to Gen 5 all around?
