Is growlithe a good Pokémon?

Is growlithe a good Pokémon to use if I’m starting the story portion of Kanto?  

 

Also, do steel and dark type Pokémon appear in Kanto?

Growlithe is a pretty solid Pokémon and a viable option in your adventure. Just make sure to not evolve it too soon, since it won't learn any more moves if you do that.

As for Steel and Dark types, let me remind you that Kanto in PokeMMO uses the FireRed / LeafGreen version, but there's more! You can even use Pokémon from later generations such as Sinnoh and Unova on your run.
