Ghosts, Pokemon with the ability Levitate (e.g. Koffing), and Flying types are immune to Arena trap.

If you lead with a fast pokemon with one of those traits you can run from Arena Trap pokemon

Except when your doing story and have no access to those mons.

You only have to go through the Digglet Cave twice or something in the story. If you're only complaining about that specific point in the story and a place you will never have to go back to once you're done, then yeah, they won't change it.

You don't even have to go through Digglet's Cave. The only thing on the other side you may need is the HM for Flash, but you don't have to use that to get through Rock Tunnel. There's nothing required for the storyline on the other side.

yes but rock tunnel without flash is basically impossible.

You have more light to get through Rock Tunnel now than you did playing in Gen 1 without Flash. It's not impossible and it's not any more or less challenging. You simply have a smaller ring of light.

Hard to do when you barely get any money from trainers and have to spend it on pokeballs or potions for gyms.

Then stop complaining about encounters, if you're not done with the story, check the handheld version itself and see if it's any different.
