Gigalith - sure why not. CB set may be quite strong tho

Venu - coverage is strong for NU, but admittedly is slow and would have to forfeit synthesis or a STAB move on a growth sweeper set in order to have access to full coverage which may limit its potential. Always countered by golbat

Roserade - faster, stronger, access to growth, coverage with extrasensory and HP Fire will be very strong in NU

I don’t have access to calcs but:

Defensively, they are checked by cryogonal, clef(?), throh, golbat, spdef druddigon, careful braviary, spdef roselia(?), spdef altaria

Neither of them are blisteringly fast which means they are very RKable with the likes of scarf braviary, durant(lol), espeon, jynx, swellow, zard, scarf doom, scarf emboar and more. Will be interesting to see what the calcs say

+1 on Roserade; the other two might be ok.

@gbwead thoughts on rose?

Roserade will probably be a big threat, that might end up getting banned. However, since it has counters, I don't see why it would not be tested before getting potentially banned. Bronzor simply doesn't care about Roserade at all. Noctowl, Scyther, Cryogonal, Vullaby, Golbat and Metang look decent too. I think it's best to wait and see what happens this month.

rose and venu are good plants exponents for this meta, considering that espeon gallade charizard blaziken braviary swellow houndoom and scyther are usually to see, just is interesting how this new exponents could win a spot in the teams, also new walls can be seen like kangaskhan earlybird, muk/swalot/weezing or flareon.

gigalith is not a thing since to the pair vullaby+hippo is too played in nu, is a new varient so why not

Link to comment

Stoutland's looking a bit too strong in NU with Gigalith around, it packs a strong punch and has enough bulk to avoid getting killed by strong priority having an actual mon instead of hippo set up its sand for it seems like a big deal and if it proves too strong then banning it may be a bit of an issue since we may have to ban Stoutland instead of Gigalith. I'd like to hear more input regarding this change.

Honestly surprised Roserade ended in NU, it will definitely warp the meta around itself, it has everything in its toolkit to punish any would be counter with the right move, as much as I love the mon, not a fan of seeing it in NU.

Also Lifestyle already brought it up in the NU discussion thread and overall got a positive response, but now's the time to actually discuss to decide on it, thoughts on Durant everyone?

How are Cryo and Golbat checks? Cryos forced to recover, bat gets nuked unless you wanna sacrifice bulk for it to be max speed to get speed ties.

I see bronzor, but its just another sitting duck justifying roserade. I mean what is the risk of playing around a bronzor even; seeing rocks on your side of the field? What does bronzor do to rose; it simply doesnt have the stats to justify anything but psywave and its recovery is rest. Im not saying bronzor isnt viable at all, but if its one of the best answer we have to rose, maybe rose shouldnt be NU.

Out of all those "checks" you mentioned, metang is the only one that isnt weak to rocks and metang does nothing offensively either.

Owl:

252 SpA Life Orb Roserade Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Noctowl: 74-87 (35.7 - 42%) -- 78.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Vulla:
252 SpA Life Orb Roserade Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Vullaby: 62-74 (35 - 41.8%) -- 62.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Scyther:

252 SpA Life Orb Roserade Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Scyther: 78-94 (44 - 53.1%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Clef:
252 SpA Life Orb Roserade Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Clefable: 75-90 (37.1 - 44.5%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Metang, bronzor and clef are the only ones i can think of rn.

If rose really goes to NU defensive playstyles become even less viable. I dont see why anybody would run rose for anything else but offensive purposes, so how are the mentioned and standard specially defensive mons answers to that threat?

This "lets just see what happens this month" - mentality is such bs with the kind of tc we got and you know that.

Funny to see how people are concerned about stoutland with rose calcs being posted tho.

Zard, Espeon, Swellow, Doom "only" revenge kill a roserade. they usually come in when you lost a mon.

Gigalith was NU in the past and it never became a huge threat, it actually wasn't used at all from what I remember. The only reason it moved up to UU was because it was a solid answer to sun teams, which were spammed quite a lot back then, and it stopped the most common defogger from performing its job, Crobat. The biggest problem I see with Gigalith now is that sand indirectly boosts Durant's viability even further. Think about it, Durant destroys defensive teams, which has made people turn into offensive, which are now destroyed by Sand Rush Stoutland. Gigalith sets up sand for Stoutland and resists Durant's only weakness, fire. Gigalith+Stoutland+Durant in theory sounds annoying as hell to deal with, but I think if we remove Durant from the equation, then it should be ok.

tl;dr - Ban Durant

Venusaur was NU once too and much like Gigalith it was never a threat either. I feel it has a tough time performing whatever role it wants to because of the way NU works with all the fire/psychic/flying spam and *cough* Durant *cough* combined with Venusaur's average speed and bulk. I actually have no idea how this thing moved up to UU and how it stayed there for so long, I swear I have never watched a UU match with a Venusaur in it, who the hell was running this? It will also be completely outclassed by Roserade tbh.

tl;dr - Ban Durant

I'm kind of on the fence with Roserade. NU already has a tough time as is dealing with hazard spam and Roserade only makes things worse. Life Orb Spiker sounds like a pain in the ass since Golbat gets 2hko'd by Extrasensory (or go to zzzzz land with Sleep powder) and Toise / Whimsicott get murdered by one of its STAB moves. Calm Altaria might deal with it decently, but that mon is kinda trash. Since it shares its typing with Venusaur though it might struggle as well against the same fire/psychic/flying spam and some other stuff on the physical side, in which it's much frailer than Venusaur. I'm usually pro testing, so I think Roserade should get a shot at least.

All I have to say:

Nice checks, nice sleep resist, and nice joke. Thank you:)

Why does sleep resist matter? They’d both be dropping coverage and/or setup/recovery to have it in their moveset
