Clarifying Level Caps Across Multiple Regions

I know what happened when I hit the level limit of the badge in one region. You simply stop leveling and then it all happens at once.

 

What happens when you go to a new region and then hit the level cap leveling up in that region?

 

I already have 8 badges in Kanto and I am getting close to the level cap in Hoenn after 4 badges.

 

Do the pokemon suddenly become unusable like when you bring over over leveled pokemon over? Do they simply stop leveling?

 

If you go from 4 badge Hoenn back over to 8 badge Kanto, do they suddenly level up and then become unusable?

 

Don't want to mess up and make the whole team unusable in Hoenn

Simple if a pokemon is over your lvl cap it will kill itself right away if you try throwing it out you can move pokemon between regions has much has you want but their lvl will just keep getting higher to more you use them like normal. If a pokemon has strored exp from a region where you have a lvl cap it will lvl up at its first use in any region where your lvl cap allows it.

So, if I say, get the fourth badge, 38 level cap in Hoenn and then never leave Hoenn... will the pokemon still be usable in Hoenn and simply stop leveling up? Or will he level to 39 and start killing himself?

Has long has you don't use it outside the region it won't overlevel. Once it reaches the level cap it will store the exp and not lvl up past the current cap in the region you are in.
