  1. good job you picked some of the worst options available to you
  2. If you want to keep everything in the metagame by nerfting them, the meta will stay the same just more balanced. For example, if chomp comes back without yache or without sd, it will still be front and center in the metagame just like before. The degree of change will be much smaller if you choose not to remove anything. Unless of course you kill certain pokemon with nerfs like wobbufett, but at that point why even nerf it and not just ban it.
  3. It also convolutes the game for new players and leaves the metagame stagnant and stale.
  4. bronzor and other recycle juice mons are easier to kill than mienfoo, that thing is absurdly resilient
  5. IGN: Lotus Reason: I've been playing PSL for the past 4 psls. Every team I'm in I've practically played a co-manager role, supporting the team with building and giving advice on decision making. I've got a lot of experience and knowledge of every tier (besides dubs) and can offer team building help and good practice. I'm also aware of the current playerbase and can gauge skill level well. Primarily when I manage, I want to raise the (low) standard as far as drafting a team goes, and then outgrind the competition. Other random stuff: I will smash Luke.
  6. Still think having an assistant manager is a good idea ala many of the smogon premier leagues. Would help with the type of situation that happened in the past with managers that quit midseason. Don't even have to make having one mandatory so it wont draw away from the player pool.
  7. Well that's why it's been unstable. There were many drops in march and april due to sinnoh dropping, nothing in the following 2 months, and only 2 changes for nu in july. I suppose you would expect instability following big updates, I think the tier will be more stable with the regular cycle. Edit: Additionally, having a min elo for usage stats to count could make it a bit more stable. Many lower elo players are using many suboptimal mons that affect tiering. It would also make the stats more useful to look at.
  8. Tiering will continue to be usage based following a usage cycle of 3 months with 1.7% to move down, 6.7% to move up for the first 2, and with a cut-off point of 4.36% in the third month of a cycle. Changes will be made to the three tiers every month depending on if Pokemon fall below or above the cut-off point. Since July was the end of the last cycle, these changes shouldn't be made until next month right?
  9. There really should be a min elo for usage stats to count, or if there already is it should be higher.
  10. I believe you can see usage for tournament, mm, and combined in the matchmaking signup box if you click on a particular pokemon. Can't see a full list tho.
  11. My point was you can't nullify all bad matchups with good teambuilding, which it seemed you were implying, perhaps i misunderstood there. I have to disagree here. It is more fair for a skilled builder to have an advantage over a less skilled builder. You are acting as if it's as easy as grabbing some mons and counter teaming, when in reality it is a skill in itself to be able to identify what will be good and build around that. There is probably some merit to this. I suppose there are more than one reason tournaments are more highly regarded. I do think the skill in teambuilding for tournaments is a factor, though. One final thing, I just don't know where this sentiment is coming from that we should be making tournaments more fair for players with less resources. Why shouldn't someone with a box full of comps have an advantage over someone with 6 mons? To me, that seems totally counter intuitive to the progression of an mmo.
  12. This is just not how the game works. When you are building you take into account the most prevalent threats in a metagame, but there are far too many and particular teamstyles are always going to have weaknesses. For example, your HO builds are usually going to be weak to rain and other speed boosters. Your balance builds are going to be weak to wallbreakers, bc you cant counter them all. Your stall builds are going to be weak to stallbreakers that you are unable to cover. I see many people making the argument along the lines of "Counterteaming is bad, so good". There will still be bad matchups, except it will be random when you face it. It is the same problem that matchmaking has and why tournaments are held in higher regard than mm. It does not matter what team you use when you play matchmaking, you are going to run into bad matchups and theres nothing you can do, you can't prepare for everything. Some games will be lost to matchup. In tournaments, players have more control of the matchups they face. The better players can mitigate bad matchups by not bringing particular mons/playstyles vs particular players, and be more consistent than worse players. Why would we not want to control for this factor instead of making it random? For the people say that there is little skill in counter teaming, that is absolute nonsense. Go watch psl games where people bring dogshit counter builds and get destroyed by just another sound team. Not many players are able to both know what will be strong against their opponent and how to build a solid team that doesnt have a bad matchup if the opponent brings something different. You have to have knowledge of the metagame, knowledge of your opponents playstyle/range of builds, and how to build a proper team. The skill is not easy, and you guys are greatly overestimating the playerbase if you think any considerable portion of players here are good at this.
  13. I know the lc tournament scene has been quite inactive lately, but the doubles pool just is not strong enough. In doubles there seems to be very few good players at the top, then a huge dropoff in skill after like the top 5 or 6. While in lc, there is a more fleshed out pool of players. Additionally, OU/UU/NU is much more translateable to LC than to dubs, so we see many more players from higher tiers that can play lc as a secondary, which makes it far easier to account for in drafting. Perhaps neither should be manager's picks, but dubs certainly shouldn't be a managers pick. About showdown tiers, the player pool for psl becomes thinner and thinner of top level players every season. Generally, the pool of showdown players are players that aren't going to be playing MMO tiers anyway, with a couple exceptions. Therefore, adding a showdown tier just adds more depth to the lineup while not taking away from the rest of the lineup. Overall, having a showdown tier, specifically dpp, is a positive to the player pool.
  14. They have to pay the amount that they went for in the last psl they played in order to play, similar to what other pls do on smogon.
  15. I like that there is voting for this, nice job. What is going to be done for managers playing the week. Can they play, not play, have to buy themselves in order to play maybe?
  16. A Pokémon is uber if, in common battle conditions, it can consistently set up a situation in which it makes it substantially easier for other pokemon to sweep. Knocking off eviolites from opposing walls makes them much more frail and gives sweepers an easier time. Also, mien can often slow uturn on whatever is in front of it bc there are very few things that ohko it, giving sweepers a safe opening. Mien’s stupid bulk and regenerator allow for many opportunities for it to come in making it absurdly consistent, often netting momentum or crippling a wall multiple times a game. Even after a wilo or getting poisoned from tspike it’s still doing what it pretty much wants to. Even when the opponent has a sticky hold user miens bulk makes spamming uturn quite easy, making it hard to deal with. There is yamask, but it’s worn easily and isn’t really contributing enough to warrant an entire slot to imo. All of that aside, i don’t really see an issue with banning pory if it become too overwhelming after mien goes. I don’t see any pokemon that will become too much of an issue if it goes resulting in further chain banning, unless i’m missing something?
