One of the things I have particularly excited for is the introduction to Mega Evolution, If infact the developers plan on going that far even. However, although most mega evolution pokemon exist in generation 3, (generation 3 consist of all pokemon implemented prior to its release, so generation 2 pokemon are included in generation 3), mega evolution just can't happen until generation 5 pokemon at least are implemented. Mega evolutions would just to be overpowered compared to all other pokemon by far. In the generation prior to generation 4, more useful moves and abilities were introduced. Using Absol as an example, In generation 3, Absol was pretty useless competitively. Not having access to good STAB moves and coverage really lagged Absol behind. But when generation 4 was introduced, it gained access to Night Slash, as well as very good coverage moves such as Psycho Cut, and Sucker Punch. (a priority move that only succeeds if the opponent uses an attack) Not only the moves, but an extra ability was added as well. Super Luck permanently increases Critical hit ratio by 1 stage. Combine that Night Slash and Psycho Cut, both moves having a high critical hit ratio to, and give Absol a Scope Lens or a Razor Claw. Now absol will almost always hit critical hits, only in gen 4 - gen 5. (The way critical hits work changed in generation 6, and is what you see in PokeMMO despite being a generation 3 knockoff.) But all of this changes if mega evolutions were to be implemented before generation 5. (Since over the generations, base stat total gradually became higher and higher.) If the developers implement mega's before hand, things would be insanely unbalanced. Mega Mawile for example, gains 100 more points in its base defense, like all mega's, and its base attack changes from 85 to 105. This might not seem like much, but it is its ability that makes it an Uber tier pokemon according to Smogons standards. Upon mega evolving in battle, it gains the ability Huge Power. This ability doubles the attack stat of a pokemon. So basicly, Mega Mawile's base attack is actually 210. This stat is crazy compared to PokeMMO standards. The only thing holding Mega Mawile back from destroying the Pokemon VGC, is its terrible speed stat. Being base 50, but with a base defense of 125, it can still survive hits quite well, which is why i am bringing this up. Even though a lot of people want mega evolutions, it would essentially break the competitive side of PokeMMO. The game is just not ready for megas yet, and even if they did implement them, the developers would very likely nerf a lot of stats and abilities that make mega pokemon what they are.
So in conclusion, don't expect the developers to implement mega evolutions any time soon. We here on PokeMMO are not ready for it. Anyways, thanks for reading,
Happy gaming! :3
