So.. say I have a female squirtle and a male magikarp or whatever and breed them, I'll get the squirtle, right? just an example.

I'm new to the egg group thing and apparently we can cross breed pokemon of two different species? If I'm to breed two different pokemon, how do I know what pokemon I will get back in return? I've looked on every guide and googled it, and I can't figure it out.

Also, I don't know many hoenn pokemon, being an oldschool gamer, so I am mainly breeding Kanto pokemon.

Think of each tier as a format. In each format there is a list of Pokemon that are not allowed to be used in it.

To illustrate this look at it this way.

Ubers is any Pokemon is useable but any Pokemon listed as Uber may not be used in any other tier.

In essence each tier functions as a restricted list for what is not available in certain tournaments.
