Heyo, people of Pokemmo! My name is Morzon, and I am a nuzlocker. Finding the base game too easy, and not having very much of the patience to do IV / EV training required to play at the competitive level, I find the most enjoyment in playing the Hard Mode way. After spending a few hours in game getting started on my run and getting to know some of you in game, I was encouraged to keep a chronicle, a journal if you will, of my (mis)adventures here on the Pokemmo forums, so here it is! But Morzon, what is Nuzlocke?
Good question. The Nuzlocke Challenge, or Pokemon Hard Mode, was started by a webcomic writer by the same name who wanted to add a unique challenge to his Pokemon playthrough. He came up with two simple rules.
1. If your Pokemon faints, it is considered dead and must be released / never used again.
2. You may ONLY capture the first Pokemon that you encounter in each zone - if one fails to capture this Pokemon, or accidentally causes it to faint, they forfeit their capture for that route.
And with that, the Nuzlocke Challenge was born. Many have tried - some have succeeded, but most have failed. And now, I will share my latest attempt with this community.
For my particular run, I've added a few extra rules that I like to go by, mostly for my own enjoyment:
3. All captured Pokemon must be given a nickname.
4. The "first Pokemon per area" rule officially starts after I obtain the first Pokeballs.
5. No duplicates clause: if the first Pokemon encountered in a zone is of the same evolutionary line as a already owned Pokemon, I must skip it, even if the original has already fainted. This is to promote team diversity and to prevent getting "yet another Zigzagoon!"
6. Shiny Clause: Hard Mode rules regarding capture are suspended if a shiny pokemon is encountered - I will not pass one up. However, if it was not the first Pokemon found in the zone, the Shiny will be permanently boxed and not be counted as a part of the run.
7. As a fun alternative to releasing all of my mons, if a Pokemon on my team is fainted, I will allow a player to claim him/her for free, provided that you are willing to come find me in-game. If a fainted mon is not claimed within three days of his fainting, I will release it. Claims are first come, first serve and I reserve the right to choose who receives which Pokemon.
8. Since this is an MMO, there will be player interactions. If a player wishes to battle with me they may ask, however I will not count party faints against other players towards my run, nor will I let my team end any else's Nuzlocke run, in the unlikely event I actually win. Those matches would only be for fun.
