"So, how is it different from a regular emulator?"
That's what I asked myself when I first saw PokeMMO. The answer was obvious: the community, right? I would be playing Pokemon alongside a bunch of other people. That would be what made the experience different and worthwhile, what set it apart from normal solo play.
Well, I was absolutely right. The community is what set it apart.
I've got about 19 hours of gameplay, and so far, I've witnessed:
- massive homophobia
- widespread racism
- endless spam
- trade spam where it shouldn't be
- lenny faces filling the screen
- people harassing others
- extremely lewd content not suitable for kids
- so much more
Sure, there have been a few bright spots, but they are horrifyingly overwhelmed by the absolutely horrendous chat. With very few exceptions, the community isn't the draw, it's the problem. Combine that with the conspicuous absence of chat moderators of any kind, and it's painfully obvious that this is not the right game for me.
It's a shame. My Nuzlocke was going fairly well, too.
Enjoy the game for what it is. I'm out.
