Yeah, I don't think is logical to have a hatched baby traded for a new egg. You had your egg, why would daycare give you a new one? Wouldn't really understand how it would be a working system, because to what boundary would be able to go until we can't trade it back anymore? When can we put other parents in? Right now, as the system is, we can't get our parents back and I don't think we will for months, so based on keeping that into the system, I feel like it would make it way more complex and even when it gets implemented, it would take quite long to get it without it being bugged since there has to be some kind of rule to it when it comes to hatched eggs. Thats why I suggested having the old man assume what gender it is, before he actually gives it to you. This way we dont have to wait and pray (and rage afterwards) until the egg has hatched, we could still keep the parents being traded away, if thats what the devs want us to agree with, it literally doesn't change anything more than knowing what gender it is beforehand and having the time we wait for our egg to reset whenever we press "no". That's where the difference is between your solution and mine.

Since getting the egg is time based, I was thinking, maybe we could be able to have the egg "out of the way", than once it has been bred and we got the dialogue to accept it, but reject the egg, the old man could keep the egg. But instead of your parents going rip immediately, you get the opportunity to keep getting an egg until you have one you find worth accepting. If we could combine such system along with the old man "hinting" what gender egg it's probably going to be, you'll be in more control over the gender but not as direct as having it as an open option to choose and it could still take some time.
