  1. And like I told you earlier, it is not necessary that Relaxed Skarm with 0 speed IV will always Roost first because in practice Conks run speed to outspeed Hippowdon and to speed creep other opposing Conks. 31 IV Speed Hippowdon speed ties with Relaxed Skarm with 0 speed IV, so if Conkeldurr wants to outspeed Hippo, it will always outspeed Relaxed Skarm. If outspeeding Hippo isn't enough, players may also run speed evs to outspeed opposing Flame Orb Conks, so most players will invest a minimum of 20 speed EVs so as to kill 2 birds with one stone.
  2. People run a bit of speed on Conk to try and outspeed Hippowdon, so it's very likely that you won't face 0 speed Conk from the better crop of players. Players may also run speed evs on their own Conk to speed creep other conks. If you're that paranoid about outspeeding Conk then you can run a normal Skarm with macho brace, and probably counter to finish off Conk since it won't be taking RH damage. Also you calc'd for level 100, when you should be calc'ing for level 50, and the stat difference in those cases 2 points.
  3. The NikhilR tech that you can use with Skarm is to use Relaxed nature with 0 speed iv so that you end up roosting after the drain punch.
  4. I support a buffed knock off if it would mean getting rid of Conk.
  5. Z-Crystals came out one gen after the Knock Off buff, but mega stones existed in the same gen that the knock off buff was introduced.

Oh props to your mom then. That rice just brought back memories haha, so that's why I asked.

    The Food Thread

Did you make that or order it from outside? It looks very Indian, but I can also see it being a dish from Latin America.
  8. Guys, my Mamo / Hydreigon / Garchomp / Dragonite / Gengar / Reuniclus team lost to SD Scizor. It's not my fault that I wasn't prepared the second-most used pokemon in the metagame. This mon alone brought shame to the entire metagame but more importantly to me and my team. Can we ban Scizor too?
  9. Memeing about Scarf Kingdra in no way addresses Julian's and Life's point as to why that match is a poor example to justify Chomp's ban. If I link a replay to you guys of losing 2 mons to a 0 SpA invested Togekiss, can we get that banned too?
  10. Thank you, gbwead, for being one of the few members of the council who actively participates in discussions. It sucks that we are in a position where we should feel grateful to have elicited a response from a council member, and if things stay the way they are, the future of this game looks bleak from a competitive perspective. I've only seen gbwead and kiwi give their viewpoint in this thread. I think Blue said something in the Hydreigon thread; I could be overlooking some posts from other members of the council, but it would be nice to know what the remaining viewpoints of the other council members are and why it is that they feel this way. There is hardly any transparency with regards to the functioning of the council, and so it is hard to call someone out on an uninformed stance.
  11. The Conk in that poster looks like the creature from "It".
  12. An ideal meta is one where both playstyles are viable, that is one that lies between the spectrum, not at the end. If people complained about stall, it's because it was at the one end of the spectrum. Now the meta is at the opposite end where offense is the better option. We're just trying to get to the middle, and I'm okay with complaining if it gets us there.

    Quick Wishlist

Provide the option to choose how many ev-reducing berries I would like to use on my pokemon. For example, if I need to use 25 of one of those berries on one pokemon, I need to currently repeat the process 25 times. Being able to input the number of berries to be used and thereby have the evs reduced in one go is time-saving.

Let my egg hatch while spectating a battle because right now the timer for it to hatch seems to stop when I'm spectating a game.
  15. I can't chat during battle. Is this intentional? Can't whisper or talk in normal.
  16. I would actually prefer if they made it 2x31 and 4x29 like how it is being offered as CC prizes. This implementation would in no way make CC's less desirable because CCs have a monetary reward in addition to the comp prize + require lesser number of wins to obtain such prizes. These current comps are not useful for PvP.
  17. Yes, and that literally applies to everyone. If your teams are well-balanced or well-thought of, then that means you've accounted for all of the metagame threats. If someone is able to look at your teams and say, "Hey, wouldn't this person's team be weak to X set on Y pokemon?" then that means that they currently don't have that pokemon to beat you during the tournament because it currently doesn't exist in the metagame. This means you can possibly win in this current tournament, but maybe not future tournaments. After the tour, this "c-teamer" will go breed X set on Y pokemon, build a team around it, and then use it in officials (and mostly against you). That is one way in which the metagame advances, which is a good thing! And as a response to this, you will then modify your current teams to account for this new threat. If a player does happen to currently have a pokemon that can beat your well-balanced teams, then that means you have failed to account for this this pokemon. Creating new teams, modifying current teams to adapt to the metagame should not be treated as a punishment. It's how the game grows. Look at almost any pokemon generation like DPP, that is over a decade old, and only recently people have discovered what a menace Clefable is. DPP teams that were once good in 2008 are probably not that good now. You cannot possibly expect a metagame where the only work a player has to do is build 2-3 teams and then they're done for, because no, that's not how competitive pokemon works. This isn't a penalty but an unavoidable consequence of the game we play. Outside of counter teambuilding, can you mention a few other areas where we ignore meaningful skills? It's not just about investing time/grind over skill, but it is about how smartly you invest your time into this game. If you spend your time in this game constantly thinking of new techs, then that's a smart investment in this time, and that should be rewarded. People who play more don't always win more, look at how NORE won the most previous TT while being dead. I agree, but skill alone isn't enough, because luck plays a huge role. Matchups / RNG heavily influence the outcome of the game. But just because they heavily influence the outcome of the game, doesn't mean that they aren't completely in your control. charizardlover6969 (aka Frags) cannot load up an OU team with Pikachu / Blastoise / Venusaur / Charizard and then complain that they are skillful but only lost because matchup. The kind of c-teaming you are talking about is what is happening in 10 min, and I agree that 10 min cteaming is inefficient. That doesn't make it uncompetitive. Being able to be decisive in 10 min regarding what team you want to use is a good thing. I could be wrong about the current system, but if I understand it correctly, you won't know who your opp is prior to the starting of the game. If that's the case, then going by your example of "taking a week to prepare for PSL opp is not uncompetitive" I could have had prebuilt teams ready for specific opps much ahead of the tournament, but if I don't know who my specific opp will be during the official, then that would defeat my effort. I don't see why the playing field on two players who decide to c-team each other would depend on the number of resources. It would only depend on how they use their limited resources. Even then, how you play the game (skill during battle) can affect the outcome of the game.
  18. That's why there is the ladder though, which caters to players with limited resources. Anything that promotes skillful play matters and should be encouraged. It's why we have clauses like ohko or sleep because it detracts from skillful play. The very fact that this is a resource-based game means that if players are choosing to play this over pokemon showdown, then they are accepting that they are or will be at a disadvantage compared to players who don't have the same amount of time to invest into this game. How is it unfair that someone who has invested more time into this game to acquire more resources will be more advantaged over the person who has invested lesser amount of time into acquiring resources? As a competitive player, I don't go into my games praying or hoping that my opponent does not have the ability to change their teams. There is no "absolute" when it comes to a player's best teams. It is relative because it is dependent on the opponent you're facing. Not necessarily true. I have played and beaten players who probably have more resources than me. Having resources is an advantage, but it is in no way conclusive on the outcome of a game. Yes, because counter teambuilding can be a skill, and so the person who is better at it should be able to win. I don't know why it's a bad thing. If both players try to HO each other, the one who is better at HO should win. If both players try to stall each other, the one who is better at stall should win.
  19. Literally this. You can build solid prebuilt teams prior to the tournament, but you still want to make sure that the team that you bring against your opponent gives you the best odds of winning. Noticing defensive holes in a team (being capable of losing to a single mon or opportunity for exploitation) is a skill. Some players will run multiple teams during a tour, and if you can find a common factor between all those teams that you can exploit, then that's a skill that should be rewarded. If I notice that my opponent's teams have been weak to a particular set of a pokemon, I can then run a prebuilt team that was built around said pokemon or incorporates said pokemon. This approach in no way stops you from building well-balanced teams; instead it encourages you to build diverse teams that incorporate different pokemon rather than running the same defensive or offensive cores throughout the tour. This kind of system is more useful for the newer players who don't have the resources to build multiple teams, but that's an issue relating to the grind of this game, which is separate from the competitive aspect of pokemon.
  20. I was recommended this anime by someone else too, and I added it to my MAL watchlist. Thanks!
  21. Almost 2 months late, but I watched it yesterday and it was a fantastic watch. Thank you for this recommendation, and if you have anymore suggestions, please pass them along.
  22. It is very easy to get to the 1500 stage of the DPP ladder. The ladder is active in the sense that people ladder, but the best players don't constantly ladder; this doesn't mean that everyone else is worse, but just that may be a notch below. Sometimes the top dpp players ladder if they want to test teams out, or you may find players who are just learning the tier but are still skillful competitive players because they may play new gens at a high level. You should only run into people who just "picked their platinum team" at the initial stage, but eventually you'll run into higher calibre players. Use the ladder as a learning opportunity. Once you have done that, you can take your skills to smogtours.psim.us and play some of the better players there. You can also join the DPP discord server and ask for games there as you'll find more experienced players (I can give you an invite link if you want).
  23. I also want to respond to Cali's point about the DPP ladder being dead, when in fact it isn't. This is a screen I just took now: Some of these battles may be on smogtours.psim.us, and you can always join that server and PM some folks to play some DPP games if you want better competition. If you say, "Well there's only 4 games in the past 30 minutes" well you should know that there are only 4 games whose replays were saved, but there could've been many more. There are also discord servers where you can request folks to play DPP games, get your teams reviewed, or any other advice really. (lmk if you want links). There are YouTube channels from top players who teach you how to play DPP. Every Thursday in showdown main you have a series of DPP-related Tours happening, of which one is DPP OU. The resources are endless, and it's way easier to pick up a showdown tier than an MMO tier, I don't think this needs to even be explained why. EDIT: Adding another pic https://i.imgur.com/u6WBxm2.png
