I can’t speak on their behalf anymore but just to give you some insight, it used to be the staff member’s decision. It’s been the policy for a while. When I was overseeing events I used to highly recommend my colleagues especially newer staff members to use our tiering system for prize distribution but the bottom line was, it’s their decision. Not every staff member has the same pvp awareness so prizes may differ from staff to staff

Imo it should be the standard to have a vague idea of what a good prize is before hosting a tournament for that tier, if not the tournaments get diluted down by bad prizes and that may stop other staff members from posting tournaments since there's already a lot posted for that specific tier.

I understand not every staff member is interested in the comp scene especially for every tier but it doesn't hurt them to ask. Previously when I was more active I've had 3 different staff members reach out to me asking me for a list of which pokemon would be suitable as doubles prizes in order to post the best possible tournaments for the player base. Nowadays with usage readily available and non shiny prizes making the potential prize pool way bigger this should never be an issue.

  2. You really don't want sleep back in doubles. Sleep is a toxic mess of a mechanic which feels annoying to both play with and against both through the amount of turns that the status lasts and the multitude of low accuracy sleep moves. Typically when the community ask for rng mechanics to be banned from competitive (RNG items, bslam lax back in the day) we are met with a resounding no from the devs, but when something like sleep is already seamlessly removed from the metagame do you really want the headache of having it added back? Spore is already a strong move and Amoonguss is already strong, re-enabling sleep clause is not needed and all it would do is open an old and rotten wound that multiple people were campaigning to be removed for years. Yes there is more counterplay against it now than when it got banned but even before that it was on the verge of being removed for a long time. Think carefully about if this is actually something that you think would make the game more fun, competitive or necessary before campaigning for a change like this.

  3. Just wanted to add some reasonings behind my decisions and who I voted for. Going to start off by saying I do not dislike any of the players who signed up as manager and if I did not include you do not take it personally. I tried to be as neutral as I could while voting on subjective matters so hopefully I wasn't too biased. My reasonings are put below in spoilers for anyone who is curious.

    Spoiler

1 Mkns - Very established and proven player and leader. Only had a chance to manage once before in the 'forgotten' season. Deserves a fair chance to manage and show what he can do.
2 Luke - Previous winner with overall good track record in the tournament. Active and very motivated player, will do his all to try and win.
3 RDL - Another experienced manager who will give his all to the event. Has managed twice in the past claiming very good regular season results both times. With this being his 3rd time managing in a row some may consider this his all or nothing final attempt to claim the title for himself.
4 K9 - Very proven manager with more experience than anyone else on the list. Has had overall good results as a manager including 2 undefeated regular seasons and the most dominant regular season result of all time, will be looking to extend that undefeated run into the playoffs this time around. Only doubts with him are about activity levels since he has been gone for a while but has became very active recently and has vowed to be committed throughout the duration of the tournament.
5 heichicoda - Would be nice to see more CN representation in PSL. He is an active comp player and can help act as a bridge between the Chinese and English/Spanish/French communities. Overall I think not only will it be fun to see him as a manager I think its a healthy and positive thing for the future of PSL.
6 Mlhawk - Really good long standing PSL player with decent results. He has only managed once before and just missed out on playoffs, given his stature in this competition I feel like he deserves another attempt sooner rather than later.
7 Enchanteur - Has had some issues in the past in regards to communication and sportsmanship in other tournaments. Even despite this his accomplishments as a player stand for themselves and simply cannot be overlooked.
8 Axellgor - I wasn't completely sure if I wanted to pick either of the A tier managers but was required to pick one of them per the selection criteria. Axellgor has had issues in the past and has burned a few bridges here and there but has came through it strong but he is a long standing player and has had some very good results at times. Will be an interesting one to watch this season for better or for worse.

Honorable mentions (in no particular order):
Wallarro - Love to see some new blood coming through, wallaro has been kicking up a storm as a player and will surely be an auto pick as a manager for next season if he keeps going like this, but for now I think he is a little bit fresh for that reason and the fact that he made his post unreadable for people with dark mode on made him miss out
Sebat - I see his situation pretty comparable to Mlhawk. Both managed one time with a fairly mediocre run, it's very possible he has learned from this experience and will come back stronger but for this season he just missed out for me. He ultimately got edged out by him having a chance to manage more recently than Mlhawk and Mlhawk having better performances as a player.
Tawla - Like the previous example, for me he was in direct competition for the final S/A spot with Axellgor. In a pretty comparable situation to Axellgor in most regards and ultimately got edged out by having overall slightly worse performances as reflected by the score.
iMat - Love Mat and he is the current leader of NORE but that doesn't overturn his previous bad spells as a manager.

I'll try to be as transparent as possible with my decisions as I can be for the duration of this PSL. Some of you may dislike me for them but hey at least you know.

  4. Pick me. I will leak the pointless drama from the idiots who don't understand how the rules work instead of leaving the community confused by decisions just for everything to be leaked 1 week later anyway.

Also there isn't an issue with having multiple people in the same team in small council since I don't even know who any of the active people in NORE are

    Spoiler

    don't vote for me

I'd suggest trying again when or if these items ever actually has a significant impact on anything, as it is now I can't even locate a quick claw in usage and the only pokemon I can find significantly using kings rock loses more than it wins.

The problem here isn't win rate and never has been. This is a game, it is supposed to be enjoyable. It is in your best interest for more people to enjoy playing this game. Not only is it incredibly frustrating to play against when they do work but when they don't work you often don't even know the opponent has them equipped, so you don't even feel good when you beat the creatures using these items and only feel bad when you lose to them. Supporting interactive, unintuitive and quite frankly cheap aspects of the game is bad game design, they don't add anything to the game other than being an annoyance and It should be in your best interests to remove them too.

If I was to play a game where I roll a dice and I win if the number lands between 1-4, am I having fun? is it a good game? Do I feel good or more skilled when I win the dice roll? This can't be a serious argument, surely.

Also how do you possibly gauge the significance of the impact that enabling sand veil has on Garchomp?

    Penalties

Penalties will work like the general warning giving to a team for unsportsman like behavior or trying to ruin the fun for other players. An example of this would be a match-fixing or standing on the spot of fighting players to make it harder to see who they are playing against. This system will run in similar rules to some sports events and will include:

-Yellow cards that will work as a warning to a team about certain behavior.
-Red cards that will result in taking away the points from general standings, disqualifications of certain players or the whole team- depending on the behavior.

We have previously discussed trying to do something fun and to make the tournament a bit more challenging for us by having multiple people line up for each tier and letting the opponent pick who they want to play against. Would this still be allowed and not result in any penalty?

I keep finding myself referring back to it, but the Call to Arms system in World of Warcraft dungeon finders is a great example of this kind of thing. Historically you could easily wait 30min for a tank, but because the Call to Arms offers bonus loot to people who queue as a tank within a certain timeframe, the average wait time (anecdotally) is at least 50% less. This system isn't directly applicable because it dynamically assesses and incentivises whichever role is the least represented at any given time, but I definitely think the concept is transferrable.

Honestly completely agree with this take. In WoW this system has made a drastic difference and is unanimously a good change and I haven't ever seen a single person complain about it. Obviously this isn't quite a 1 to 1 with mmo but it is pretty close and I can't think of a single reason for someone to want to push back on this suggestion other than trying to be a contrarian.

The issue with mm in lower tiers is that it seems to be a circular problem. If a tier loses traction towards the end of a season or for a different reason then with less people queuing it becomes more stale because you keep playing the sane players and longer queue times. This then makes people become even less likely to put their limited time and resources into these lower tiers and thus making the problem even worse and just causes everyone to default back to OU for faster queue times to get the same rewards in a fraction the time.
